Taylor Swift tickets

I realise this will be frowned upon by a lot of people but hear me out. I'm lucky enough to have been able to buy 4 very decent tickets to see Taylor Swift in August this year in London. I'm a big fan, the plan was to go with family, although the 'kids' are grown they enjoy her music and are happy to come along for the experience more than being fans.

The dilemma I have is that tickets are so rare and the tour seems to be such a phenomenon that people are willing to pay an extortionate amount for them. As a family that are struggling with cost of living and have a bit of debt, I find myself in the position on considering whether to advertise these tickets for way above what I paid for them (£190 a ticket). I have seen them advertised for as much as over £2k a ticket, and I find myself thinking if there is a parent out there that has the funds/means and motivation to want to pay £8k for these tickets, would I be an idiot for not selling them?

Why not? If people are are rich/daft enough to pay 8k for concert tickets that's not your problem. It's not like you're selling an essential item like food. Personally I wouldn't sell them because if I had them and sold them DD would never speak to me again!

sexnotgenders · 07/02/2024 10:24

Yep, OP posts deliberately goading thread, and then fucks off. It's all getting rather boring...

wallywotwot · 07/02/2024 10:28

Definitely sell them.
I'm pretty sure the TS bubble will burst soon and everyone will realise there isn't any substance there and so many other amazing female artists that should be supported instead.

TheSandHurtsMyFeelings · 07/02/2024 10:28

I would absolutely love to get my hands on TS tickets and will be stalking twickets etc once the UK dates get closer...but I still don't think you should do this!

Genuine last-minute resale because of unforeseen circumstances is one thing, selling on at vastly inflated prices to make a profit because you've overspent is quite another.

Go, enjoy it. It will be memorable.

snowlady4 · 07/02/2024 10:29

They're your tickets, you can do whatever you want with them. If I was fairly broke an had the option to turn £800 tickets to a 2hour show into £8000 and the holiday of a lifetime, I'd sell them- definitely!
Just because people are wealthy doesn't mean they're not "real fans!" If they want to pay over the odds for tickets, it's up to them really!
You could take your family on a holiday instead!

UnctuousUnicorns · 07/02/2024 10:30

Touts stink. End of.

I don't think they are though. The tour didn't sell out immediately, it took a few days as there were many VIP packages (average ticket + naff merch) for £660 and people weren't prepared to buy them at that price, all the others went, but those stuck around. I don't doubt that someone would be prepared to spend enough to make OP a profit (if she was prepared to risk unofficial resale) but I an extremely sceptical 4 x £2000 would materialise.

I agree this doesn't feel like a legit thread. I got tickets for myself and friends, and it was so incredibly competitive and hard work and stressful, not something you do if you are neutral. We are all so excited we wouldn't dream of missing it. I'm sceptical of someone going through that process, getting 4 amazing tickets, and not wanting them anymore...

I doubt her bubble will burst because unlike a lot of artists TS actually has true talent. I'm not a typical fan and I know plenty of many older people like myself who rate her enormously. Considering my favourite composer is Mahler I really do not fit the TS supporter mould but I think she is bursting with ability.

Blueskies3 · 07/02/2024 10:33

maybe well them but not for 2k each. Plus I wonder if her popularity will wane, so if so, do it sooner rather than later

blushroses6 · 07/02/2024 10:36

While I understand the temptation, ticket touts are the worst so I personally couldn’t and i’m not even a TS fan so struggle to understand the demand. The majority of true TS fans couldn’t afford 8k for 4 tickets which is sad. I had good Coldplay tickets and could no longer attend, the thought of selling them online for the astronomical prices they were reselling for was tempting but I ended up selling them to a friend for face value.

hmm, redirecting the thread slightly, but I do think her bubble could burst soon. I'm a big fan, have been for years, but she is becoming incredibly overexposed, people are getting fed-up of her, and there is more and more discussion of her questionable actions - she isn't the faultless person many fans like to paint her as. To me it's starting to feel like the public opinion is swaying like it did in 2016.

Yup. 50-year-old indie/punk fan who also sings choral music here. Bloody love TS and respect her enormous talent and ability. The 'lack of substance' arguments are simply laughable. She's a killer songwriter.

😂😂😂

Christmasusernamepending · 07/02/2024 10:42

If you sold them for what you paid for them, whoever bought them would probably sell them for the profit anyway.
If 8k is worth more to you than seeing Taylor, I'd sell.

Also, if you're struggling and in debt why did you spend £800 on Taylor swift tickets in the first place?

This. With bells on.

You've seen them advertised? Well that makes it all legit then!

These are most likely scams.
Multiple posts on my SM about people selling tickets, which you just can't do, you have to resell back to Ticketmaster.

I was also fortunate enough to get 2x£192 tickets. My daughter is beyond excited and humbly grateful. I wasn't too fussed initially, but listening to TS when my daughter has it on, I'm really getting to like her and her songs and I also now feel a frisson of excitement.

If you're really not arsed about going, sell them back to Ticketmaster and pay off some of the debt you no doubt incurred purchasing them. You'll make someone's day too, Karma is a cat.

I mean you could. But you would be a massive dick. It's basically people that do as you are considering that means that the average kid can't go see their idol sing.

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 07/02/2024 12:10

If you sell them cheap won’t the person that buys them sell them for 2k each?

WonderWoman17 · 07/02/2024 12:13

It’s not that I don’t want them, I am genuinely a huge fan and have been for years, before all the recent hype! The real likelihood is that we will go and it will be amazing I’m sure.

It just feels incredibly tempting to explore the option of selling when there are people willing and able to pay a larger amount for them. It’s like considering how much you value the experience, what is it actually worth. Like I said, I’m only voicing whether I would be an idiot to not even consider the option.

I'd sell them for sure. If you can get 8k that's a good bit of money

theoretically that shouldn't be possible. Official resale has capped prices. Unofficial resale tickets will be invalidated, therefore purchasers/sellers are in trouble. Who knows how strictly it will be policed though.

CreatingChaos · 07/02/2024 12:20

We got lucky with TS tickets this summer. I may have to sell one or two for practical reasons. I will offer them to friends and family and then transfer the ticket to them and they will pay me face value. Or I will sell them according to the Ticketmaster rules. I don’t actually know how it all works. It would not cross my mind to sell them for a profit. The idea makes me cringe.

CreatingChaos · 07/02/2024 12:22

I reckon more tickets will be resold down official channels than some people think. We booked these tickets a year ago. In fact it will be over a year before the August shows. People’s lives, relationships and plans change over a year. Not everybody who originally planned to go will be able to. You might not quite make the killing you think you will.

And come on, think of all the disappointed fans, many of them young. By selling the tickets officially at face value, you could make some young person really happy. Don’t be a dick.

I was lucky enough to secure four tickets for me, DD her friend and mother. I'm anti selling for profit but I would be lying if I said the thought hadn't crossed my mind after hearing what some people are willing to pay and imagining what I could do with it!

Some people have told me I'm mad not to take advantage but I know I couldn't actually do it as I would feel guilty. Sounds like you would too. Even in the unlikely event that DD's friend dropped out I know of others who would love the chance and would pass on at face value.
