Grandmother killed by 2 XL bullies whilst apparently separating fighting bully pups.

Longer jail sentences, minimum of 5 years for owners of dogs that kill people for not controlling them.

Aibu?

I don't think this ban is going to be sufficient. There are too many stupid, selfish owners who don't care about the safety of their families or neighbours.

Eventually the police will have to round these dogs up and have them all euthanased. It's a huge job. Vets, understandably, don't like PTS healthy animals so that leaves the police firearms units to deal with them.

It's grim. 🙁

LindorDoubleChoc · 05/02/2024 08:26

We had at least two threads on this yesterday.

PaulCostinRIP · 05/02/2024 08:28

The young boy in the house who managed to flee and yell for help, has already suffered the loss of his mother when she died and it was him who Esther (his grandmother) was visiting as they were close after the boy had lived with her for a time after her daughters death.

So now he is without his mother and his grandmother and his father probably faces jail.

I thought the photographs of the dogs owner (the father of the young boy) were a parody but it turns out they are actually serious. What an absolute 🤡

In front of her 11 year old grandson too. That poor boy Sad

In the DM it said that his mum died two years ago too, so he’s lost him mum, his grandma (mums mum) and will loose dad to jail….

I knew the ban wouldn’t stop deaths and attacks. The chavs that own them won’t follow the law.
Someone was selling XL puppies on gumtree last week, I reported it to gumtree and they do nothing. I have seen XL dogs off the lead and not muzzled in the last couple weeks. I despair.

These dogs could have been licenced with an exemption etc, there is no requirement for these owners to muzzle their XL Bullies in the home, where this killing took place.
There will be many more horrific deaths like this, due to a this very weak law.

She was screaming for 10mins according to neighbours.

There needs to be an outright ban, licencing re introduced, compulsory insurance and training as part of getting a licence.

I really don't know why successive Govts don't stand up to the dog lobby.

The owner looks like your typical XL bully owning scrote too, doesn’t he.

I couldn’t see a picture of him. Can imagine though, XL Bully owners is distinct look don’t they

TroysMammy · 05/02/2024 08:31

I wonder if the feckless owners of these dogs that attack and/or kill smoke cannabis? Would animals being in close proximity to weed become affected?

So on what grounds can you be exempt from following the law with regards to breeding and muzzling?

I am so tired of reading about this. There is absolutely no need for these dogs. What a horrible way to die.

It's pretty normal for there to be multiple MN threads on a big news story, and I think this is only the third

soupfiend · 05/02/2024 08:35

KeeeeeepDancing · 05/02/2024 07:59

From the times- who on earth hears screaming and doesn't do anything about it?

Xyz , 38, who lives in a property behind the address where the attack occurred, said she had been in the garden at the time. “It was all quiet and then we heard dogs barking, and then we heard someone screaming,” she said. “It seemed like the screaming of a child. That went on for about ten minutes. We went back in after a while because it sounded horrific.”

Areas like that always describe themselves as a 'very close knit community' as well

Did I read somewhere the poor child lost his mother 2 years ago? Now his grandmother?

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/02/2024 08:36

A 68 year old woman was told to separate fighting dogs with a broom handle? Christ on a bike!

I am increasingly coming round to the idea of seriously restricing anyone's ability to keep animals.

Blimey, he looks intelligent and reasonable, doesn't he?
The ban and/or sentencing for owning banned breeds, and owning a dog that attacks and kills need to be increased and enforced. Unbelievable that this is still happening.
Idiots like this one are not going to cooperate with the mere notion that his dogs are "not allowed"

jasflowers · 05/02/2024 08:36

No requirement under the XL Bully legislation to muzzle in the home & these dogs breed before the law came into force.

The exemption rules are sterilisation, muzzling in public & insurance, all these dogs, inc the puppies were in the house.

Of course he may not have had the paper work but that wouldn't have prevented this.

soupfiend · 05/02/2024 08:38

SidekickSylvia · 05/02/2024 08:07

Is everyone reporting un-muzzled XL Bullies if you see them? I haven't seen one for a few months, but a neighbour reported (to 101) seeing two unleashed and not muzzled while walking her dog in a remote area last week. They asked for a lot of details and said they'd send someone immediately, so it would seem to be taken seriously.

I realise this wouldn't have made any difference in this poor lady's situation, and that most attacks are in the home, but do please report if you feel it's safe to do so. It just astonishes me that anyone would think it reasonable to keep one as a pet.

I honestly dont know how that would work, by the time you get through to 101 and then go through all the questions the person will be back home more than likely, presumably you dont know where the walker lives or their name etc?

ABCDEFGHIJK123456 · 05/02/2024 08:40

I was asking if a 5 year minimum jail term for owners of dogs that kill people is unreasonable.

You don't have to read the thread of it doesn't interest you. There are hundreds of alternative threads and multiple threads on similar issues, just scroll on by.

This poor woman was advised to use a broom to separate the puppies - with the parent dogs in the same room!

WTAF?! Of course the parent dogs were going to react to a perceived threat towards their pups 😡

This^
I totally support the ban but who does this to puppies? Any parent dog would react in these circumstances. How on earth the owner could advise her this???

Troll banned

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/02/2024 08:46

Why the fuck did she buy a Doberman as a house pet? That's like getting a off road SUV as a city run around.

ABCDEFGHIJK123456 · 05/02/2024 08:46

It's interesting that none of the 8% who voted that a minimum 5 year jail term for owners of dogs that kill haven't said why. Or is it the thread police types with their 'we had a thread already, why do another', even though the question is different 🤔

Anyone who voted against minimum jail term care to offer a why these idiots who have a weapon that can kill don't deserve to have a jail term and minimum at that?

All dogs that a toddler could not beat in a fight should be put in grave. No exceptions.

Rubbish, talk about blaming the victim & puppies is a very broad term, newly born or 6 months old?

"Normal" dogs rarely turn on adults, whatever the situation & if they do, can be pulled off.
The Police had to shoot these dogs on sight, an Armed Response team sent to a dog attck....

unexpectediteminthebraggingarea · 05/02/2024 08:48

mambojambodothetango · 05/02/2024 08:02

Indeed. Those of you saying you won't understand why anyone would want them or why they haven't obeyed the law... it's an act of defiance against an 'authority' they can't even name, in the same way a lot of things are these days. They know it's wrong, they know they're dangerous, that's the appeal. To make them look hard etc.

I also know a couple of people on FB (more friends of friends) who don't fit the hard stereotype but just seem to believe that they are the world's best dog owners and owning an XL that hasn't killed anyone yet is their proof Hmm

The poster is blaming the owner (quite rightly) not the victim. Read the post

I'd apply the same rule to cars too. All killing machines

Daffodil18 · 05/02/2024 08:53

Yes I do think jail would be reasonable seeing as the breed is now banned. However I’m a little stuck in this case. The young boys mother and grandmother have now passed away. Where will he go if his father goes to jail. Such as shame for the poor boy.
