Grandmother killed by 2 XL bullies whilst apparently separating fighting bully pups.

Longer jail sentences, minimum of 5 years for owners of dogs that kill people for not controlling them.

Aibu?

Question to the 4% of voters who feel the owner of these dogs that kill shouldn't be sent down for 5 years minimum. Surely it's a lethal weapon?

What's your view then, the 4%?

From the times- who on earth hears screaming and doesn't do anything about it?

Xyz , 38, who lives in a property behind the address where the attack occurred, said she had been in the garden at the time. “It was all quiet and then we heard dogs barking, and then we heard someone screaming,” she said. “It seemed like the screaming of a child. That went on for about ten minutes. We went back in after a while because it sounded horrific.”

I did think that yes..

That ban really worked eh?

disgrace. They are so ugly I just can’t even imagine WHY you’d want one in your home anyway. There is defo a ‘type’ of person that would want one. Yuck.

There was a pity post on FB locally from a woman trying to raise money to get her XL out of the pound after it had been seized as she had “missed the deadline”. There was loads of video of her talking to this “the softest dog ever” through the bars and saying “mummy will get you back soon” etc.

The post didn’t get much traction and when looked very few had donated.

I was pleased the see dogs are being seized but sad for the dog. She had plenty of warning that she needed to take action to be able to keep it. No doubt it’ll get put down and she’ll get a cane corso next.

Schnauzersaremyheros · 05/02/2024 08:02

This poor woman was advised to use a broom to separate the puppies - with the parent dogs in the same room!

WTAF?! Of course the parent dogs were going to react to a perceived threat towards their pups 😡

LakieLady · 05/02/2024 08:03

Horrific thing to happen to that poor family, especially the little boy. He must be so traumatised.

I hope that the owner is prosecuted for manslaughter because of his negligence (and utter idiocy).

Iam4eels · 05/02/2024 08:05

The comments section on the article I read had its share of people whining about "the poor innocent dogs" being destroyed - they just mauled a pensioner to death, how are they innocent!? Lots of "blame the owner not the breed" type comments too.

Any breed can turn but when these XL breeds turn they have the potential to do far more damage than, say, a pug or a spaniel that turns and the damage they do is far more likely to be fatal. They are also next to impossible to fight off as they're built like tanks and don't give a shit. During the attack in Birmingham when one went after a little girl, bystanders were hitting it with metal bars and it wasn't fazed in the slightest.

Allicando · 05/02/2024 08:05

My colleague adopted an XL bully puppy recently claiming that it is the owners not the dog and will raise it well. She looks after her toddler granddaughter every week at home. I cannot fathom the madness that must be going on inside her brain to even take a risk I mean why would you?

People who live in places where screaming is very frequent and know from experience the police won’t come if they call them and there’s a good chance they’ll be attacked themselves if they try to do something about it?

SidekickSylvia · 05/02/2024 08:07

Is everyone reporting un-muzzled XL Bullies if you see them? I haven't seen one for a few months, but a neighbour reported (to 101) seeing two unleashed and not muzzled while walking her dog in a remote area last week. They asked for a lot of details and said they'd send someone immediately, so it would seem to be taken seriously.

I realise this wouldn't have made any difference in this poor lady's situation, and that most attacks are in the home, but do please report if you feel it's safe to do so. It just astonishes me that anyone would think it reasonable to keep one as a pet.

This. This attack happened in one of the roughest and most deprived areas of the country.

you don’t get involved there!

GaroTheMushroom · 05/02/2024 08:09

I hate all the “it’s not the breed” nonsense, yes it definitely IS the breed, some dogs are dangerous it’s as simple as that. And I agree they are extremely ugly obviously people want them for a certain reason.

The owner looks like your typical XL bully owning scrote too, doesn’t he.

He looks like Ali G

It's probably not an uncommon event in Jaywick, there's such a lot of violent crime.

My DB lives there, just a few streets away from where this happened. He rarely goes out and when he does, he gets a taxi. He won't walk anywhere. He has MH issues, so I thought he was just being paranoid, but there have been several violent crimes and robberies in the area in the last few years.

If I had the money, I'd buy him somewhere near me just to get him out of there. His MH has got so much worse since he's lived there, it's heartbreaking.

Crazy isn't it.

Some people need protection from the idiots in society who think these 'pets' are suitable.

Someone posted this on here a while back and I saved it because it shows perfectly how completely ridiculous the ‘bad owners not bad dogs’ stance is.

XL bullies (& other Pitt Bulls) and Cane Corsos are bred to fight. It’s in their genes.

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 05/02/2024 08:13

Densol57 · 05/02/2024 07:48

Absolutely disgraceful. Ive lost count of arguments Ive had with owners of staffs who call their dogs the "nanny breed" and also these manufactured monster XL dogs. They are dangerous weapons and lethal in almost everyones hands.

Staffies aren’t like XL bullies. They aren’t a banned breed either.

crumblingschools · 05/02/2024 08:13

Feel so sorry for the grandson, lost his mum 2 years ago and now his Nan has died in horrific way, and he was present.

I've never seen one IRL. I reckon 50% of the dogs where I live are some sort of poodle cross.

That said, I rather hope I never do see one, and I'm a massive dog lover and have never been frightened of a dog. I think I'd be extremely wary of one of these though.

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 05/02/2024 08:15

I knew the ban wouldn’t stop deaths and attacks. The chavs that own them won’t follow the law.
Someone was selling XL puppies on gumtree last week, I reported it to gumtree and they do nothing. I have seen XL dogs off the lead and not muzzled in the last couple weeks. I despair.

LakieLady · 05/02/2024 08:17

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 05/02/2024 08:13

Every staffie I have ever met has been an utter sweetheart, and very biddable.

I daresay it's possible to make them turn aggressive, but that really is down to the owner. These XL bullies are a different kettle of fish altogether.

ABCDEFGHIJK123456 · 05/02/2024 08:17

So the grandmother who was killed was visiting her 11 year old grandson. The 11 year old grandson lost his mother a couple of years ago and now his grandmother. All completely avoidable if some idiot didn't keep 2 XL Bullies and have a litter of puppies!

Totally avoidable

There have been a few XLs in for neutering at my work recently.

That poor boy. His mum died, he witnessed his grandmother being fatally attacked and now his father faces prison. For what? For music videos and a few hundred quid.
