Grandmother killed by 2 XL bullies whilst apparently separating fighting bully pups.

Longer jail sentences, minimum of 5 years for owners of dogs that kill people for not controlling them.

All dogs a toddler cannot beat in a fight -> the sea.

Dogs are neither essential nor endangered.

So all service dogs, then? No police dogs, no guide dogs?

These Pit apologists trying to say it ''wasn't real''..

It sounded very like what happened to my friend coming out of an urban park years ago

She had her then baby in a buggy , and her toddler walking alongside.

An English Bull Terrier barrelled out of the park and overturned the buggy with force.

Both children were bitten.
She described it as ''Wrestling with a pig'', trying to get it off her distraught children.

The dog had no collar on, or anything to grab.

It's teenaged owner came up, with a heavy chain, and was beating the dog to get it to release.

Both children have scars to this day. Even though the children are much older, the older child has a memory of the attack, and the mother and I keep a weather eye out for fighting type dogs when we are on dog walks.

The attacking dog owner was ''Banned'' from owning dogs at the time, {reason was given}

Pit /XL apologists will try to say anything to try to discredit a victim of the Pit type dog.

'Victim blaming' is strong with them.

The dog had no collar on, or anything to grab.

I've frequently noticed this as well - no collar, no harness (and probably no identifying microchip either).

Their coats are short and slippery - it is effectively "armour" - it's almost impossible to get a grip on one of these if it is moving. Many also have cropped ears - you can't even grab a lughole!

FreeZor · 09/02/2024 12:39

Because it had a person attached to it?! He would have had to go at it pretty slowly to avoid crushing the blokes leg

We were saying he should have run it over when he got back in the car and the man who was attacked had escaped, and the dog was in the road on its own.

Depends if a toddler can take them on or not.

I‘m not a dog person so dont know how true this is but i once read that you should grab both hind legs and lift them off the ground. Apparently it shocks them into letting go/stopping biting and you can drag them away.

Thementalloadisreal · 10/02/2024 18:47

God how awful for all the families affected by these dangerous dogs.

Hell!

SomeCatFromJapan · 10/02/2024 18:48

@Thementalloadisreal that's probably a really good technique for most dog breeds. XL bullies seem to keep on going even if they're shot in the head though, it's absolutely extraordinary how much damage they can take and how single-minded they remain during an attack.

SinnerBoy · 10/02/2024 18:50

This one was just up the road from me, a few years ago:

Very true, I expect. Terrifying

I've heard this too, but people who have attempted it with these dogs say it isn't effective, particularly if they have a grip on their victim. Apparently they just hang on and shake - and the wounds that can be caused by a dog of this immense power shaking a victim are dreadful.

I've never tried the method myself on any dog, but I think that getting a decent grip on an aggressive, powerful, moving animal would be quite difficult. I think the theory is that when they can't use their hind legs to balance and to push, they will let go.

Like a lot of grand ideas I've seen for separating fighting dogs it sounds like a way to get yourself badly bitten to be honest. Bully breeders use an implement called a "break stick" to prise their jaws apart, but I don't know where you'd get one, and I think you'd also need someone to help you ie hold onto a collar while you broke the grip. And I could see one of these dogs having the strength to pull someone over as they returned to the attack.

Emotionalsupportviper · 10/02/2024 18:57

I can't even imagine the callousness of someone like this.

It beggars belief!

SinnerBoy · 10/02/2024 19:02

I know, imagine if it had been a proper big dog? Actually, don't. The owners are almost all self-deluding idiots, like the knacker round the corner from you, who kept his after they ripped his arm off.

Emotionalsupportviper · 10/02/2024 19:05

I was just wondering the other day if he still has them @SinnerBoy . For quite a while afterwards he still had about 7 od the buggers that he and his idiot girlfriend used to be dragged round the streets by (I am also in the same neck of the woods.). IIRC there was a further attack but I can't recall the circumstances.

Some people are unbelievably stupid!

I think they were destroyed and he went to prison, after they attacked a woman.

Sadly this isn't 'unusual' when a person is banned...they go out and get another.
Yet another complete feckless person owns a dog that is tenacious and made to be further aggressive by the foolish owner.. she was banned at the time too, like the person who owned the English Bull terrier who attacked her children.

The woman whose photo is shown above...Words fail.

Grabbing a dog by it's hind legs..A Vet surgeon family on mumsnet had their lovely Retriever attacked and killed by an XL Bully.

The Vet is strong plays Rugby, and was incapable of getting the XL off.
It had it's back legs raised, it's testicles twisted, it was hit with wooden stakes, but it wouldn't let go of the innocent dog.

It's a grotesque dog type- very inbred, very short fuse and prone to flipping out of nowhere.

When confronted with these XL's, you realise how phenomenally strong they are.

Throttling the dog is meant to be the only way...as @Emotionalsupportviper says, a ''Break stick'' or wedge shaped lever can be inserted into the back of the dog's jaw..but all easy in theory..much harder in practice.

here...

Break Stick: making a Pit Bull release when it attacks

This tactic is specifically for PB. They're the only breed that grabs & shakes without opening the jaw. Do not use this on other breeds, they are more likely...

Interesting video - this dog was not in aggressive mode (it was in "fun" mode, and it was very comfortable with its owner manipulating it) and it was comparatively easy - though not totally straightforward - to insert the break stick - now imagine doing that with a dog twice the size (XLs are BIG), intensely focussed on the victim, twice as strong (at least) as you are and running and shaking its prey at the same time.

"Stretching" that dog out, inserting and using the break stick, wouldn't be anywhere near as easy.

I have seen a nasty fight involving a staffie. It was many years ago - the dog didn't just hold on - it rolled, like an alligator - and ripped a lump out of the other dog. I have never forgotten it. It was horrendous. (And I speak as someone who has had 4 staffies and loves the breed, though I would never have another as there are too many bad breeders around)

You mention the ''Rolling like an Alligator...''
there is a type of Pit /Staffie that has been selected for called 'Gators' because of this hideous trait.

What is wrong with people who create these monstrous mutts.

They have to be deeply insecure and lacking in some way to want to see humans and animals hurt.

Even the breeders of these Pits admit it's DNA driven ...Not the ''It's how you raise 'em'' nonsense of the Pitmommy .

"However, you must note that what makes a Gator Pitbull is how connected they are to their fighting ancestors. It’s true that proper training makes a dog, but canines don’t come as a blank slate. A dog’s genetic blueprints heavily influence how they turn out.
Their long-passed fighting days can show up in their behavior in the form of animal aggression and intense personalities. Pits can go from zero to a hundred real quick if triggered, without showing much warning before they retaliate. This somewhat explains their biting stats and why people call them unstable. They have also suffered from being used as “weapon dogs,” a term coined by Simon Harding."

Ticks every box, doesn't it? Boyfriend with two of these dogs, mother who allegedly has no idea of what they're like, boyfriend threatens her if anything happens to his dog, child attacked and left with serious injuries. Only part I can't understand is how the other girl managed to get the dog away from her friend and outside.
