Again with the food threads...as much as I love hearing what people like, I also love hearing what people hate!

So, what is the one (or a few) foods you tried and thought were vile and would never try again?

The main one that springs to my mind is whelks. wtf even are they meant to be? Its just impenetrable rubber with no taste...lol.

So, share your revulsions or argue the cause for something unlovable?

The horrid texture, the foul taste, and it looks like... I dare not say.

Crocodile in South Africa, lots of grisel, salty and rubbery. Got a proper gag reflex on that before I forced it down to avoid offence!

Another one for durian. I tried fresh and ice cream at the same sitting. Not sure why. It tasted bad enough going down the first time, but then repeated on me for hours.

And if we can include a liquid - Pripsen. Quite frankly I’d rather have threadworms than ever have to take that stuff again.

YANBU Even my dog who eats everything, would not eat a whelk when a fishmonger gave her one.

I was offered marmite once on a toast. I didnt know what it was, it looked like chocolate colour so I thought must be something like that, OMG, I had one bite I couldnt believe the taste, disgusting! that was 20 years ago, never had it again.

Beef heart. So rubbery 🤮

Andouillette. Never again.

Also a weird fermented bean paste at a fancy Japanese restaurant in Hampstead. But the andouillette was worse.

I once went to a work conference in Spain where we were served cold tomato soup with a dollop of Parmesan ice cream in the centre. I'll never forget how awful it was.

Offal. Taste and smell make me heave. I accidentally ate a bit of kidney aged 10 and even the thought of that makes me feel ill now.

lychee - the texture makes me feel like I’m eating snails (although never tried them)

scorpion in a lollipop (but why?)

salmon. Like cats vomit. Actually cats vomit would probably be more tolerable

vegan cheese - because it’s absolutely awful

Yip. Be wary of reheated rice. It was worse than labour pains

Gazpacho? A delicious, classic dish. The Parmesan ice cream is unusual but sounds as if it was being made a bit fancy.
