To be pissed off the cake was cut before DE saw it?

DSrecently turned 3, and I had a party for him. I’m not very good at baking so paid for a local cake maker to bake a cake which tied in with his favourite colours and interests. As you can imagine, it wasn’t cheap.

The actual party went well but as the children were sitting eating DH and FIL started flapping around saying that they needed to cut the cake. I was trying to stop them but both are very difficult to distract when they get an idea in their heads, and I was also contending with various other things. So to cut a long story short they both cut it before DS has a chance to look at it.

I know it doesn’t ’matter’ really but I am annoyed.

God I’d be fuming. There should always be a photo of birthday child stood / sat behind their cake!
but you’re also tight not to do candles… health and safety gone mad!

I would have grabbed the largest knife in the kitchen and told them if they cut the cake, I would cut them. And I would have meant it. What arseholes.

would you? That’s the way to make kids scream with no candles required. Just the glint of a bladed kinfe and screams traumatised kids

Sorry been reading your updates haven’t read all the other comments ..
so I take back comment about candles as already been said ..
but I would definitely be cross about the cake cutting, you might as well if bought a store one if no one was going to see it, and the fact you went through all that expense and then it was sliced without a photo of son with it would really piss me off. I’d have told husband too… I’d have told him did he not think son would want to see his own f’in cake! Your DH sounds very thoughtless !!

DH & FL are absolute dicks. I can’t believe they would think it’s ok to cut up a themed cake before a child had seen it and before everyone had sung Happy Birthday. I’d kick their arses and let them know that I am in charge.

Probably because I’m a pathetic odd sort myself? Smile

Seriously, I hate MN for this! I’m now wondering if all my guests were whispering about my weirdness. Oh, well <shrug> At least I’m not rude!

Unlike some of the absolute nobs on here.

I’m definitely with you on the cutting the cake too early - why rush it. But not having candles because of a fire risk - what is the world coming to? I’ve never heard of such a thing 🤣🤣

You would seriously do that in front of a crowd of children mostly aged three and under and their parents?

And people reckon I’m the weird one*

I would do something like this and dh and fil would believe I would do it.
It might sound weird but Dh and fil would never have cut the cake.

You’d be vexed with a knife to express your displeasure, and dp & Fil wouldn’t be surprised. Okaaay

You seem to think this is a regular thing. Move on nowt to see here kind of thang. Plus, Your FIL and DH would believe you capable of such behaviour. if they cut the cake, I would cut them. And I would have meant it.
