Horrendous pain in my side, but otherwise feel fine?

Not sure if I’m being a total hypochondriac at all, but today I woke up drenched in sweat with some pain in my upper left abdomen, right under my ribs. I’ve felt okay all day, eating and drinking normally, no vomiting, but the pain has been worsening to the point even slightly moving makes it worse. It also hurts when touching the area. I’ve not been injured or done anything that could have caused this pain, and it doesn’t feel muscular. I’ve literally just been in tears with it!

I called the doctor earlier and the receptionist said there were no appointments and to try to call back tomorrow. The pain is bad but because I am otherwise okay in myself I’d feel stupid going to A&E. But I also don’t know if I can wait until
the morning!

Any advice?!

I hope you’re ok! What a worry.

elliesmummy19 · 24/01/2024 12:29

Igglepiggleandhisboat · 24/01/2024 13:42

Hope you’re ok xx

Emmadaily · 24/01/2024 13:50

Hi another poster here hoping that you are ok
Take care xx

Bibbidybobbidyroo · 24/01/2024 14:29

Hope you are ok OP! I had a horrendous 12 hours in A and E last Christmas with a gallbladder infection and its so infuriating when you are in so much pain and the low pain easy fixes felt like they were being picked first.

cocktailanddreams · 24/01/2024 14:30

Hope the Op can drop us a quick and hopefully positive update when she gets chance

JesstheMess42 · 24/01/2024 17:14

Just come back on to check in, been thinking of you today OP. Really hope all is ok x

LakieLady · 24/01/2024 17:42

Hope all is well and you are getting whatever treatment you need, @Nctaxq .

Chichimcgee · 24/01/2024 19:23

Really hoping you’re ok op 💐

Nctaxq · 24/01/2024 21:22

Hiya, I’m sorry for not updating, I’ve been feeling sorry for myself and sleeping. I finally got seen after 11 hours of waiting. My bloods were okay but CRP had risen & something showing with lymph-somethings (I can’t remember what it was?!).

They examined me and oh my god when they pushed down on the area I cried. They did a urine test and there was blood in my urine.

However, they have said to see how it goes the next few days because bloods are reassuring so could just be a viral infection.

I’m really confused about it but was too tired to argue with them after such a long wait. I’m still in pain and it hurts to touch and to do anything other than lounge around really.

I don’t know, I don’t want to be a hypochondriac but you know when there’s something telling you there’s something wrong and you’re just praying it’s not getting missed?

I don’t want to go back or bug anyone so I’m just going to get through it for a few days and hope it is just viral.

Thank you all for your kind words and help and support, I really appreciate it xx

I don't understand that. Viral for what exactly? If your CRP is raised it means you have an infection, were they not able to say where the infection was? Did they say what to do if it gets worse?

I'd be booking in with the GP if you can.

Nctaxq · 24/01/2024 21:29

@Princesspollyyy They asked if I’d have any episodes of diarrhoea and I said yes a couple. They’ve said it could be norovirus. I don’t get it
either.

Sounds like kidney stones perhaps- did they not book you in for any imaging?

Greenvelvetdress · 24/01/2024 21:33

Diarrhoea can also be a sign of a kidney infection too. They should really have treated you for a UTI if you had blood in your urine and a high CRP. I'd try see the GP tomorrow if you don't feel any better, you could end up with a kidney infection.

Ulysees · 24/01/2024 21:36

Oh my giddy aunt thank goodness you've been seen. I hope it isn't anything serious.

Flatulence · 24/01/2024 21:43

Glad you're doing okay and they couldn't find anything immediately concerning. I'm sorry you're still feeling grotty though.
Raised CRP and lymphocytes don't mean a lot on their own; they can be present when you have a minor snuffle or sore throat. It's when they're very high or in combination with other signs and symptoms that they ring alarm bells.
I would try to get a GP appointment tomorrow and ask specifically about kidney stones and a UTI. There's obviously something wrong; being in that much pain and having blood in your urine is not normal and it's not okay for you to just muddle on hoping it will go away.
Depending on where you live your GP may be able to see your test results already and, if so, should be able to explain what they mean and talk to you about next steps to establish what's going on and how they can help you.

Worriedaboutleaving · 24/01/2024 21:46

Have they actually ruled out a kidney infection / UTI??

BatsVSBelfrys · 24/01/2024 21:53

You're describing kidney stones tbh. I've had one and it's very painful and you just can't get comfortable.

The pain comes in 'attacks' of renal colic and this could be what you're experiencing. Blood (visible or otherwise) in the urine is common as is feeling sick and having an upset stomach

You need a scan of your kidneys to be sure

Wishitsnows · 24/01/2024 21:53

They just sent you home saying see how it goes and it might be viral. That does not sound like decent care and an 11 hour wait for that as well. Definitely try your gp again tomorrow

DyslexicPoster · 24/01/2024 21:53

If you feel no better or worse tomorrow I'd think about the gp on Friday. Anyway I hope you do improve.

spiderlight · 24/01/2024 21:54

There was a thread on here a couple of months back about a child with (IIRC) similar sounding pain and they were eventually diagnosed with mesenteric lymphadenitis - basically swollen glands in the abdomen due to a viral infection.

Pigeonqueen · 24/01/2024 21:55

Worriedaboutleaving · 24/01/2024 21:46

This.

If you are no better by tomorrow I’d be tempted to either go to another A and E if you’re really unwell or if you think it’s not super urgent contact 111 / your GP. Don’t just accept what they’ve told you - they do often get it wrong.

Emmadaily · 24/01/2024 21:57

Hi OP
I agree with the other posters that you should try see your GP soon as you can to rule out an UTI
I would take an urine sample with you and if blood / protein shows up maybe a course of anti biotics will be prescribed for you and you start to feel much better very soon
Take care xx

LittleMonks11 · 24/01/2024 22:00

Oh OP you poor thing.

The bloods are reassuring which is good.

Do you have someone with you or nearby?

I would phone GP tomorrow if you're the same or worse.

YukoandHiro · 24/01/2024 22:12

Gallbladder, appendix, quite a few things that should be checked out today
