Horrendous pain in my side, but otherwise feel fine?

Not sure if I’m being a total hypochondriac at all, but today I woke up drenched in sweat with some pain in my upper left abdomen, right under my ribs. I’ve felt okay all day, eating and drinking normally, no vomiting, but the pain has been worsening to the point even slightly moving makes it worse. It also hurts when touching the area. I’ve not been injured or done anything that could have caused this pain, and it doesn’t feel muscular. I’ve literally just been in tears with it!

I called the doctor earlier and the receptionist said there were no appointments and to try to call back tomorrow. The pain is bad but because I am otherwise okay in myself I’d feel stupid going to A&E. But I also don’t know if I can wait until
the morning!

Any advice?!

And I have to wait for any blood results before a doctor even looks at me so I’m going to be here for so long and I’m not coping at all

Sounds like it could potentially be a blocked bile duct. Happens in ppl who have had their gallbladder removed. Good thing you are at hospital. Hope they rule out anything serious.

WhyAmINotCleaning · 24/01/2024 01:06

I'd go to the desk if it gets worse and inform them. Or ask someone to go for you.

Filamumof9 · 24/01/2024 01:17

I had similar pain and had pneumonia. Always thought that you would have pain under your ribs but apparently below is also possible.

Have they taken blood samples yet?

Nctaxq · 24/01/2024 01:46

I’ve had bloods done now and they’ve done a urine sample that I’m waiting for too. My BP has gone down its now 109/59, heart rate still 120. Now just to wait for the doctor. It’s definitely busy back there

Good to hear your blood pressure has dropped. I hope you're not waiting too long. Try not to worry too much, you're in the right place.

Tilllly · 24/01/2024 02:13

Hope you don't have to wait too long

coxesorangepippin · 24/01/2024 02:20

Josette77 · 24/01/2024 03:52

I hope you feel better and get answers soon. 💝

Nctaxq · 24/01/2024 04:07

Still waiting! An hour ago there were still 10 in front… it’s the busiest I’ve ever seen it. There’s still quite a few people in the waiting room too, but it seems lots of people have left as names keep being called with no one responding…

Hope you get an answer soon.

fungibletoken · 24/01/2024 04:13

Hope you haven't been too uncomfortable waiting, OP 💐 I expect things will start to go a lot quicker soon as the waiting room is thinning out. Hope you're more comfortable soon.

Beach11 · 24/01/2024 07:01

How are you getting on?

Whataretheodds · 24/01/2024 07:35

Hope you're OK OP

determinedtomakethiswork · 24/01/2024 07:51

I hope you are okay. I wondered whether it was an ovarian cyst that had twisted. When my friend had this she found what helped was being on the bed and sitting up and putting her face down by her knees so that her back was as stretched as possible. It was originally thought to be kidney stones but a quick scan showed the cyst.

Cattymonster · 24/01/2024 07:51

I hope you didn't give up, OP. How are you now?

Spencer0220 · 24/01/2024 07:56

Really hope you are okay

Catmama123 · 24/01/2024 08:04

Hope you've been seen OP, it's scary how busy A&E is at times now and how long it takes to be seen when you are in so much pain. Really hope you have some answers & pain relief now x

Emmelina · 24/01/2024 08:05

I hope you’re getting answers op. Following with interest as I too get this sometimes. Not often but crippling when it hits!

JesstheMess42 · 24/01/2024 08:24

Just checking in to see how you are OP.

olderbutwiser · 24/01/2024 08:38

You did call and cancel the ambulance before you left didn’t you?

Sorry you are waiting so long. Clinicians aren’t very interested in pain of itself, only in what’s causing the pain, and if they are busy and you’re not deteriorating you’re going to be lower down the queue. But as they say, in A&E being low priority is a good thing.

TheSquareMile · 24/01/2024 10:05

@Nctaxq

How are you now, OP?

If you read the thread, you'll see that yes, she did cancel the ambulance.

Hope you’re ok OP
