Is it me or is Amanda Holden a total narcissist? (I know that word gets thrown around a lot on here but I think she absolutely is one). What kind of mother wants to be centre of attention at her DD’s 18th Birthday bash? Confused
Poor Lexi.

So aibu?

Amanda Holden stuns in sequin co-ord at daughter Lexi's 18th birthday

The radio presenter, 52, pulled out all the stops to celebrate her eldest child's milestone birthday.

Is that you Phil?

Sugarfish · 21/01/2024 15:28

What’s the problem? It was a party, generally people drink and have a good time at those. Should she have stayed in the shadows wearing a sack?

I got to meet her once when she presented an award at my work. She was really lovely, and I think she comes across really well on that show with Alan Carr. She seems like she’d be a laugh. Do people not like her because she’s over 40, still looks good and clearly enjoys her life?

I8toys · 21/01/2024 15:28

Total cringe. We just provide the set up, food and drinks and leave them to it.

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 21/01/2024 15:29

I was more surprised that any 18 year olds know the words to Murder On the Dancefloor, but I see it's in a film. I hate that song.

AH is rather fond herself and this is how she keeps herself in the public eye, but I don't think it's terrible that she was enjoying herself at her daughters party. She's clearly hammered. Not all kids are embarrassed by their parents. I was. My stepkids are not.

NoTouch · 21/01/2024 15:30

Not an AH fan at all but it is a short clip from a party where she was obviously a more than a bit pissed and playing up to one song. We have no idea what she was like the rest of the evening so no I wouldn't judge anyone based on that short clip. 🤷‍♀️

Coyoacan · 21/01/2024 15:31

I'm not familiar with Amanda Holden but self-employed performers have to do a lot of self-promotion. It's the name of the game. Sad that people here take it so seriously

CharlieBoo · 21/01/2024 15:31

she looks like she’s having fun.. her dd just turned 18! Woman over a certain age dresses up and enjoyed herself.. shocker (and I’m not a huge AH fan)

Fedupmumofadultsons · 21/01/2024 15:32

For goodness sake I am not her greatest fan but she was hardly stripping her clothes she is a 50 something enjoying herself at her daughters party oh the shocker. Leave folk alone

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 21/01/2024 15:33

MintyCedric · 21/01/2024 14:47

I’m not a huge fan of her but she looks like a proud mum who’s a bit pissed and larking about at her daughter’s 18th.

So what?

This! Daily Mail clearly pulled it from social, the teens pictured all look like they’re having a great time so what’s the harm. Lexi is clearly buying into showbiz herself, having signed up to Storm models, so she probably loves having a famous mum. Your post reads as very misogynistic actually - poor old mother should be at the back of the room hiding away, not getting involved.

Hazyethics · 21/01/2024 15:33

She just looks like a lot of fun to me !!

ThatIsOutrageous · 21/01/2024 14:44

I think I would’ve died of embarrassment if my mum had come to my 18th Birthday party, let alone made herself centre of attention like it was her 18th.

And yes her DD’s are much prettier than her, bet she hates that!

Edited

Some teens have a closer relationship with their parents. Althoall my friends came to my 18th, it was very much a family party too.
No doubt if she'd left a large number of 17 and 18 year olds to party on their own and had refused to be involved someone would be along to slag her off for NOT being there.

TotalAbsenceOfImperialRaiment · 21/01/2024 15:37

Well, presumably she is paying for the shindig, so why shouldn't she have a dance?

Apparently some parents just plonk the food on the table and bugger off - what a shame they’re considered so low in their DC’s lives!

whynotwhatknot · 21/01/2024 15:41

she always has been and so annoying with that laugh

My parents refused to come to my 18th.

This is so catty, why do women attack other women like this.

from what I can see Amanda is really proud of and close to her children and helping her eldest with modelling. Far from hating it.

for all you know she did one daft dance and handed over the mike.

stop the frothing. It’s not a good look.

areyouhavinglaugh · 21/01/2024 15:42

Completely normal! Looks like they are very well off and having a great time!

KarenNotAKaren · 21/01/2024 15:43

Oneofthesurvivors · 21/01/2024 15:42

My parents refused to come to my 18th.

Which is fine that’s their choice. But people whose children would ‘die of embarrassment’ because their parents decide to join in a landmark celebration should have a word with themselves

DiamondGazette · 21/01/2024 15:44

I like Amanda Holden and I think she looks amazing. She has a good relationship with her daughters, and the party looks fun.

I feel a game of misogyny bingo is in order

  • Woman is jealous of pretty daughter ✔️
  • What’s next?

Yup all women are in competition with each other and jealous of other women - even their daughters (in misogyny land) .

Women over 30 should not drink/dance/have fun

It's okay to dis/hate/say nasty things about women you don't know because it's cool

Apparently we shouldn’t laugh a strong laugh either. If we MUST laugh, it must be when a man makes a bad joke and it MUST be tinkly and short lived lest we come across as attention seekers.

I don’t like AH very much but surely she’s allowed to have a dance at her own DD’s party?

This

There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to celebrate with your friends separately from your family. It does not mean you do not value your parents

I love my mum to bits but a party animal she is not. And she did not need to be present to hold my hair back in the sticky club on my 18th birthday to know I love her and value her.

Exactly
She seems like a great mum and is obviously proud of her daughters
I like the fact that she doesn’t got into the very narrow stereotype of how 50+ mother should behave .
I think it is obvious that she doesn’t take herself too seriously
