Is it me or is Amanda Holden a total narcissist? (I know that word gets thrown around a lot on here but I think she absolutely is one). What kind of mother wants to be centre of attention at her DD’s 18th Birthday bash? Confused
Poor Lexi.

So aibu?

Amanda Holden stuns in sequin co-ord at daughter Lexi's 18th birthday

The radio presenter, 52, pulled out all the stops to celebrate her eldest child's milestone birthday.

I do not know or have never met AH, so it is totally irrational that I find her really irritating and that I have decided she is a talentless attention seeker. Considering I watch nothing that she is in these days (maybe X factor or whatever it was for a couple of series years ago) and purposely avoid anything she is in, I know I am being irrational.

She is very attractive, but even without following her or seeking her out I seem to know she spends a lot of time posting pictures of herself in bikinis, putting out her bins wearing a ball gown, being photographed going to her radio show (looking amazing tbh). I know there is another thread on here saying she is actually really warm, funny and self-deprecating and I have probably got her all wrong. As I said it is irrational.

I would love to watch the series with Alan Carr but she really irritates me and if my DD switched to Heart on the car radio I get anxious it may be not switched back and I get her in the morning.

As for her daughter, she is probably not your average 18 year old being embarrassed by the pissed, slightly emotional and middle aged mum gate crashing their 18th. Being the daughter of her mum has opened doors and maybe she is hoping this will launch a career in the spotlight/showbiz. Maybe not and she want to become an accountant.

ForTonightGodisaDJ · 21/01/2024 15:12

Always liked AH. I think she's herself and down to earth. I think some people (not saying you, just in the general public) might be jealous of how well she has aged.

Do you work for the Mail?! [keep seeing links]
She was shimmying/wall-shagging to Murder on the Dancefloor.
That in itself is not unreasonable. Her daughter's friends were probably clapping/encouraging/laughing/squirming or wincing.
It's just a story nicked from her insta on a slow news day.
Whether she needs to do an instastory or what have you is another thing entirely.

Are you new to MN?

I've been here about 13 years and it's always been the most popular tabloid by far 🤷‍♂️

Woman dares enjoy herself shocker!

Yes @egowise women should be self deprecating wall flowers to avoid any level of criticism! Women - especially women over 35 - should NEVER enjoy themselves especially in front of the young (valid) people

Theyarehere · 21/01/2024 15:13

I don’t like AH at all she makes me feel a bit sad for her, all that surgery and fillers smacks of desperation and it’s a shame because she’s got quite a nice personality behind it all. Having said all that so what if she got a bit pissed and made a tit of herself at her daughters party?

ScotsTaxQuery · 21/01/2024 15:13

People have different types of relationships with their children. AH obviously is very close and her profession has meant money is no object so they’ve probably partied/shopped/holidayed a lot together. I’m sure it was just a moment within a party - I don’t think AH was on the decks all night. You can’t complain about your Mum having a bit of a moment on the dance floor with their daughter even if she was a bit embarrassed.

I don’t think I’ve got a lot in common with AH other than being a mother to teenagers but I can’t hate her for being herself. I’m sure her daughter is used to it 😁

BubbleBubbleBubbleBubblePop · 21/01/2024 14:44

I'd have been absolutely mortified at 18 if my mother acted like that.

See I was the opposite.
My mum was so bloody prudish and judgmental (still is) that I never had friends round because of how embarrassing she was. The notion of an 18th birthday party would have been out of the question because she would have said something like “Only tarts have 18th birthday parties and you absolutely cannot have alcohol”. Not that this kind of stance brought her anything but total misery. I’d have given my right arms to see her allow her to have fun and enjoy herself as well.

I think I would’ve died of embarrassment if my mum had come to my 18th Birthday party, let alone made herself centre of attention like it was her 18th.

And yes her DD’s are much prettier than her, bet she hates that!

Edited

I think I would’ve died of embarrassment if my mum had come to my 18th Birthday party

You'd have died of embarrassment if she even just attended??

That's such a shame to hear.

My kids would've been bitterly disappointed if I hadn't attended theirs!

Beetlebumz · 21/01/2024 15:17

Definitely a narcissist. Always makes a massive effort or goes virtually naked if photographed with her dd. Sad she’s so competitive with her!

foxlover47 · 21/01/2024 15:17

It looked to me she wanted to do the "murder on the dance floor " craze that's gone viral
On Tik tok and insta since the saltburn movie end with Barry keoghan and his 🍆
Lexi seemed to not mind
She looked a bit pissed she did get Chris on film a couple of times too and danced with him / against him
I imagine she's just that sort of party type mum all the time I don't think she was trying to steal the limelight just having a good time and a laugh

dworky · 21/01/2024 15:17

All you have seen is a snapshot of the party, you have no way of really knowing what went on.

This is internalised misogyny.

Thegoodbadandugly · 21/01/2024 15:18

It's the Daily Fail, looks like they were all having an amazing time, Amanda took the mic to get daughter.

foxlover47 · 21/01/2024 15:18

Plus she looked absolutely gorgeous , happy and was having a good time celebrating her beautiful daughters 18th

100%. This whole thread is baffling.

@KarenNotAKaren MoTDF is played at the end of the film Saltburn to a very eye catching performance by the lead actor, as he dances (naked). It's sparked a revival of the song and a trend to copy the dance on online videos.

Aaaah thank you!! It’s on my “to watch” list not least so my colleagues can STFU about “have you watched it yet” 😂

KarenNotAKaren · 21/01/2024 15:19

I also got laughed at for asking if it was set in Saltburn by the Sea

theemmadilemma · 21/01/2024 15:20

What an embarrassment.

Bythefireside · 21/01/2024 15:20

or maybe she’s making the effort to look nice and make her daughters birthday special.

StaunchMomma · 21/01/2024 15:21

I had a young, beautiful Mum. We did lots of clubbing/festival going etc together in my late teens/early twenties. I didn't need her to sit back and be a wallflower to feel good about myself. Amanda is show business for a very clearl reason. She's showy and camp and at the end of the day she's not doing anything wrong.

All I saw in that video was a somewhat pished woman dragging a camera to a young woman who I assume is her daughter and then grabbing an older man to the dancefloor.

Haters gonna hate.

Dixiechickonhols · 21/01/2024 15:21

My dc has just had her 18th party. I was allowed to pop in to check all ok and that was it! She’d have died if I’d behaved like that.
Her friends party yesterday and her friends mum did a dance and speech and the girl apparently loved it. So it depends on the teen.

treath · 21/01/2024 15:22

I think I would’ve died of embarrassment if my mum had come to my 18th Birthday party

That is an issue between you and your mum.

There is no way my eldest would have had an 18rh party without her family being part of it/.

I am not a fan of AH but ffs there is nothing wrong with a petty including family.

MarIeyG · 21/01/2024 15:23

Shock horror she danced at a party 🤷‍♀️

KarenNotAKaren · 21/01/2024 15:24

When my DD turns 18 and I paid for a birthday party, I’d find it stonkingly rude if she didn’t want me there. I do not, and will never, enable the notion to my kids that I’m just a sad sack mum who should be hidden when their friends are around. I know plenty of mums who do this and their kids are unpardonably nasty to them, and they just accept it as something teenagers feel about their parents

I probably move in different circles as teen ‘parties’ are part of my religion but where I come from, your family gets an invite to your teenage party. Grannies and grandads, aunties and uncles as well as friends all get invites. And no one complains.
