Is it me or is Amanda Holden a total narcissist? (I know that word gets thrown around a lot on here but I think she absolutely is one). What kind of mother wants to be centre of attention at her DD’s 18th Birthday bash? Confused
Poor Lexi.

So aibu?

Amanda Holden stuns in sequin co-ord at daughter Lexi's 18th birthday

The radio presenter, 52, pulled out all the stops to celebrate her eldest child's milestone birthday.

@Downunderduchess
The posters saying they wouldn’t attend their daughter’s 18th birthday party, why?? Isn’t it a celebration
My mum.and dad were both at mine, along with my grandparents, aunties and uncles too
Didn't banish them in favour of my friends!
I genuinely wanted both there so some of these comments are a bit sad

Sooooooo much internalised misogyny on this thread!

people only happy if a woman over a certain age is home in their pj’s serving everyone else.

nah!

TheaBrandt · 22/01/2024 06:38

I would be interested if the critical posters could point me in the direction of the rulebook for the "correct" way to behave at ones oldest dds 18th? Need to know as it is imminent and don't want to inadvertently break a rule through not knowing what the rules are.

TheaBrandt · 22/01/2024 06:39

Especially concerning for me as am also 50 and like a dance - two things that seem to many deeply unacceptable.

dessyh · 22/01/2024 07:45

@EffieGraysDisappointingWeddingNight

Right, but a hater thread for Alison or Fern wouldn’t accuse them of being jealous of their child’s beauty or narcissistic for dancing at their daughter’s 18th, is my clumsy point.

Ditto for similar level of daytime TV fame types who are seen as a little more vulnerable or conventionally ‘flawed’ - most of the Loose Women, Lorraine etc. I like that she’s older and glam and is (at least trying to be) sexy.

FloofCloud · 22/01/2024 07:50

God I really can't abide this woman, she's GOT to be at the centre of everything - she should hold back at her own daughters 18th 🙄

BubbleBubbleBubbleBubblePop · 21/01/2024 22:34

Don't worry, just get all the tweaks she's had done and you'll be just as good looking at 52!

I don't think they've invented a tweak yet that can give a woman a figure like that. Plus she had the raw material to work with in the first place. Botox and filler may help with aging, but it isn't going to make a plain woman good looking. Not that any of that matters as the thread is about her behaviour at the party, which I can't see anything wrong with. Though I suspect had she been an ordinary looking middle aged woman dressed 'maturely', less than perfect body, then she would have been praised as being good fun.

Its her username! 😂

Is there a free bar in here tonight, and nobody has told me???

And yet you've not used anyone else's username when replying to them. Of course you're using it as an insult.

It'd be fair to say the idea that most stereotypes are based on truth was on my mind when I was defending myself against Karen... so not so much an insult, moreso the highlighting of irony.

Some nasty comments here, it’s disappointing that people can be so judgemental and small minded. I’m pretty ambivalent about AH but she is clearly very proud of her dd’s and absolutely devoted to them. It’s horrid to say that any mother is jealous of her dd’s.

The outfit she’s wearing is actually pretty understated (for AH), she usually wears far more daring clothes, its almost as if she wants her dd to be the centre of attention on her birthday.

And there is nothing wrong with having fun at your dc’s birthday party. My dd seems to hate me most of the time at the minute but literally drags me up to dance with her at parties. It’s something we’ve always done since she was small.

My own dm was really outgoing and always the centre of attention but I loved spending time with her, even when people jokingly said we must be sisters. She was never jealous of us, in fact she was never anything but proud but she couldn’t be expected to suddenly change her personality just because she had teenage daughters. We were never embarrassed, mum was so caring and so much fun. There was the odd comment but only from people who were envious. I can say that for all their issues with her parenting, my dm was definitely the only one waiting to collect us outside the club as she wanted be sure we got home safely.

This thread reminded me of Amanda Holden's reaction to Susan Boyle's first GBT audition. She was one of the judges and she was very sweet, supportive and kind to Susan. She called out the crowd for mocking and belittling her. I rated AH's behaviour pretty highly on that occasion.

I find myself watching that audition sometimes because it shows us a middle-aged woman who is neurodiverse and not conventionally attractive earning the validation she so richly deserves - and I love it.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 22/01/2024 09:19

I loved the first season of Wild at Heart so have always had a soft spot for AH.

What was Amanda's reaction to Susan Boyle when she first walked out on stage? Before it was clear she was going to be a hit with audiences.

LauderSyme · 22/01/2024 09:27

If she showed any scepticism it wasn't captured in the edit. Her jaw dropped in surprise at the beauty of Susan's voice - but then so did mine and thousands of others!

I'm maybe being overly cynical, but Susan Boyle herself has said she was scouted for BGT; they found her.
Its widely noted that the judges are briefed, and will have saw/heard the acts (sometimes several times) before their 'first' audition.
I read somewhere back in the day that Susan was incredibly nervous, and was introduced to all the judges before she went on stage.

LauderSyme · 22/01/2024 09:35

Oh well I guess you can never really believe anything, can you?

Not that BGT is required to be an exemplar of truth and transparency!

I'm still going to treasure the audience's reaction.

TBH I think a lot of the Susan Boyle audition reactions were heavily edited. They’re judges and audience pulling funny facial expressions etc - well that could have been from literally anything that day and we’d never know. It was all part of the build up to making us think she was a crap act and then shocking us. It’s been yonks since I’ve seen it but I remember Piers pulling a dirty look supposedly when she says her age but don’t remember the other 2 doing the same.

KarenNotAKaren · 22/01/2024 10:11

In fact I remember thinking the reactions were BS when SuBo said she wanted to be like Elaine Paige and a memebr of the audience pulled a face and said “Who?” To her mate. As if Elaine Paige is such an obscure person 😂😂

Last year spent a while sharing a coffee and chatting with Amanda Holden at Pisa Airport as our flight was delayed. She was absolutely lovely and very warm and chatty. Happily posed for photos with DD and her friends.

My mum snogged my 21 year old boyfriend at my 18th. It was mortifying

Poor lad - power imbalance or what.

doyouknowwhatimean · 22/01/2024 10:50

This is what I do after a few proseccos at my kids party but I wouldn't look as good or post it online!

I really like her on the house programme with Alan Carr. Obviously heavily edited but seems to have a sense of humour and be a team player.

Want to not as she's had a lot of work and fillers and I dislike that most women in the public eye over 35 seem to have that look - It's scary how that's become the norm. Lots of people look naturally fab (like Amanda's mate Lisa Faulkener) and that's better than pertpetuating this tyranny for the next generation and wasting our time and money. Very jealous of her figure mind.

Also I feel like she's trying to make her daughters "happen". They're good looking girls but she posts them in bikinis and talks about modeling contracts. I've got 2 DDs who are total stunners (obvs) but I try and make sure they've got qualities other than their looks.

It was her choice to marry him! Why did she I wonder?

And his choice to marry her. I wonder why?

They were both adults and both went into it for their own reasons. I am not a fan of AH, but why is it always the young woman who is accused of devious intent when he was the more powerful in the relationship - at the start anyway.

Ramalangadingdong · 22/01/2024 15:52

Oblomov23 · 21/01/2024 23:09

She's too much, she can't even give her dd centre stage, she has to have it for herself. So sad.

Please watch the video again and you will see this isn’t true.

she sends herself up, hands the mike to her daughter then disappears into the crowd. If that isn’t a mum saying this is your show not mine then what is?

i can’t believe some of you have put me in a position where I am defending AH who I am not a fan of, but I just don’t see what you see. Some of you are even saying she doesn’t look good. In my eyes she looks great and I envy her figure. While I wouldn’t want to be as thin as her I would like to have the discipline to be slimmer than I am. I would like to know which women in the public eye the same age as her look better?
