Is it me or is Amanda Holden a total narcissist? (I know that word gets thrown around a lot on here but I think she absolutely is one). What kind of mother wants to be centre of attention at her DD’s 18th Birthday bash? Confused
Poor Lexi.

So aibu?

Amanda Holden stuns in sequin co-ord at daughter Lexi's 18th birthday

The radio presenter, 52, pulled out all the stops to celebrate her eldest child's milestone birthday.

She thinks the absolute world of herself!

I would too if I looked like that!

MaybeImbad · 21/01/2024 14:55

If you watch the video OP - she just looks like she’s having fun - so does her daughter - and actually she starts the track up and then goes to give the mic to her daughter and bring her daughter out in front of her while she vanishes off. They both look lovely and is if they have a great relationship 😊

regenerate · 21/01/2024 14:55

You name changed to start the thread, so clearly you knew it was a pretty nasty one

Don't see the issues, unless AH gets on your t**ts generally.

I actually don’t mind her normally, I just thought it was a really weird thing to do and I felt sorry for her DD having to share the attention with her mother.

My uncle is like this. Throws big parties for his children then makes himself the centre of attention. He's a full blown narcissist.

BringItOnxxx · 21/01/2024 14:56

Actually I've now watched the clip and her daughter looks mortified 😬

Greensleevevssnotnose · 21/01/2024 14:57

My mum snogged my 21 year old boyfriend at my 18th. It was mortifying

LadyEloise1 · 21/01/2024 14:58

BubbleBubbleBubbleBubblePop · 21/01/2024 14:44

I'd have been absolutely mortified at 18 if my mother acted like that.

Me too Smile

pilates · 21/01/2024 14:58

It was a big cringe 😬 but she does look fabulous. Was her daughter trying to run away? 😂

I take it back, the daughter does look a bit annoyed! And the pushing the People out of the way... I guess she was a bit drunk.

duckpancakes · 21/01/2024 14:58

I thought this was going to be about Amanda Holden ruining your daughter's 18th.

You're being unreasonable and clearly just don't like AH

TheaBrandt · 21/01/2024 14:59

She’s paying for it! I think fair enough. That said I will be doing it the opposite way round as I want my teen dds to party at my 50th!

Eeeeeek.

Can't even imagine the cringey horror of that.

Some parents are always in competition with their offspring. Bryan Ferry even married his son's ex-girlfriend which I think is weird af.

Daily Mail articles are literally designed to cause feelings of disgust. A lot of people enjoy that feeling and keep going back for more because it gives you a sense that you’re better than.

Hope you’re enjoying yourself.

ThatIsOutrageous · 21/01/2024 14:49

That’s ok. I did debate whether to post this in chat but thought I’d risk it here 😆

Fair enough - at least you took it on the chin!

I think she wouldn't have her career and be famous if she didn't have the personality she has. She can't switch it off and be someone else just cos you think she should.

She was 'the centre of attention' for just a few minutes, not for the entire party.

It's a shame that you've bought into all the guff about women's sexual competitiveness, and creepy that you're applying it to a mother and daughter.

KarenNotAKaren · 21/01/2024 15:02

She’s not a regular mom, she’s a cool mom!

KarenNotAKaren · 21/01/2024 15:06

On a serious note I think it’s fine - she’s having fun, her DD was having fun - her mum is a celebrity after all, a fact I imagine everyone knows, she probably didn’t mind showing her mum off.

I really feel very uncomfortable when women of a certain age are critiqued for not behaving the way people THINK a woman her age should behave.

I also think if it was for example a male footballer at his son’s 18th kicking around a ball with his mates - think David Beckham - everyone would say what a great dad he is.

As a side note - why is Murder on the Dancefloor suddenly being played everywhere?! Did I miss something?

fedupandstuck · 21/01/2024 15:06

It's a video of a bunch of people having what looks like a great time. It's great that Amanda Holden and her daughter seem to get on and have a great time together. The daughter doesn't look embarrassed or awkward at all.

It's another DM attempt to shame an older-than-DM-acceptable women for dressing how she wants and having a great time.

User1775 · 21/01/2024 15:07

I am utterly baffled by people not attending their own child's 18th?? Why? Did they not invite you? Were you not hurt?

Basilandmandarin · 21/01/2024 15:07

ThatIsOutrageous · 21/01/2024 14:44

I think I would’ve died of embarrassment if my mum had come to my 18th Birthday party, let alone made herself centre of attention like it was her 18th.

And yes her DD’s are much prettier than her, bet she hates that!

Edited

Were you at the party, OP?

fedupandstuck · 21/01/2024 15:08

@KarenNotAKaren MoTDF is played at the end of the film Saltburn to a very eye catching performance by the lead actor, as he dances (naked). It's sparked a revival of the song and a trend to copy the dance on online videos.

THisbackwithavengeance · 21/01/2024 15:08

I don't think the OP is being nasty at all.

I think it's bad form to host a party for your DC and then try and hog all the attention. Why on earth would a woman in her 50s want to attend a teenager's party and then post videos of yourself doing sexy-dancing and acting pissed. Just fuck off.

But that's AH for you.

PinkiOcelot · 21/01/2024 14:37

She thinks the absolute world of herself!

Why shouldn’t she though?

Shes successful, looks AMAZING (though I suspect she never so much as sniffs chocolate in order to have that figure) and has overcome a lot of hardships in her life, including rampant and consistent misogyny, to get where she is.

I also will probably get sneered at but I think she’s talented, and she’s good fun on BGT. I saw her in a west end show ages ago (I think it was called Thoroughly Modern Millie) her performance was outstanding

Murder on the Dancefloor is played during a memorable scene in the much talked about film Saltburn.

Yes but Lexi is even more beautiful than her mum. Amanda will hate that.

I feel a game of misogyny bingo is in order
