Child on trampoline in the rain

Thethingspeoplegetupto · 18/01/2024 13:03

If you looked out of your window and saw the child next door to you, in the pouring rain, running in the garden and jumping on the trampoline, what would you think?

LlynTegid · 18/01/2024 17:59

I'd think a parent or parents who had given in to 'pester power'.

KarenNotAKaren · 18/01/2024 18:02

“Wow that kid is resilient”

We went to a party in the summer where the hosts had a bouncy castle with a slide in the garden. It was pissing it down so hard, luckily we had a marquee for the adults but the 8 or so children went and got fairy liquid and put it down the slide so they could go faster in the rain 🤣🤣🤣

TheNinny · 18/01/2024 18:04

I’d think stubborn child and parent who has finally given in an ‘ok have it your way then’ type stand off. This would be me!

Universalsnail · 18/01/2024 18:35

That they were having fun?

carpingdeum · 18/01/2024 19:09

Mine used to go on the trampoline at night in the coldest winter. Jump for a count of twenty then get straight in the hot tub. Rinse and repeat. They loved it

jellybe · 18/01/2024 19:18

If the looked like they were enjoying it then I'd think 'oh cute!' If it looked like they'd been forced to be outside and were miserable then I'd be concerned.

WetBandits · 18/01/2024 13:05

That they were out having fun?

And they were wondering why the nosey neighbour was watching them, creepy woman!

JudyP · 18/01/2024 20:05

Our boys would beg to go on the trampoline in all weather so I would say just for 10/15 mins and then straight into the bath - I would have it ready for them so they could strip and jump straight in! They loved it!

@ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea Southern Europe, this is cold though, rain and coats, jumpers weather

TBF - your neighbour's comments make more sense in context. We often visit Spain in the winter months - we are in shorts whilst they have their coats and scarves on!

tralalalalalalalal · 18/01/2024 21:00

Would call social services right away, obviously

Tinkerbyebye · 18/01/2024 21:02

How much fun they must be having

I’d think ‘lol. Kid having fun in the rain’.

18 degrees where we are, but heavy rain. Child in wellies, leggings, puffa jacket with hood up.

I'd find the clothing odd. I'd expect them to be barefoot and in single layer clothing that could be stripped off and left to dry easily when the child came inside. 18 isn't cold when you are being active.

JustTooDarnLoud · 18/01/2024 13:46

The question was ‘what would you think’?

Presumable this poster has a child with ADHD that’s has done similar, so that’s why they would think that. They aren’t making an armchair diagnosis at all, merely answering op’s question.

Thank you and yes, not my child actually (although she is autistic) but a friend's child. She's AuDHD and will jump on her trampoline for hours, in any weather, at any time of day including late in the evening.

Not an armchair diagnosis, just my first thought in response to the original and pretty vague question!

Also, given that this post was started at 1pm on a school day, I also thought perhaps ND because ND children are the most likely to NOT be in school (compared with NT children) due to unmet SEN.

Thethingspeoplegetupto · 18/01/2024 22:00

@Kalevala Feels cold to us! We’ve adapted

Mine would have been barefoot and in track pants and t-shirt on the trampoline in 18 degrees and the rain in Sydney. It must be individual.

Thethingspeoplegetupto · 18/01/2024 22:15

@Kalevala Must be, people in jumpers and coats since November, January is the coldest usually

We'd have normally been in a jumper or jacket, but not if active on the trampoline in the rain, it would get wet and take forever to dry.

Thethingspeoplegetupto · 18/01/2024 22:31

@Kalevala Ok 😂

She asked to play outside in the rain, I said yes if she wore her wellies and coat. She was dancing around in the rain, which I expected, then started to jump on the trampoline.
It probably will take ages to dry, until the sun comes back at least. She has other coats though so it’s all ok

OP posts:
LoveBluey · 18/01/2024 22:53

My first thought was the Bluey episode where they put the hose under the trampoline and play salad spinner! I won't be able to watch that again without worrying about Bingo breaking a leg.

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 19/01/2024 01:30

Well its -3 here today rainy and sleeting and my 8 year old played out on her trampoline and had great fun. Even our dogs libe trampolining! She was wrapped up warm in her snowsuit and roaring with laughter so I wouldn’t give a stuff what my neighbours thought! She was fully supervised at all times.

Bythefireside · 19/01/2024 04:13

Really dangerous I know a child slipped on a wet trampoline and broke their femur

lazyarse123 · 19/01/2024 05:30

Trampolines weren't a thing when mine were young but I have photos of youngest when he was about 8 dancing in torrential rain on our drive wearing wellies., shorts and t-shirt. I took the pictures from inside.
Let her have fun.

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 19/01/2024 05:36

Nothing. In fact I'm pretty sure I have seen my neighbours doing this. What's the issue?
