Child on trampoline in the rain

If you looked out of your window and saw the child next door to you, in the pouring rain, running in the garden and jumping on the trampoline, what would you think?

I’d think the internet was down.

😂

Bearing in mind it’s likely a cultural thing as many seem to think weather makes every child ill

Ah, you must be in France.

I would smile at a kid having lots of fun no matter the weather.

Threeboysadogandacat · 18/01/2024 15:36

I remember my mother being aghast at the neighbours children being out in the street in pyjamas, riding their new bikes on Christmas Day in the snow. They grew up to be perfectly nice adults. I hate the rain but there is nothing wrong with being out in it.

howlongtilsummer · 18/01/2024 15:36

Sounds great OP.

nosleepforme · 18/01/2024 15:38

Cute! Fun in the rain

goodgriefsean · 18/01/2024 15:39

The ex ortho nurse in me would think 'i fucking hate trampolines'. But she thinks that in the height of summer as well she's a right kill-joy.
As for out playing in the rain, crack on, my kids always loved getting soaked and jumping in puddles.

mambojambodothetango · 18/01/2024 15:40

DS loves his trampoline in the rain. Adds to the fun apparently.

whynotwhatknot · 18/01/2024 15:40

18 degrees is my perfect temp-good on her wont hurt

nosleepforme · 18/01/2024 15:40

Your neighbour sounds like a right pita

110APiccadilly · 18/01/2024 15:41

That fresh air and exercise are good for children and most don't get enough, isn't it great that this one seems to be.

Unless they were really inappropriately dressed for the weather or something.

SpringleDingle · 18/01/2024 15:46

Looks like fun!!

IchGlaubMeinSchweinPfeift · 18/01/2024 15:47

"ooh I should take my two ds out to do the same"

NoTouch · 18/01/2024 15:51

I am not keen on garden trampolines/especially unsupervised - so I would probably think with the additional slip factor from the rain it was an accident waiting to happen.

The rain wouldn't bother me as ds used to play football in the rain.

That is with the knowledge my NDN are your normal average everyday loving parents, but maybe just a bit less risk adverse than me!

loadedchips · 18/01/2024 13:04

Completely fine obviously

This… the rain won’t kill them

EmailAddress · 18/01/2024 16:11

I’d think you weren’t my neighbour when at a kids party when it was 30’ there wa a random rain storm which would have been awesome to cool off in, but everyone had to go inside so they didn’t get wet. Bonkers

Xmasbaby11 · 18/01/2024 16:12

With my kids, I would worry about a greater chance of slipping with the rain, if it was heavy rain. As a parent I'd probably watch / have a look to see if the trampoline became slippy when wet. If you're just talking about random kids, I wouldn't care tbh, I'd assume their own parents had decided it was fine.

I know your not supposed to use when wet hope they have a net a least they can be dangerous. Next door neighbours child broke his arm on a wet trampoline.

I had three nasty accidents as a child. Broke my arm very badly in four places. Cut my knee open right from one side to the other, exposing the entire joint. Broke two bones in my ankle.

The first accident happened when I was walking across our patio one summer evening. Had to have surgery to set the bones.

The second happened when I was playing in the meadow just behind our garden. That accident turned out to be a limb-threatening job; I still have a massive scar.

The third happened when I was standing on a tree stump that was, at most, about eight inches off the ground. Two bones broken.

So, honestly, I wouldn't actually be that worried about a kid slipping on a trampoline. Most physical activities or sports that kids do carry a risk of injury. Do you not them go on play equipment in the park etc? Accidentally falling off a low climbing frame or a swing could just as easily break an arm or ankle as slipping on a trampoline. It's pretty easy to break an arm just falling over, tbh (which is how I broke mine when I was a kid).

WonderLife · 18/01/2024 16:17

I would think they were a very high energy child and mum was about to have a breakdown if they didn't go outside Grin

SnowflakeSparkles · 18/01/2024 16:17

malmi · 18/01/2024 13:49

Personally I'd find it concerning for a few reasons but not really relevant to OP

Of course, everyone is in universal agreement until it's revealed that the OP is the mum and not the crotchety neighbour; then suddenly it's "concerning" 🙄

Thethingspeoplegetupto · 18/01/2024 16:19

@NoTouch She wasn’t unsupervised.

Running in the rain: carefree fun. Trampoline in the rain: broken bones.

Flamesatmytoes · 18/01/2024 16:26

Oh god, my southern European SIL thinks the cold makes you ill, rain can almost kill you, and god forbid both happen. If you’d seen the look on her face when we went to the park and it was MUDDY. Ignore

bouncing on a trampoline in the rain sounds awesome

Why? Bare feet would be fine. My kids put the sprinkler under ours in the summer.

Nonomono · 18/01/2024 16:28

When my DC was young I used to pour water on the trampoline to make it extra slippery.

It was so much fun and we had a lot of slips but that was part of the fun.

Next time go and join her, why should she have all the fun 😁

Tearsofamermaid · 18/01/2024 16:30

I would mind my own business!
