Child on trampoline in the rain

If you looked out of your window and saw the child next door to you, in the pouring rain, running in the garden and jumping on the trampoline, what would you think?

I’d have to call social services immediately, obviously.

pollymere · 20/01/2024 09:40

I'd be worried about them slipping but smiling at the memory of mine dancing in the rain.

zingally · 20/01/2024 10:04

Honestly, not much.

Maybe "a bit chilly for that!" Or "kids are weird."

EmeraldA129 · 20/01/2024 10:48

Op, I put YANBU after reading all your comments & realising it was your DC out on the trampoline in the rain.

just reading your initial post I assumed you were judging your neighbour for their DC being on their trampoline.

kids will play where they want to play & some rain won’t hurt them. It would be another story if you locked them out in the rain with nothing to do. My DN’s are often running out in the garden or on their trampoline when it is raining, then they come in & dry themselves off. Tell your neighbour to mind their own business & that they must be so old they’ve forgotten what it is like being young.

Tulipsinmyvase · 20/01/2024 11:00

I wouldn’t give it a second thought - it rains most days here

Bythefireside · 20/01/2024 11:43

Ive said how dangerous slippery trampolines are as a child I know broke their femur slipping on one - not falling off but slipping over, but nobody seems interested they’re all to busy saying the neighbour is interfering. I agree being out in the rain is no issue at all but wet trampolines are a terrible idea. But you’re right to be honest trampolines in general aren’t great.

Rain never stopped our little ones playing outside in paddling pool, trampoline, running about, they loved it! Short periods then warm towel wrap, supervised. The look of abandonment and fun on their faces, just brilliant xx

Sennelier1 · 20/01/2024 21:35

Unless that child is made of sugar I wouldn't interfere.

Staygoldponyboystaygold · 20/01/2024 22:38

@Thethingspeoplegetupto our mud room is a room at the back of the house off the kitchen. We keep wellies and coats in there, dc can take off wet/muddy clothes out there so the mud doesn’t come into the house. We deal with quite a bit of mud 😆

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 20/01/2024 23:06

Playing in the rain is a wonderful feeling. Advising them of the slipping risk is sensible, but otherwise let them enjoy it I think. I have fond memories of destroying my friends mum's lawn when we discovered you could do epic skids in the mud. Your neighbour must have very little going on in her own life to be so interested in yours. I'd just be laughing at her.

From my own, lived experience... Kids got autism or ADHD.

MustWeDoThis · 21/01/2024 05:07

I used to strip off and wrap myself in my Nan's, giant T-towels, stand in her garden, in the rain, and sing my lungs out to Kylie&Danny Monogue and Jason Donovan. I would then sit on my swing, sopping wet in a t-towel (large towel??) And carry on singing and munching on fresh cherries.

I am now 30 odd plus years older. I lived to tell the tale. I am now mortified.

steff13 · 21/01/2024 05:17

My daughter and I love to play in the rain. I've never considered what the neighbors might think.

T1Dmama · 21/01/2024 09:24

LOL to those saying how dangerous it is … “they ‘know’ someone who broke something!”….
We probably all ‘know’ someone that has hurt themselves in a freak accident, EVERY single thing we do carries a certain amount of risk, but if we didn’t take risks life would be dull!!
Everyone does realise you can actually buy special things for the trampoline that attaches round the top and sprays water onto it?… it’s great fun!!

Playing outside in the rain is fun…. It’s only water FGS, not acid!!…..

I’m taking my daughter horse riding tomorrow …. I expect we all either know someone that’s fallen off a horse or seen it on TV!… she also swims lots…. I know I know.. far too dangerous and there’s a risk of drowning! Shock horror, must make me a terrible neglectful mother!

Usernamechange1234 · 21/01/2024 09:26

I’d think good for them! My children play outside on the trampoline in ALL weathers. Sometimes it’s a fight to get them to wear the right clothes. But they love that thing. I’d rather that than them in playing Xbox!!!!!!

Absolutely! My son broke his shoulder on a trampoline. It was such an unlikely thing to happen but the poor lad was unlucky. The worst thing about it for him was he just couldn’t see why he couldn’t go back on the trampoline until it had healed 😂

Bythefireside · 21/01/2024 19:04

Not unusual at all trampoline injuries are so common

Not the break my son had, the doctor had never seen one before. Less than a 1% chance of it happening. He was the talk of A&E, we walked out to the other doctors gathered around the computer looking at his X-Ray. Fracture clinic were quite impressed too 😂

MisAvi · 23/01/2024 08:14

What fun! My kids and their friends have done this on a few occasions

Whatafustercluck · 23/01/2024 08:15

I'd smile that they were having a good time and not stuck inside gaming.

mammaCh · 23/01/2024 22:15

That they're having fun
