To never ever buy from Snag again?

I'm just beyond disgusted and feel I need to vent.

I've always liked snag tights. I bought vouchers to save them in Lockdown, have spent hundreds with them. Liked their products and ethos- inclusive and female led.

Yesterday I went on their website, can definitely say it's my fault that I clicked on their NSFW collection, but I didn't expect what I found. Patches saying ' chke me' and 'cMSL*t'. Maybe I'm just a pearl clutching prude but I found these really offensive and not what I expect from a company with their ethos. I've put a pic below.

I posted in their Facebook group which I'm on highlighting that I thought this was a misjudgement on their part, that these were very misogynistic, and fed into a culture of violence against women which claims the life of a woman or girl every 11 minutes.

They declined my post and sent me a reply which I'll attach- I'm kink shaming apparently.

I find this really reprehensible and never want to spend a penny with them again!

I never thought I was prudish, whatever adults do between themselves is up to them, but I don't really want to buy from a clothing provider who is promoting this- aibu!?

Do they sell tights for men's bodies and women's bodies and differentiate between them or are women supposed to wear tights designed with the male body in mind? If they are unisex I'd be worried that they wouldn't fit my female body properly.

I do wish this gender thing would go away to be honest as it seems a bit of a stick to beat women with in any context. The fact that men are invading our spaces has led to questions like 'there is nothing wrong with men wearing tights'. For the main there isn't, but if it impacts on the way that clothes are designed so that they no longer fit women properly then potentially that, and the fact that we know some men like to wear women's clothing for sexual gratification etc (which is fine so long as we are not forced to participate in it). The choke stuff is just vile. I don't care if that's kink shaming, violence against women should not be normalised.

The tights are designed for body shape, height and size.

This normalisation of sexual strangulation, that it is common, standard even, is massively problematic. It is not something that anyone should consider as anything other than incredibly dangerous.

Won't be buying from them anymore. I used to feel they were a safe space for women of any shape and size wanting to look their best and have comfort. They seemed like a fun company that didn't care about the over sexualised "norms" but this language is so derogatory. Its violence against women. Its objectiying.

Ergh I'm so tired of living in a world that's entirely under the male gaze.

Where are the patches for men? Where's sissy or cuckold husband or any of the derogatory pornified terms for men?

Bibbidybobbidyroo · 18/01/2024 11:38

I think there are a few things to consider here

OP for some reason went to their NSFW page which, from the opening page, is pretty obvious its not for the run of the mill tights. The NSFW site is not lined to their main website. You have to google it specifically.

Then clicked on 'Sexy Makers Market'.

Then scrolled all the way to the bottom to find some BDSM pins, and in pure outrage has come to Mumsnet where instead of having an intelligent conversation about kinks, normalisation of violence versus reclaiming words etc, we have instead been treated to lots of casual transphobia 'Lady dicks', some good ol fashion fat shaming and some total hyperbole where apparently now the whole site is male models with their dicks out and Snag are changing the tights to fit men and not women.

Please. PLEASE. A pinch of common sense for the love of god.

Goldenpashmina · 18/01/2024 10:48

The same as the difference between sex and rape. Same act - One is consensual and one is not, obviously.

You do realise some women enjoy it too?

It isn’t possible to consent to being killed. You need to explain the difference between those occasions where a woman says “choke me” and survives, and where a man claims a woman said “choke me” but she dies.

Common sense tells me that a company that responds to a woman's concerns about the objectification of women and the dangers of choking in the way Snag did to the OP is not a company that I, as a woman, would wish to purchase from when there are alternatives non anti-woman brands available.

Can someone kindly tell me what is so wrong with kink shaming?

Because what consenting adults do is none of your business?

Because where do we draw the line in policing adult activities?

No I don't. You need to explain why you can't fathom the obvious difference

Completely agree but why, oh why, do some people and companies want to MAKE it our business?

That's what people are objecting to. What consenting adults do is up to them. Snag is making badges to promote an activity which is harmful to women and girls. As a company that markets products to women that is a risky strategy. Women should not be expected to think its a good thing to promote strangulation of other women.

When peoples sex drive overrides their common sense maybe? If your friend died from being choked would you want their partner to be held accountable? Or the case of the men who chopped off a man's penis, leg and nipple with his consent for pay per view, is that actually consent is that assault would that have been murder had he died? Armen Meiwes was a German cannibal who found a willing victim, they initially argued consent was given so he wasn't convicted essentially legalising murder, then he did it again...

Where's the line?

That said I agree in principle what happens between adults is their business. But this company has made it out business.

ladyofshertonabbas · 18/01/2024 13:16

Snag tights hate women. They use men to advertise their wares.

Men can wear tights and historically have worn tights. I see nothing wrong with men advertising their products.

LimePi · 18/01/2024 13:18

@baubletits

some WOMEN have a choking kink.
are they not allowed to now?

your sister’s partner is irrelevant here because obviously kinks are ok between TWO consenting adults, and your sister wasn’t into this hence was not a consenting participant.

JaneJeffer · 18/01/2024 13:20

Edited

I mean thats an interesting example, because laws still exist. They broke the law with those acts. But true, some things do not exist in a vacuem.

I dont know see how Snag made it our business by having a separate website - Ann Summers also sells BDSM equipment. Did they make it our business too? What one woman may find totally acceptable, another wont. And thats completely right and her choice if she then decides that brand is not for her.

Notamum12345577 · 18/01/2024 09:06

Some women like being choked during sex, and the patches are aimed at women to buy. So allowing them to buy them, isn’t that part of ‘smashing the patriarchy’?

Maybe they do. But do they need to advertise to everyone with badges?

Would you want your child to ask you what a cum slut was because they'd read it on a badge stuck to someone's bag?

Do what you fucking like in private. I don't need to know about it. I don't care about it. Woohoo, you have sex. So edgy and different. Guess how you were conceived. 🙄

tty · 18/01/2024 13:34

I can't find what you are talking about anywhere on their website?

tty · 18/01/2024 13:37

Ok so these aren't on their normal website but a completely separate website that's literally called nsfw and these aren't even made by snag but in their 'makers market'. It's not pushing anything down anyones throat you have literally gone onto a kink website shop 🤣

ManyATrueWord · 18/01/2024 13:59

We aren't talking about "kinks", we are talking about perversions. Pushing perversion as normal.

emsiewun · 18/01/2024 14:14

Is this company connected to Popsy? Some of their marketing methods found similar.

I think the normalising of choking is a horrible thing. There can't be much profit in them even. You couldn't possibly wear these patches in public.

I guess customers do.
