To never ever buy from Snag again?

I'm just beyond disgusted and feel I need to vent.

I've always liked snag tights. I bought vouchers to save them in Lockdown, have spent hundreds with them. Liked their products and ethos- inclusive and female led.

Yesterday I went on their website, can definitely say it's my fault that I clicked on their NSFW collection, but I didn't expect what I found. Patches saying ' chke me' and 'cMSL*t'. Maybe I'm just a pearl clutching prude but I found these really offensive and not what I expect from a company with their ethos. I've put a pic below.

I posted in their Facebook group which I'm on highlighting that I thought this was a misjudgement on their part, that these were very misogynistic, and fed into a culture of violence against women which claims the life of a woman or girl every 11 minutes.

They declined my post and sent me a reply which I'll attach- I'm kink shaming apparently.

I find this really reprehensible and never want to spend a penny with them again!

I never thought I was prudish, whatever adults do between themselves is up to them, but I don't really want to buy from a clothing provider who is promoting this- aibu!?

The tights for men aren't fetishwear and are on the normal site. Why shouldn't men wear tights? Especially wool ones for hiking that's a really good idea.
It doesn't equate with some sexual thing for men to wear tights..
This op is both kink shaming by going onto a site that sells fetishwear and saying it shouldnt because she thinks that fetish is disgusting.....and managing to be sexist and weirdly fetishizing tights themselves on the main site by suggesting if they are worn by men it somehow becomes sexually deviant.

Thank god for someone else with some sanity.

NotMyTights · 17/01/2024 22:07

@Doublethecookies I've addressed your other points above I think but I want to clarify I never personally said anything about tights being sexually deviant on men.
I feel like I can't really say that put me off as I bought half their Jamie collection.
I wanted tights, I was quite happy to see (even sexy tights) on any kind of body, I however was not happy at all to see misogynistic slogans designed to be worn.
Did not think tights company NSFW = fetish site. Colour me surprised.

How vile , thanks for the heads up op

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 17/01/2024 22:46

I did buy from them once but found the sizing bizarre. Then they started focusing on men and I have to say I turned off from that point. There is far more choice out there. Leave Snag to the fetishists.

Princessfluffy · 18/01/2024 07:05

I've always had huge issues with stock from Snag. Either I can't order what I want as it's out of stock or I order it and then they don't send it as it's out of stock.

Promoting choking is in my opinion dangerous, irresponsible and misogynistic. I'm delighted with the suggestion for an alternative company to use.

Bibbidybobbidyroo · 17/01/2024 17:17

Please search before you create yet ANOTHER post about Snag that always ends up either getting zapped or just becoming really vile.

I suggest Better Tights as an alternative.

The end.

I'm glad she posted, I wasn't aware of their new products at all. I've been meaning to order a few new pairs of tights from Snag but I'll be avoiding them like the plague now.

baubletits · 18/01/2024 07:47

Goldenpashmina · 17/01/2024 19:35

Goodness me there must be more worthy causes for you to direct your indignation towards? It was something you literally directed yourself towards that was clearly labelled NSFW!

If you don't like the product, don't buy it. You are kink shaming. Consenting adults can buy this stuff if they like.

I buy from snag and will continue to do so. I've no interest in bdsm and their NSFW stuff but I definitely don't begrudge others purchasing it and snag selling it.

Men strangling women is not a "kink"

This is my experience too. I now buy from Better tights.

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 18/01/2024 08:06

Popsy also do brilliant tights, they fit really well and loads of colours. I prefer them to Snag.

Lulalola · 18/01/2024 08:17

@Wanna17 What an imaginative response. Whatever anyones feelings are about that site, as I said the thread is an eye opener to what this company are really like and what they support

According to who? You and I both know it is, whether you like it or not

I "know it is"?

When my sister's partner flattened her against the bed and had his hands around her throat strangling her in a drug induced rage, you think that was his "kink"? You have serious problems if you think that.

Boomboom22 · 18/01/2024 08:38

Anyone on twitter should reply to her smash the patriarchy comment asking how condoning choking fits in with that. It's the usual corporate bullshit, pretend to care about women and also tw and bdsm to get all the business. If she really cared about the patriarchy she wouldn't take her business in this direction. Similar to Michelle mone in morals perhaps.

Princessfluffy · 18/01/2024 08:41

One woman is killed by her male partner every two weeks in the UK by strangulation. But god forbid these men might feel shamed. We need to be talking about the normalisation of strangulation of women by men a whole lot more in my opinion.

You are being deliberately obtuse if you cannot see the difference between an assault and a consensual sexual act

Edited for autocorrect

RobinEllacotStrike · 18/01/2024 08:58

Snag are clearly Horrible misogynists who make great tights.

This is where "liberal" "feminism" takes us.

I use Better Tights now too.

RobinEllacotStrike · 18/01/2024 09:02

@Goldenpashmina do explain the difference between strangulation that routinely kills women ("but she begged me to strangle her my Lord, she loved it") and strangulation that gets a bloke off?

Notamum12345577 · 18/01/2024 09:06

Some women like being choked during sex, and the patches are aimed at women to buy. So allowing them to buy them, isn’t that part of ‘smashing the patriarchy’?

MoltenLasagne · 18/01/2024 09:11

I stopped buying Snag when their marketing went from demonstrating they are for all sizes and fits, to what feels like a fetishisation of larger women. It was a shift from normal catalogue photo angles when they used to have photos of all sizes to a soft porn aesthetic that made it feel seedy.

I'm glad I've not bought them in years seeing those patches. Normalising choking whilst supposedly fighting the patriarchy? Pull the other one. So many teenage girls are now growing up being told that "all the other girls loved it" and Snag are complicit in that.

Mochudubh · 18/01/2024 09:26

I'm in my 50s and had never heard the term NSFW before and a few other posters seem to agree. So while I may have led a sheltered life I don't think it's fair to say "It was labelled NSFW, what did you expect"? The OP seems to have known and clicked on it accidentally but many others wouldn't know.

I'm glad I didn't Google as I AM at work.

Erm...no?

If I like being paid less than a man, consent to be paid less than a man and choose that- then I'm not smashing the patriarchy am I!?

Like it, buy it, whatever; but don't act like just by making a choice alone you are somehow sticking it to the establishment.

MothersofGorgons · 18/01/2024 09:40

I never buy from anyone that claims to smash the patriarchy. It's become a meaningless term, used by people who do the opposite.

I agree about the soft porn aesthetic of Snag. I can never work out what the tights will look like in a normal setting- in my office for instance-given all the models are pouting or have their legs in the air, or thrusting their derrieres, or styled in a very unattractive manner... I guess I am not their audience. My Snag tights snagged anyway, so no incentive.

I wonder if in a few years time, they will be apologising like Boden, having alienated most of their buyers.

lifeturnsonadime · 18/01/2024 10:34

Do they sell tights for men's bodies and women's bodies and differentiate between them or are women supposed to wear tights designed with the male body in mind? If they are unisex I'd be worried that they wouldn't fit my female body properly.

I do wish this gender thing would go away to be honest as it seems a bit of a stick to beat women with in any context. The fact that men are invading our spaces has led to questions like 'there is nothing wrong with men wearing tights'. For the main there isn't, but if it impacts on the way that clothes are designed so that they no longer fit women properly then potentially that, and the fact that we know some men like to wear women's clothing for sexual gratification etc (which is fine so long as we are not forced to participate in it). The choke stuff is just vile. I don't care if that's kink shaming, violence against women should not be normalised.

The same as the difference between sex and rape. Same act - One is consensual and one is not, obviously.

You do realise some women enjoy it too?

Carsarelife · 18/01/2024 10:56

Grim. Won't buy from snag anymore
