To never ever buy from Snag again?

I'm just beyond disgusted and feel I need to vent.

I've always liked snag tights. I bought vouchers to save them in Lockdown, have spent hundreds with them. Liked their products and ethos- inclusive and female led.

Yesterday I went on their website, can definitely say it's my fault that I clicked on their NSFW collection, but I didn't expect what I found. Patches saying ' chke me' and 'cMSL*t'. Maybe I'm just a pearl clutching prude but I found these really offensive and not what I expect from a company with their ethos. I've put a pic below.

I posted in their Facebook group which I'm on highlighting that I thought this was a misjudgement on their part, that these were very misogynistic, and fed into a culture of violence against women which claims the life of a woman or girl every 11 minutes.

They declined my post and sent me a reply which I'll attach- I'm kink shaming apparently.

I find this really reprehensible and never want to spend a penny with them again!

I never thought I was prudish, whatever adults do between themselves is up to them, but I don't really want to buy from a clothing provider who is promoting this- aibu!?

I haven't been on the Snag site for a long time so it may have changed, but I have absolutely seen numerous images of men in their products,

They have definitely changed their target audience over the last few years,

LimePi · 17/01/2024 21:03

Sorry you ARE kink shaming
its not your job to police what other women find arousing
Jesus, the woke police now going after sexual fantasies 🤦‍♀️

Presumably I'm "dressed like a man" right now as I'm in tracksuit bottoms and my husband's hoodie.
If a man wants to wear rights, why not? To this day, Tim Curry in fishnets in Rocky Horror is one of the most wondrous sights I've ever seen.

Tim Curry in lipstick, fishnets and a corset was an absolute revelation.

This and two others like this are the only pictures of me I can find on their main and nsfw websites.

It must be the social media (which I don’t do, because it’s universally full of rubbish).

Yuck. Thanks for the heads up OP. I spent all day hoiking up my snag tights that my mum got me to try. Will try Better Tights next!

I actually think these are pretty cool. Not fetishy, but I admit I'm not an expert in that area so maybe I'm missing some sort of terrible deviance.

@Flickersy

Those are definitely not the type of pictures I'm referring to. Agree that those are pretty cool!

Gotta say, I’ve gone right off them recently. Their glamourising of extremely fat models sits very poorly with them, along with their constant cry of ‘no size is the wrong size’ mantra. They actively promote morbidly obese women which nobody can say is healthy. I say this as someone overweight, I’m not sitting here looking like a mainstream model!

This nsfw, particularly the ‘choke me’ patch is appalling. Bye bye, Snag! Not getting another penny from me. 🤬

Snag aren't saying very fat women are "healthy" they're simply acknowledging that they exist and need clothes to wear.
The idea of "promoting" obesity is ridiculous. I say this as someone who is overweight. I've never looked at pics of Tess Halliday and thought "oh that's okay then, she's much fatter than me" or "sure would like to be as fat as she is!".
If you think "no size is the wrong size" is a fallacy, what do you think is the "right" size? Or is there a "right" range? And how does that translate between a 4ft 8ins woman and a 6ft 4ins woman?
The reality is that fat women and very fat women exist and they buy clothes.
If a company sell clothes that fit those fat bodies, it's reasonable that people with a fat body see what those clothes might look like on their body.
I'm a size 18 (and 6ft; desperately hoping that's the "right" size) and when I buy some jeans a pic of Kate Moss doesn't really show me what those jeans might look like on me, but a model who's a size 14 or a size 20 gives me a much more reasonable idea. I hadn't realise that seeing a woman with a big bum and a big tum looking happy in her pants made the size 10s of this world dash out to buy KFC and lard.

@All2Well @Bibbidybobbidyroo - thank you!

To be honest, I wouldn't have known that meant stuff like 'choke me'. I'd have thought crotchless tights 🙈

EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS! 😆 obviously I'm just too vanilla

Not allowed to link it here but I suggest looking at the snag thread on tattle to see what this company are really like and what they support

Why would anyone want to go anywhere near the vile, cesspit that is tattle?

Doublethecookies · 17/01/2024 21:20

The tights for men aren't fetishwear and are on the normal site. Why shouldn't men wear tights? Especially wool ones for hiking that's a really good idea.
It doesn't equate with some sexual thing for men to wear tights..
This op is both kink shaming by going onto a site that sells fetishwear and saying it shouldnt because she thinks that fetish is disgusting.....and managing to be sexist and weirdly fetishizing tights themselves on the main site by suggesting if they are worn by men it somehow becomes sexually deviant.

DarkRipePlum · 17/01/2024 21:23

I don’t want to buy from them anymore either - can anyone suggest an alternative to their chub rub shorts? They’re fab for under dresses in the summer.

nevermind, just realised better tights do them too and not just tights. Yay!

forgivingfiggy · 17/01/2024 21:29

Happy to kink shame if it means that shite like 'choke me' badges don't become normalised by society.

Domestic violence charities state that a woman who is choked by her partner has a vastly increased chance of being murdered by him. It's one of the first questions they ask to assess risk in a DV situation. I'm not happy with my daughters growing up thinking that a bit of choking is totally fine and something the cool girls do.

RaininSummer · 17/01/2024 21:30

Urgg. Snag are vile now.

At what point did I say that?! They use morbidly obese models and promote this size as ‘normal’. Imo, completely the wrong message. Very poor practice.

No they don't, they're not the bleedin' NHS. They are just using models that represent their target market, duh!

Doublethecookies · 17/01/2024 20:56

@Flickersy honestly I think some people just live to be outraged...
you wouldn't walk into a fetishwear store and then demand it be closed down because it offends you.. I mean wtf?
whyis it any different on the Internet? Go to a site that clearly says NSFW and sells sexualised clothing and then get offended by what you saw. Ridiculous.

I would totally understand if I had gone to Love Honey or to a fetish outlet. To be clear I know people have kinks and fetishes in their private lives and there will be many things on sale I would probably be mystified and horrified by! I'm not demanding a puritanical revolution where it is banned from sale.

I know some women are into submission or certain fantasies of control- but I totally don't agree with sexualising violence towards women being perpetuated, made mainstream or normalised. If that is kink shaming then fine, guilty as charged, I don't find glamourising abusing and killing women sexy and if you do I think you should keep that to yourself.

However again, I was looking at the NSFW section on an inclusive Female CEO led tights company, that I previously loved to use to dress like an Eccentric primary school teacher, who only today were hashtagging #smashthepatriarchy - it was not at all what I was expecting to find.

I'd be horrified if LoveHoney were selling 'choke me' merchandise too @NotMyTights - it's not 'just a kink'. It's a frightening shift in misogyny and violence.

Where is the link to the nsfw site on the normal site? I’m looking but I can’t find it.

NotMyTights · 17/01/2024 21:36

Look, I'm not going to comment on the men or the size of the models. I just don't want to derail this or dilute the message when I am specifically talking about violence towards women.

I'm really grateful for some women on this thread who have shared their own traumatic experiences and I'm so sorry and also so in awe of your strength to be able to be so candid to highlight why this is a real issue.

It was admittedly not a direct link- on their community page it links to the Instagram and FB page for the NSFW area- I clicked through to the Instagram and the link in bio but didn't actually see the images because of how it loaded in the browser. I wasn't actually looking for this, just idly browsing and curious!

Below are two posts from their Instagram: what I expected Vs what I didn't!

Thanks for all the Better Tights recommendations. I've bought from Snag quite a lot in the past but nope, I don't like those stickers one little bit. Better tights looks great and they'll be getting my money in the future.

thecrispfiend · 17/01/2024 21:59

That is absolutely disgusting, I will definitely not be buying from them again thanks for highlighting x
