The abdominal surgery must have been pretty huge to expect a fortnight stay in hospital. I had a total gastrectomy and total vagotomy and only stayed ten days.

I mean 4 days longer isn't that much is it? poor woman can't even have an operation in peace.

TeenDivided · 17/01/2024 16:09

Maybe they have overestimated on purpose to keep press at bay / allow for quick exit when discharged.

Good idea!

IncompleteSenten · 17/01/2024 16:12

Maybe that's the difference between private and NHS or royal treatment and the rest of us. Maybe they just get a little extra time and tlc?

Lampzade · 17/01/2024 16:15

Hysterectomy??

Oh stop it! Leave her alone, she doesn't
need your speculation!

You are very naive if you think that people will not speculate.
It goes with the territory I am afraid

Mrsjayy · 17/01/2024 16:25

I am assuming it's some sort of protocol why her operation/hospital stay has been reported but we don't really need to know, its a private hospital I'm sure she will be in to recuperate and rest.

Zanatdy · 17/01/2024 16:27

I had a whipple, major pancreatic surgery and it was 10-14 days (I stayed for 21) so yes this isn’t a hysterectomy or appendix removal. Respect her right not to disclose though

NotSorry · 17/01/2024 16:31

I had a bowel blockage and I was in for nearly 2 weeks

NeptunaOfTheMermaidBattleSquadron · 17/01/2024 16:33

I'd imagine she will only be in as long as she needs to, like anyone else. She was straight out after having her babies. Hope she's okay. 💐

SoupDragon · 17/01/2024 16:34

The report I read said the palace had said it was planned and that they wouldn't be releasing any further details due to privacy. They also said it wasn't cancer though.

it does seem a long stay - I hope she recovers quickly!

Ormside · 17/01/2024 16:38

I wasn't fishing to find out I was simply expressing concern. For a planned surgery it seemed a long predicted stay. I've had several major abdominal operations and have a life limiting condition, the only ones I stayed that length and longer were for very emergent reasons.

Of course they’ll say she’s expecting to be in hospital in for two weeks. It wouldn’t surprise me if she’s not secretly taken back home to avoid the press pack. Imagine all the nutters hanging round outside the hospital, in the freezing cold, for the next two weeks! 😂

Boomer55 · 17/01/2024 17:06

Apparently it’s a hysterectomy. This does take some recovery time, but if you have servants, Nannies and chefs, it’s obviously easier than it is for most women.

GCAcademic · 17/01/2024 17:08

You don’t stay in hospital for 10 days following a hysterectomy. I was in for four days after having an abdominal hysterectomy, in a private hospital, and I wouldn’t have actually wanted to stay any longer anyway.

Thanks for letting us know, did kate message you directly? Ask her if I can drop anything up to her?

It sounds as though you are close enough to her to have this on good authority.

What a shame that she can't trust those close to her to respect her privacy.

skippy67 · 17/01/2024 17:17

She's had the op. In peace.

bessytedsy · 17/01/2024 17:22

I would guess Royals get different treatment?

SummaLuvin · 17/01/2024 17:23

what's your 'am I being unreasonable'?

edwinbear · 17/01/2024 17:26

It could be anything really couldn’t it and we obviously don’t need to know, I’m sure everyone hopes she recovers quickly. FWIW I was in a private hospital for 10 days after an anterior and posterior propose repair, followed by 6 weeks bed rest and not fully recovered for 3-6 months. Horrible recovery that was, hope it’s not that!

KimberleyClark · 17/01/2024 17:30

Perhaps she’s had an ovarian cyst. The treatment for those is usually to whip the whole lot out. I wish her a speedy recovery.

Don’t be ridiculous, they don’t “whip everything out” for an ovarian cyst 😂 Cystectomy is done laparoscopically, removing just the cyst, and you can go home the next day usually.
