The abdominal surgery must have been pretty huge to expect a fortnight stay in hospital. I had a total gastrectomy and total vagotomy and only stayed ten days.

No one's in for ten days to a fortnight for a hysterectomy. The Queen was out in 4 days after one, then recuperated at home.

I think at the time the Queen had a private Dr and nurses at home I saw something on TV about it.

Sidebeforeself · 18/01/2024 15:16

Well I had seven legs removed and was only in for ten minutes so something must be really wrong with her. FFS ..how on earth is it relevant how long other people stayed in hospital for and, as far as we know, what could be wildly different procedures.

Kate - if you are reading this I hope it doesn’t hurst too much when you laugh at some of the stupid comments on here!

Perhaps she’s had an ovarian cyst. The treatment for those is usually to whip the whole lot out. I wish her a speedy recovery.

No, it isn't.

I have an ovarian cyst. It's being monitored. It may disappear, increase in size, decrease in size or remain the same size. Its characteristics on ultrasound suggest it is very low risk. There has been no discussion about "whipping the whole lot out" despite the fact that I have large post menopausal fibroids and have had a thickened endometrial lining which has been reversed using medroxyprogesterone. I have no wish to have "the whole lot out" for any reason other than cancer, while there remain viable, conservative alternatives.

Grandmasswag · 18/01/2024 15:37

Its obvious she must be detoxing off hard drugs to be in for that long. I expect she’s managed to keep her addiction hidden thanks to all the cooks/nanny’s.

KimberleyClark · 17/01/2024 18:02

Well a friend had one, admittedly a few years back now and had the whole lot out.

The current NICE Guidance is that hysterectomy should be offered as a last resort in many gynae conditions (unless a patient specifically wants a hysterectomy).

Reported!

guineverehadgreeneyes · 18/01/2024 15:41

I don't know why so many posters in these threads are so focussed on it being a hysterectomy. There are many organs and structures within the abdomen.

Grandmasswag · 18/01/2024 15:48

Ha. You might want to go through the 40 page thread and report that. She’s been diagnosed with all manner of physical ailments, an eating disorder and god knows what else. It’s utterly pathetic. Who actually cares ? It’s abdo surgery and she’s probably staying in for a nice recuperation and break in a lovely private hospital that’s like a hotel. I have no idea why anyone needs to discuss it so much.

AlanRickmanAdmirer · 18/01/2024 15:48

Back in the 80s, it was normal to spend 2 weeks in NHS hospitals following caesarean section or hysterectomy, for example. The private sector hasn’t had to make swingeing cuts like the NHS has, hence…

TheChosenTwo · 18/01/2024 15:50

Why bbc thought this was breaking news I have no idea. Didn’t know she was having an operation and don’t very much care - anyone interested in knowing my neighbour went in for an operation last week? Nope, didn’t think so 😂

TorroFerney · 18/01/2024 15:50

i suppose an advantage royal means you don’t waste spend your time on social media as you’d just be reading about yourself.

you would I’d imagine feel quite vulnerable as there’s nothing to stop someone in the hospital or on the staff taking a photo and selling it to foreign media of you or telling family members about her nightwear. I’m thinking I’ve seen a photo of her at George’s football match on Instagram obviously taken sneakily by a parent.

WildFlowerBees · 18/01/2024 15:52

I do wish those in the public eye had the privacy to have these sorts of things done in private without having to disclose any information at all. What does it say about us as a society when a personal matter is made public and then all the speculation. Why do we care really? It has absolutely nothing to do with any of us.

Comedycook · 18/01/2024 15:54

They may have over estimated the time she'll be out in to manage expectations. I mean if they said she'll be out in seven days and she was out in eight, everyone would be speculating as to why she's still in hospital. Whereas if they say two weeks and she's out in eight days, then you avoid that speculation.

What really has surprised me is the length of time she's said to be taking to recuperate....until Easter. That seems a very long time.

The royal family aren't just any old private citizens....and Kate actively chose to be a part of it

She and her husband are shirkers at the best of times so any excuse I suppose.

2023forme · 18/01/2024 15:58

No idea but what made me laugh was a newspaper headline about William “juggling childcare with Royal Duties” or words to that effect. Yeah right - he’ll be WFH or popping out from opening a Youth Centre to pick the DC up from school 🤣🤣🤣

gettingbackonit23 · 18/01/2024 16:02

Why does everyone assume a hysterectomy? Just because she's female doesn't meant that's the only type of abdominal surgery she could possibly have. As others have said, it doesn't have that length of recovery time and she has so much support at home that surely she would prefer to be discharged asap.

hellsBells246 · 18/01/2024 16:06

Boomer55 · 17/01/2024 17:06

Apparently it’s a hysterectomy. This does take some recovery time, but if you have servants, Nannies and chefs, it’s obviously easier than it is for most women.

How do you know?!

couiza · 18/01/2024 16:06

I reckon the woman had her procedure two weeks ago (Any sign of her since Christmas?), and has just arrived at her humble 4 bed house to be taken care of by her husband and staff, out of the glare of the press.

Great diversionary tactics and probably a good move on their part if this is what happened.

How long her MIL was in for is not at all relevant.

oakleaffy · 18/01/2024 16:07

Well if one 'Has' to be in a hospital, a nice quiet private one, where one will get the very best of treatments will be far preferable to an NHS ward with hollering dementia patients, or men trying to climb into your bed, or generalised noise.

Expect it will be more like a luxurious hotel.

tkwal · 18/01/2024 16:16

Don’t be ridiculous, they don’t “whip everything out” for an ovarian cyst 😂 Cystectomy is done laparoscopically, removing just the cyst, and you can go home the next day usually.
Thanks

Well.....I have an ovarian cyst and it's still there because I refused to let the surgeon remove both ovaries "because you don't need them any more and you'll probably get another cyst on the opposite side eventually anyway"

RomeoMcFlourish · 18/01/2024 13:49

A tummy tuck!? Doubt it. She’s amazingly slim and athletically built, doubt she has much tummy to tuck!

What is 'amazing' is her self control to restrict eating.

I know people can say we'd all be slim with chefs cooking a vast array of different tasty, low calorie dishes but to be honest I'd still find it hard not to eat crisps and chocolate.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/01/2024 16:19

I don't understand the big hoo haa. It is headline news that William has gone to visit and he's taking time off to juggle childcare and hospital visits. Who cares quite frankly

Not really. I've got endometriosis in ovarian cysts and it's not that simple. Why would you remove everything!
