Worst customer service ever at Asda

I bought something to drink from Asda last week for me and my friends. We tried it and didn’t like it - some left in glasses.
I tried to return the (admittedly empty) bottle, not thinking to put the remaining liquid back in the bottle before trying to get a refund on the try me love me policy they claim to stand by.
I ended up speaking to a manager (after having to ask the service desk employee not to call me “my love” as I find it patronising and extremely rude. The manager listened to me and said that if I brought back what was left he would reconsider a refund. I did tell him that I realised I should have poured what was left back in the bottle but it smelled so foul, i couldn’t bear to smell it again.
I returned on Monday and the service desk employee opened the bottle to smell the drink and poured it back in after not finding I’d tampered with it and left a sticky mess all over the bottle.
She went to get a manager (different person from last week) who, before even listening to me, said that she stood by last week’s decision still stood. I asked her why she didn’t even listen to me and she couldn’t answer.
I have emailed Asda head office and I’m waiting to hear back from them.

You want to return a completely empty bottle
of something for a refund?

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 17/01/2024 15:01

You seriously took back an opened drink that you’d tried and was therefore missing content and you thought you’d be given a refund?!

Makeitmakesensetoday · 17/01/2024 15:01

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Pippa12 · 17/01/2024 15:02

I’m confused, you returned an empty bottle and want a refund? I must be missing something here?

araiwa · 17/01/2024 15:02

You should ask mn to delete 'service' in your title

As if you could get a refund on an empty bottle

Pippa12 · 17/01/2024 15:03

@araiwa made me laugh that!

You did what!!!😐

Sparklesocks · 17/01/2024 15:07

Eh? So what did you put in the bottle for the second attempt at a return?

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 17/01/2024 15:09

That's madness. Of course you can't expect them to know you actually have the drink in a glass at home, if you actually did. You've expended a lot of time and energy trying to get your £1.50 or whatever back, surely you'd just write it off to experience? I sometimes buy things to try and don't like them, that's not the drink's fault!

Pippa12 · 17/01/2024 15:09

The last bit doesn’t make sense, about you not tampering with the bottle etc? Are you saying you tipped back in old drink that had been decanted then took it back days later saying it smelled?

Honestly I’d just let it go, you didn’t like it, don’t buy again?

EauNeu · 17/01/2024 15:10

What was it?

Ladyj84 · 17/01/2024 15:12

Some left in glasses but not much by the sound of it yet you want a refund. Funniest post I've read today. I bet you gave asda a laugh because you actually sound ridiculous. Try it doesn't mean drink most of the bottle then ask for a refund

Wheresthefibre · 17/01/2024 15:13

The last bit didn’t even make sense.

You didn’t pour the contents back in but a week later you did have the contents?

Or you just poured something else in? Just so you could get one over on the manager?

BintuBombatu · 17/01/2024 15:13

Could you actually be arsed?

Banquet · 17/01/2024 15:15

wtf!!!

NewYearNewCake · 17/01/2024 15:16

How much was this bottle of drink? Was it worth the 2 trips getting to Asda? I’d let it go.

ScierraDoll · 17/01/2024 15:16

FFS get a life

helpfulperson · 17/01/2024 15:17

Presumably it was an asda brand product as only those are covered by try me love me. I can see why they would want you to return the rest to stop people eating/drinking it all then asking for money back but I would have thought drinks might be an exception.

Allofaflutter · 17/01/2024 15:18

If they advertise a love it or bring it back policy they should refund. Go to another branch

LumpyPumpkin · 17/01/2024 15:18

I will personally refund you if you promise not to waste customer service staff time with this sort of utter nonsense ever again.

lightinthebox · 17/01/2024 15:19

Read the entire post and still struggling to make sense of it.

Customer service were right not to refund. I work in a supermarket and we repeatedly had a customer open packets, consume some, then try and get a refund. Eventually manager sternly told the customer he won’t be offering more refunds.

Unless the item is faulty, expecting a refund simply because you didn’t like it is ridiculous. Imagine if everyone did that?

notenoughcaffeine · 17/01/2024 15:20

This is a joke surely 😂

Nanny0gg · 17/01/2024 15:21

I ended up speaking to a manager (after having to ask the service desk employee not to call me “my love” as I find it patronising and extremely rude.

Being told to 'Fuck off you chancer' is extremely rude.

Find a better hill to die on.

Allofaflutter · 17/01/2024 15:21

I thought the policy was for this exact thing. Try and if you don’t like it bring it back.
