Worst customer service ever at Asda

I bought something to drink from Asda last week for me and my friends. We tried it and didn’t like it - some left in glasses.
I tried to return the (admittedly empty) bottle, not thinking to put the remaining liquid back in the bottle before trying to get a refund on the try me love me policy they claim to stand by.
I ended up speaking to a manager (after having to ask the service desk employee not to call me “my love” as I find it patronising and extremely rude. The manager listened to me and said that if I brought back what was left he would reconsider a refund. I did tell him that I realised I should have poured what was left back in the bottle but it smelled so foul, i couldn’t bear to smell it again.
I returned on Monday and the service desk employee opened the bottle to smell the drink and poured it back in after not finding I’d tampered with it and left a sticky mess all over the bottle.
She went to get a manager (different person from last week) who, before even listening to me, said that she stood by last week’s decision still stood. I asked her why she didn’t even listen to me and she couldn’t answer.
I have emailed Asda head office and I’m waiting to hear back from them.

They were probably suspicious that given you had brought a bottle in that was empty, you then miraculously brought a bottle back with something in it. Were your glasses still sat at home with the leftover drink in it, in order for you to pour it back in? I thought it smelled so bad you couldn't bear it? So why did you keep it around?

So many questions. So much oddness.

I don't think I'm following.

It smelled foul so you couldn't face pouring it back in the bottle but you could face leaving it in open glasses for several days?

Apparently so Confused

Finbrek · 17/01/2024 15:41

TBF they've stated you can get a refund if you don't love it. No further stipulation. So all one need do is not love a product and one can get one's money back. It's asdas own stupid policy. If they can't be fucked to write something that's realistic why should OP have to fanny about arguing whether a bottle is half full or not. Although it does sound like someone's been enjoying whatever was in the damn bottle a bit too much.

SemperIdem · 17/01/2024 15:42

I’d be surprised if any supermarket would refund on alcohol, certainly the one I worked at (one of the big 5) had a clearly stated policy that they would not.

Perhapsanorhertimewouldbebetter · 17/01/2024 15:43

Are you not from the UK? It's not common policy for items like drinks to be refunded once you've open and tried it, unless the maker has put some sort of 'like it or your money back' offer on it.

Jovacknockowitch · 17/01/2024 15:44

guessmyage11 · 17/01/2024 15:39

🤣🤣🤣

When I worked in a pub people would oddly drink nearly all their drink before deciding there was something mysteriously wrong with it.......

QWE96 · 17/01/2024 15:45

I worked in an ASDA when I was at uni and a similar customer service situation happened - a lady tried bringing back the box of an entire cake she/her party had eaten, claiming it was dry, for a refund. So many stories of pathetically funny lengths people will go to for money.

LakeTiticaca · 17/01/2024 15:49

I worked for one of the Big Four and they had a similar policy. The vast majority of customers who brought things back had always managed to consume the entire product, and just brought the empty packaging back. One bloke did it every week until the manager banned him 🤣

Christmaslights21 · 17/01/2024 15:49

I HAVE read your entire post, I am embarrassed for you!

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 17/01/2024 15:49

Next time I’m in a restaurant I’m going to eat the full meal and then refuse to pay as it wasn’t suited to my taste 🙃

Magenta82 · 17/01/2024 15:50

I've read the ENTIRE post and I still think you are CF chancer who clearly has nothing better to do.

MK19590 · 17/01/2024 15:52

Hahahaa I had to read this 3 times to check I'd understood it properly why are you getting a refund for an empty bottle

DottieMoon · 17/01/2024 15:54

You are completely ridiculous. I feel bad for the people in Asda who had to deal with you, hilarious as it might be!

AlwaysGinPlease · 17/01/2024 15:55

You need to edit the title OP, to Worst customer in Asda.

Asda products DO have this on them…

Christmascarrots · 17/01/2024 15:58

If they offer that guarantee they should honour it. I don’t see why you should have to return with the product, are they seriously expecting people to come back in store with last weeks half eaten lasagna, frozen chips or bottles of drink.
They probably count in the fact most people wouldn’t bother to do it, but doesn’t mean they shouldn’t.

cornflower21 · 17/01/2024 15:59

Ha, ha op, that's funny, thanks for cheering me up.;)

Dibilnik · 17/01/2024 16:00

INeedAnotherName · 17/01/2024 16:00

Out of curiosity what was the drink? Some of us might like to avoid a foul smelling one.

Applebeard · 17/01/2024 16:01

Was it Frosty Jack's?

gamerchick · 17/01/2024 16:02

Thanks for the chuckle OP.

*There are people who actually do this. Too.much time on their hands imo.
