Worst customer service ever at Asda

I bought something to drink from Asda last week for me and my friends. We tried it and didn’t like it - some left in glasses.
I tried to return the (admittedly empty) bottle, not thinking to put the remaining liquid back in the bottle before trying to get a refund on the try me love me policy they claim to stand by.
I ended up speaking to a manager (after having to ask the service desk employee not to call me “my love” as I find it patronising and extremely rude. The manager listened to me and said that if I brought back what was left he would reconsider a refund. I did tell him that I realised I should have poured what was left back in the bottle but it smelled so foul, i couldn’t bear to smell it again.
I returned on Monday and the service desk employee opened the bottle to smell the drink and poured it back in after not finding I’d tampered with it and left a sticky mess all over the bottle.
She went to get a manager (different person from last week) who, before even listening to me, said that she stood by last week’s decision still stood. I asked her why she didn’t even listen to me and she couldn’t answer.
I have emailed Asda head office and I’m waiting to hear back from them.

I think the title's wrong. It should be:

Worst customer service ever at Asda

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/01/2024 16:06

TBH seems like rather a fuss about not very much.

Worst I’ve seen in Asda, while I was queueing at the checkout, was an old chap asking a member of staff where he could find Dijon mustard.

’Oh, we don’t stock that any more,’ and she scooted off.

I was, WTF??
Whether it was a case of CBA or she had just never heard of it I don’t know, but I happened to be near the right aisle and within seconds had pointed out to the old chap at least 2 varieties of it!

Bellsandthistle · 17/01/2024 16:07

They probably would have refunded you if you had been polite.

You should ask mn to delete 'service' in your title

As if you could get a refund on an empty bottle

🤣🤣🤣🤣

3,2,1.... thread goes poof 💨 as OP is feeling upset (I.e. nobody is agreeing)

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 17/01/2024 16:10

Is this an AI post?! Surely not even AI would make this up! I'm no fan of my local asda. Marie the gorrilla on the till is a nightmare, but I just cant. Even. ....

DeeLusional · 17/01/2024 16:14

In the words of Judge Judy - You ate the steak, you pay the bill.

Ger1atricMillennial · 17/01/2024 16:15

I am concerned of the fact that you couldn't bear to smell the drink but managed to empty the whole bottle before you decided that it was that bad. I am also confused that a drink that you couldn't bear the smell of, sat in open glasses during the time it took you to get to ASDA and back.

I am assuming this is alcohol to justify the time spent to get the money back.

Pull the other one OP.

Goldenpashmina · 17/01/2024 16:19

Huh, the policy is to refund if you don't like it so yeah of course they should refund. I get why they may be suspicious as the bottle was completely empty but I can't see why it is worth their time arguing it unless you are doing this week in, week out.

I wouldn't get too upset about them not doing so, I'd just take my custom elsewhere.

winniethepooped · 17/01/2024 16:22

This is all a bit confusing but none more than this:

"I returned on Monday and the service desk employee opened the bottle to smell the drink and poured it back in after not finding I’d tampered with it and left a sticky mess all over the bottle."

Did the employee open the bottle, pour a little out into a ?cup? to smell?

And he didn't find that you'd attempted to pour some drink (the original drink from your friends cups?) or he did ? Based on the sticky mess? And what relevance is that?

I'm so confused?

UpTheAnte · 17/01/2024 16:22

From their website -

Try Me, Love Me
If you are not 100% happy with your purchase neither are we - that's why we'll both replace & refund this item
Simply return to one of our stores.
Or, call us on: 0800 952 0101
Visit our website: asda.com

Nothing here about how much of the product should be left so it's their own damn fault if people turn up with empty packaging.

I wouldn't have been arsed to go back and obvs bullshit them by half refilling it though but I stand by the principle of being able to get a refund.

OP, try their CS phoneline (if you can be bothered)

enjoyingscience · 17/01/2024 16:26

Don’t be so silly. You can’t try and get a refund on an empty packet.

FuglyHouse · 17/01/2024 16:26

Poor effort OP. 1/10 (1 point for the laugh).

MamaGhina · 17/01/2024 16:27

I also found this online

“Many of Our own brand products carry the Try Me Love Me promise and if You’re not 100% satisfied with them please contact Customer Services via our our Help Centre and We will arrange for a refund and also an e-voucher will be credited to Your Account (to the equivalent value) to allow You to choose a replacement product as part of your next online shop with Us. Our Try Me Love Me promise applies to any item featuring Try Me Love Me on the packaging”

My sensible questions are
a. Was it purchased online
b. Was it an own brand product in the Try Me Love Me packaging

If you met these two criteria I would contact the help centre

DemBonesDemBones · 17/01/2024 16:29

I don't think Asda are the unreasonable ones here!

kisstheblarney · 17/01/2024 16:29

I'm so going to do this with wine!

This made me howl 😂😂😂😂😂😂

ineedsun · 17/01/2024 16:31

I don’t understand this, so you took back an empty bottle and they wouldn’t refund it (fair enough), what did you take back the second time? Did you get a bottle off the shelf and say ‘here, smell this it smells disgusting’? If you did, I don’t even know where to start with how batshit that is.

ronoi · 17/01/2024 16:33

the service desk employee opened the bottle to smell the drink and poured it back in

Any chance of this making sense?

They opened the empty bottle and poured it back in to where?

ArabellaScott · 17/01/2024 16:35

Was it nit shampoo, OP?

Mrsm010918 · 17/01/2024 16:37

This has given me a good chuckle today.

Of course they're not going to refund an empty bottle, their logic is you don't drink a whole bottle of something you don't like

AlohaRose · 17/01/2024 16:45

I really want to know what this drink is!

What?

iLovee · 17/01/2024 16:48

Hahaha good one! Made for an entertaining read but not very believable I'm afraid 😉

OooohAhhhh · 17/01/2024 16:49

So is the "love it or get your money back" policy literally just a sip then?
I don't understand - you can't expect to get a full refund on a whole bottle of alcohol that was returned back empty?? 🤣🙄
