To be disappointed partner booked "holiday" ?

closemydoormow · 14/01/2024 12:50

So me and partner have 2 holidays booked this year.
Greece in September and a ski holiday in December.
I'm more than happy with this
He has now told me he has booked us 3 nights in Gran Canaria in 4 weeks
I questioned the 3 nights thing and he said they were really cheap flights (under £20 ) so he thought why not
Aibu to be a bit annoyed
It's a long way to go for 3 nights
We land on the Sunday at 10.30 am
We fly back on the Wednesday at 11.30 am

Would you be annoyed going all that way for 3 nights ?

I'd be over the moon! He booked it himself without me telling him and is to a warm place. I don't understand why are you so upset? You sound ungrateful and spoiled.

Jessforless · 14/01/2024 14:24

Where are you flying from? I want cheap flights to the sun in 4 weeks 😂

Chipotellyandlime · 14/01/2024 14:25

Wow I'd love it if my partner did this.
I wouldn't be so ungrateful.

Can't believe so many people think it's normal for one half of a couple to book international travel for them both with no consultation whatsoever. This just wouldn't happen in my world.

The op's question was not is it normal, it was would we be annoyed.

If she'd asked if it was normal, I'd have said no. Most people don't work like that so it is not normal/commonplace.

That's totally different to being annoyed or not annoyed.

CactusPeach · 14/01/2024 14:28

@highlo She said herself the trip feels like too much hassle so was just suggesting if those two hotel stays could be why 🤷🏻‍♀️
Personally I'd be happy with that trip, but I love travelling and I don't find airports stressful.

PrincessCharlette · 14/01/2024 14:28

You sound hard work OP.

Anna8089 · 14/01/2024 14:29

Let's swap lives and see how you feel. Good grief .

PurpleChrayne · 14/01/2024 14:29

I would love that!

Unclench a bit.

It's a nice thing he's done.

Awww - are your diamond shoes a bit too tight as well?

Your jealously is palpable

kisstheblarney · 14/01/2024 14:34

Second thread is as many days where the OP is so upset at her partners holiday efforts!

Imagine the reverse....

Nineteendays · 14/01/2024 14:36

I’d be elated with this
yabu

wronginalltherightways · 14/01/2024 14:37

I'll go.

Really.

I'll go.

dottypotter · 14/01/2024 14:38

No sod that packing parking, cost of parking, flights, transfers, you'd just be settling in and it would be time to come home.

Not miserable just practical.
Minimum of a week, to make ot worthwhile.

Shorter break perhaps in the UK.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 14/01/2024 14:38

I guess if the person booking can see your work calendar and knows you can take the time off work and if you still have annual leave to use up? I'm not crazy about it from the CO2 side of things but you try and offset that in other ways I guess

Animatic · 14/01/2024 14:39

I'd be excited but I used to go for long weekends in Dubai pre-children (8 hrs flight); 4 hrs is nothing.

Vistada · 14/01/2024 14:40

Don't go then?

YANBU to not go but YABU to ask for sympathy because WTF

Missamyp · 14/01/2024 14:43

Nah DP is itching to go away for a short sun break.
Where did he find the flights so cheap?

She's got a full week booked off already and only had plans for 2 nights in Leeds

Variedviews · 14/01/2024 14:45

Airport is a 25 min taxi ride away but flight is 6 am so will need to book hotel

Surely the time difference from home to the airport and hotel to airport is negligible. Are you looking for problems?!

MakeEasy · 14/01/2024 14:47

Eleganz · 14/01/2024 13:11

I think it is not that normal for men to do it to women, but I know loads of women (not me personally) who will book a holiday with no prior discussion with their husbands/partners beyond general discussions about budget for the year.

I'll be honest, if this is all OP has to worry about she is pretty lucky.

‘I'll be honest, if this is all OP has to worry about she is pretty lucky.’

why do people post this kind of nonsense? Why on earth do you think that this is all the poster has to worry about?

I'm the same. Would be happy with the 3 night trip and love airports/flying etc - it's all part of the fun to me.

Personally I'd prob manage without the hotel stays either side, but my point was that if OP feels they are necessary as she's not comfortable relying on taxi etc then she may as well make the most of them. Turn a negative into a positive and all that
