AIBU to find Liza Tarbuck annoying ?

I stumbled across her Radio 2 programme earlier this evening whilst exploring the various stations. I didn't know who it was until she mentioned her own name. Admittedly she did play some decent music but managed to talk utter drivel between every record. I didn't think it was possible to have access to a bottomless pit of verbal vacuous nonsense but evidently it is. I'm fully prepared to be told that lots of people like her and that's her broadcasting style and I am therefore BU. I don't think I'll be tuning in again.

For context, I was listening to Clive Anderson on Radio 4 beforehand and he can be cringeworthy at times. But nothing like Liza Tarbuck. BTW, does she put that voice on or is it her normal speech?

@Strugglingtodomybest I shared your feelings re the SW to SM transition. In fact SM actually makes me think SW wasn't that bad!

BeaRF75 · 14/01/2024 09:58

It is a very personal thing, who we like on the radio. I love Liza Tarbuck - she is by far the best presenter on Radio 2, and plays some brilliant music.
Whereas I couldn't abide Terry Wogan - far too full of himself (& a friend of mine worked with him, and said he never listened to anything anyone said - so rude).
But life would be dull if we all liked the same people/things.

Absolutely cannot stand her on her Radio 2 show. She clearly finds herself very funny and, inexplicably, gets a lot of love on here. Dreadful forced, self-conscious 'humour'. I have always thought of her as a sort of pound shop Dawn French.

First half of Saturday on R2 is great - Tony Blackburn, Dermot, Claudia (for now), Pick of the Pops. Second half is utterly dire, with Rylan, Liza and dreadful 80s cheeseball Gary Davies. I can bear having Rylan and Gary on in the background but the Liza cringe is so severe that the radio has to go off.

Oh good god I find her beyond irritating.

And that chuckle she does? So so fake it makes me furious.

Im genuinely astounded that people find her warm and genuine, she seems to be playing a part, acting, I find her very fake indeed.

Yes, I agree, very fake.

Babla · 14/01/2024 10:22

YANBU I can't listen to her

I know what you mean. I think Steve Wright just needed to update the afternoon show, what was doing my head in was that it was the same old thing since the 80s.

Dianaofthelakeofshiningwaters · 14/01/2024 10:31

Another fan here - pretty much the only time I listen to R2.

She's great.

Totally agree with you. I don't know why people liked Terry Wogan.

scorpiogirly · 14/01/2024 12:10

I agree. I don't dislike her because there isn't a good reason to. But she is just so enthusiastic, way too happy and utterly boring.

Itiswhysofew · 14/01/2024 12:16

I tuned in once, a couple of years ago, as I'd heard it was a good listen. I didn't enjoy it. It seemed that she was just reading listeners comments in between the music, with nothing coming from her.

Willmafrockfit · 14/01/2024 12:17

i like her show,
it took me a while, first listen was a shock, but i like her now

I found him okay on TV but boring on the radio.

Lionoso · 14/01/2024 12:55

I haven't listened to her radio show, but she is my least favourite person to have been on Taskmaster.

The season she was was the worst season overall and a lot of that was down to Lisa (and Russell Howard). But humour is a very individual thing and maybe her comedy just isn't for me.

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 14/01/2024 13:09

Part of the reason I loved Terry's show and also love Liza's is the long running gags and in jokes which if you're only dipping into would mostly go over your head. As pp have said it's a bit like being part of a club and it's very comforting at times.

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 14/01/2024 13:11

My dream R2 lineup would be breakfast show with Chris Evans, all day with Ken Bruce, drive time with Simon Mayo, evenings with Liza Tarbuck, and squeezed in somewhere would be an hour or two with Eddie Mair. Then all night with the guy who covers for a lot of people and I always forget his name.

But then you’d still need slots for Johnnie Walker, Craig Charles, Cerys Matthews, Jon Holmes, Shaun Keavney……..

AloeNora · 14/01/2024 13:16

I love Sara Cox, Vernon, Rylan and Lisa.

Somebody needs to tell Scott Mills that those of us driving home at 4 don’t need his DCI crappy ear worm investigation taking up the amount of air time it does.

AloeNora · 14/01/2024 13:26

Love Claudia, Graham Norton too and Lisa’s chuckle!!!!!

My husband got me hooked on LT’s show. It’s so positive and cosy. Love the music and love her.

Can’t bear Michael Ball, Steve Wright, Elaine Page( now that is an annoying chuckle) and Scott Mills. Zoe has grown on me although she needs to stop moaning about the need for weight loss and plugging what her kids are getting up to.

I spend far too much time driving and can only get Radio. Dh has also introduced me to 6music which I flip back and forth particularly when I don’t want to hear listeners humming ear worms. I like a decent range of music and witty chat that doesn’t go on for too long although it can if it’s Claudia, Rylan,Mummy Linda, Graham and Vernon.

Willmafrockfit · 14/01/2024 13:26

i also like Paddy O'Connell

Are you aware of indivual folk having an individual sense of humour?
Drivel and OTT voices aren't remotely funny to me, but I certainly wouldn't say my sense of humour is AWOL, far from it.

I would say your sense of humour is non-existent on this evidence Perhaps.

Thedogscollar is obviously joking.

MmedeGouge · 14/01/2024 03:52

I agree, listening to Lisa is like meeting up with an old friend. She is very companionable and I enjoy her choice of music.
I miss Paul O’Grady and Janice Long on the radio too.

Thanks very much for replying to me!

A lighthearted show that doesn't take itself too seriously and that's great on a weekend.

They were funny and played good music. All personalities.

Edited

Completely agree.

AloeNora · 14/01/2024 13:57

Yes I miss Simon Mayo too but do love Sara Cox.

RaraRachael · 14/01/2024 14:10

I love listening to Rylan on a Saturday afternoon but as soon as he's finished the radio goes off. I can tolerate most DJs but not Liza Tarbuck. I can't put my finger on what it is I dislike but I really can't bear to listen to her.

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 13/01/2024 22:22

I miss all these presenters too, especially Terry. Also used to like Simon Mayo and Graham Norton, now only Liza worth listening to.
Like pp I also wish she were a mate of mine.

Thanks for replying! They were fun. R2's not quite the same anymore. They seem to want to appeal to a younger audience.

Would be nice to have a meet up, in a motor home!
