I stumbled across her Radio 2 programme earlier this evening whilst exploring the various stations. I didn't know who it was until she mentioned her own name. Admittedly she did play some decent music but managed to talk utter drivel between every record. I didn't think it was possible to have access to a bottomless pit of verbal vacuous nonsense but evidently it is. I'm fully prepared to be told that lots of people like her and that's her broadcasting style and I am therefore BU. I don't think I'll be tuning in again.

For context, I was listening to Clive Anderson on Radio 4 beforehand and he can be cringeworthy at times. But nothing like Liza Tarbuck. BTW, does she put that voice on or is it her normal speech?

I can’t listen and switch off. She’s similar to Sarah Cox in the zaniness but doesn’t have Sarah’s verbal gymnastics and wit.
I don’t know why people are criticising the OP for starting the thread. Not everyone likes the same TV series, host, radio presenter.. We literally discuss all of this endlessly on MN every single day!

I can't stand Sarah Cox but love Liza Tarbuck. Horses for courses.

twoforj0y · 14/01/2024 07:58

Totally agree OP.

I start off thinking how lovely she sounds, within minutes I am amazed at how she can gloss her way along through everything while saying absolutely nothing of value... and once I notice that, it's game over, she has to be switched off!

Shouldgetupearlier · 14/01/2024 08:02

I listen to Elaine Page for her laugh, although I recently realised that I picture Barbara Dickson in my head instead.

YANBU - I find both her and Liz Kershaw are v hard to listen to.

Liz Kerahaw is absolutely the lowest of the low

cerisepanther73 · 14/01/2024 08:04

I like her i think she is Ok , i find her quite Witty and personable but do get though how she could come across 🤔 as irritating to some ears too,

I think she could be like marmite , you either like her or don't

rarely she is thought of OK type of thing,

Karwomannghia · 14/01/2024 08:11

When is she on I hadn’t heard her for a while- just not driving at the right time I guess but I’ve been listening to the radio more and hadn’t heard her so I thought maybe she’d left. I remember when I first heard her thinking she was a bit odd but was soon laughing my head off.

PuppyMonkey · 14/01/2024 08:11

I think those of us who listen regularly are used to her now and sort of love her, but can see why OP couldn’t cope - similar reaction when my sister stayed with us once and radio was on. She could believe Lisa T got away with talking such bollocks. You’ve got to understand that at this time on a Saturday evening, most of her regular listeners are on their third or fourth glass of wine, so the format is perfect. Grin

AuntieMarys · 14/01/2024 08:12

I love her show! Perfect for prepping dinner with a glass or two of wine. Great random music.

BeethovenNinth · 14/01/2024 08:16

She is definitely marmite. My gay pal loves her - he thinks she is utterly brilliant. We have the same sense of humour so I have tried to hard to enjoy her shows but she talks drivel. Utter drivel

I don’t listen to radio two now at all. It was such an institution for me when the babies were little - I knew the time of the day by what was on, whether popmaster or the afternoon show. I loved drive time. Radio 2 is utterly crap now - it’s v sad

Lamelie · 14/01/2024 08:17

JimmyGrimble · 13/01/2024 21:06

I think she’s lovely. Very warm and funny. I enjoy her show.

Same. Really like her.

Karwomannghia · 14/01/2024 08:17

Yes love the feeling of belonging listening to the radio!

Itsagreatdaytosavelives · 14/01/2024 08:21

love her!! ffs stop being mean. turn over if you dont like something. noone forcing you to listen

AloeNora · 14/01/2024 08:42

It was Claudia last week now Lisa. Is it some kind of anti Radio 2 women campaign.

Nobody feels the need to start a thread on Scott Mills or Steve Wright?🤔

Preferably with your dogs in your motor home. 😉

Dymaxion · 14/01/2024 08:45

I love the show, she plays such an eclectic mix of great music. The music makes up for some of the madder elements of her dialogue Grin

PuppyMonkey · 14/01/2024 08:48

I’ve been on about a million threads about how crap Steve Wright is TBF.Grin

LindorDoubleChoc · 14/01/2024 08:48

I absolutely love Liza's show (PAULINE!!!) but quite understand she's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.

I'm gutted that Claudia is leaving. But her excuse of spending more time with her family? My arse! We'll soon be seeing so much of her on TV that we'll get sick of her.

soupfiend · 14/01/2024 08:49

Love Liza, wont hear a word against her

BCBird · 14/01/2024 08:50

I agree she sounds like she is under the influence. I used to dislike the show, makes me laff now. Don't think she is particularly talented, just a bit different

SmugglersHaunt · 14/01/2024 08:54

I have a friend who loves her show. Even when I’m visiting for the weekend she makes us listen to it 😳 It leaves me completely cold

Iwannerbeyourslave · 14/01/2024 09:09

We were driving last night and I switched to R2. Liza was on and one of my friends said "Is she drunk?". Utter boring rambling.

Perhapsanorhertimewouldbebetter · 14/01/2024 09:12

I can't bear to listen to her either, far too much random waffle and pointless exaggerated voices.

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/01/2024 09:13

It's one long 'in joke' really, not boring once you're into it as regular themes come up. It sounds like a slightly drunken ramble but is probably quite carefully planned. If you're not open to that kind of thing then you won't like it so just turn it off.

lapochette · 14/01/2024 09:16

I haven't listened to R2 for over a year now and don't miss it at all. I think Lisa is bonkers but didn't used to mind her show too much but was in the minority (of 1) in our family.

Feel free to start one.
I don't rate many of the R2 DJs these days tbh, male or female.
Zoe Ball
Vernon Kay
Rylan
Lisa Tarbuck
Claudia Winkelman (sp) - is she even still on?
All the above grate on me, there might be others I've blanked out.
Gary Davies is decent.
Sara Cox is also decent.
Michael Ball is tolerable
R2 has really gone downhill with presenters tbh.
