I live abroad and make an English breakfast about twice a year 😂
I have fond memories of being a child and coming downstairs to the smell of bacon and cracking of eggs.
I fancy doing one this Sunday, what are the ideal things to have?
We had the full things as kids (no beans though! 🤮) but we had fried bread etc, I’ll likely just do toast, but it will be white and it will be Warburtons. Love mushrooms too, tomatoes I’m not sure as I’d do normal, proper tomatoes fried, but we had plum tomatoes as a kid? Which is best?

Here is an Ulster Fry
Bacon
Sausages
Fried eggs though Dh and I prefer poached
White and black pudding preferably Clonakilty
Mushrooms
Fried tomatoes or roasted baby tomatoes cooked so soft all the way through
hate a half tomato which has been only half cooked. Soft on the the top but still hardvon the bottom
Fried soda bread and fried potato bread
Baked beans optional

PonyPatter44 · 05/01/2024 21:33

Who hates sausages? Justice for snorks!

But a proper breakfast should have sausages, bacon, egg, fried mushrooms, black pudding and fried bread. Beans and tomatoes can get straight in the bin. Personally I like an Ulster fry, with white pudding, soda bread and a potato farl.

Hash browns have no place on an English breakfast. Horrible things.

Coffeespill · 05/01/2024 21:36

As you've used a 🇬🇧I would like to say the best fried breakfast I had was a Scottish Breakfast in Edinburgh

staceyflack · 05/01/2024 21:39

What, no bubble & squeak?

Gowlett · 05/01/2024 21:40

What’s a Lorna sausage?

Gowlett · 05/01/2024 21:41

I don’t like cooked tomatoes. Beans for me!

sprigatito · 05/01/2024 21:42

Sausages, back bacon (not crispy streaky stuff), mushrooms, beans, plum tomatoes, fried bread, fried eggs, white toast with butter, strong tea, brown sauce.

No pudding made from pig scabs 🤮

Cas112 · 05/01/2024 21:44

@CaptainMyCaptain well you tell that to my local cafe's 😂

my fav way of doing English breakfast:

  • sausages
  • poached egg
  • homemade baked beans
  • pan roasted tomatoes and sautéed chestnut mushrooms with garlic and thyme
  • homemade potato, carrot and onion hash (although I concede this is not strictly english)

no bread but if I did it would be brown toast with butter.

This is not an English breakfast.

tdino · 05/01/2024 21:46

@Gowlett apologies. It's the autocorrect and my tired eyes.

LORNE sausage.

A sort of flat square of sausage.

Gowlett · 05/01/2024 21:40

What’s a Lorna sausage?

The Poster meant a LORNE Sausage - which is the flat sliced sausage and usually made of beef as opposed to Link Sausages which can be either beef or Pork and are rolly polly in shape!! Believe they originate from Scotland so not part of a Full ENGLISH breakfast

Ha, ha! In your dreams!

Egg, bacon, sausage, fried bread, beans. Maybe mushrooms and grilled/fried tomatoes.

Hash browns - fake American 1990s import.

Plum tomatoes - fuck right off.

Clearly your English breakfast is missing

Beans

Haggis

Lorna sausage

Tattie scones.

These have no place in an English breakfast

A
Scottish one though - definitely

mommatoone · 05/01/2024 22:00

Well - pretty much what everyone else said! BUT ,with tinned tomatoes mixed with baked beans and a splash of HP😋

What’s a Lorna sausage?

I think autocorrect changed it to “Lorna”… lorne sausage is sometimes called square sausage and here’s a guide! Wikipedia - Lorne Sausage

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 05/01/2024 22:04

The usual. But I have to admit that I like bubble and squeak with an English breakfast.

WiddlinDiddlin · 05/01/2024 22:06

Ohhhhhhh...

Thin sausages
Fried eggs
Fried bread
Tinned tomatoes (with pepper and hendos as is right and proper, and super hot)
Bacon
Mushrooms
Potato cake

No hashbrowns or black pudding or baked beans yuck.

Hardly English

TheOtherMrs · 05/01/2024 22:07

Bacon, egg, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms and toast.
I'll push black/white sausage/fried spam or hash browns to the side but I'll refuse to eat any of the above if baked beans have even bean in the same kitchen 😋

Home made beans is an absolute no.

momager1 · 05/01/2024 22:08

I live abroad. I did an ulster fry over xmas.. made my own soda and potato bread, eggs , bacon , sausage, no beans as they suck here..no blood pudding (would not have happened anyway..gross) But a couple of gorgeous fried tomatoes and a bunch of sauteed mushrooms. Ok. now I want it again lol

RubyWinehouse · 05/01/2024 22:08

Bacon
Sausage/s
Egg (fried with a solid yolk)
Fried Bread
Hash Brown/s
Heinz Baked Beans
Button Mushrooms

And a mug of strong Breakfast Tea!
