Dog poo in my bin?

smoreOre · 05/01/2024 14:55

My driveway is small, I can fit one car one and that’s it and the bins are at the side. I live on a tree lined street and have numerous leaves piled up mush over the pavement.

I constantly spot owners allowing their dogs to sit on the leaves on my driveway next to the bins. I don’t know if all dogs shit in the same place but it fucks me right off - I once banged on the window and the woman just shrugged at me.

Numerous times I’ve had dog poo bagged up thrown in my big which i think is absolutely disgusting tbh. I’m going to buy a lock for the bin.

Aibu as a dog owner do you put their shit in other peoples bins?

I'm a dog owner and I wouldn't ever do this and I hate when others do it to me. I always carry the bag til I get home to put it in my own bin, so it annoys me when other dog owners feel so entitled to using my bin. I couldn't imagine lifting the top of someone's bin to throw my trash in it.

I love how people get so riled up over trivial things! Clearly not a lot else going on!

I love it how people act like scumbags then try to make out that other people are overreacting when they object.

TheOtherMrs · 05/01/2024 21:19

I bag and put in the nearest PUBLIC bin or take home and put in mine. However, I'd rather someone picked up and used our bin rather than leaving it behind and me (others) stepping in and potentially walking it in to the house.

Banrion · 05/01/2024 21:22

It's really weird that you asked this question then get annoyed with anyone who doesn't answer it the way you want.
YABU. It's an outside bin. You don't empty it. Why does it matter so much.

Dunnoburt · 05/01/2024 21:23

Just so fucking sick of dogs (tbf it is the entitled owners) and their shit.....yanbu...... they should be taking their dog shit home with them....all this baby and child comparison.....I wouldn't dream of putting a shitty nappy in someone's bin.

Dunnoburt · 05/01/2024 21:25

And for everyone saying its an outside bin, come high summer nobody wants their bin stinking of warm dog shit.

Do you put your dog poo in other peoples bins?

Haven't got a dog. I just don't mind if someone puts something, including bagged dog poo, in my bin.

MrsOosh77 · 05/01/2024 21:27

Not all local authorities are the same. In ours, you only get a bin if you actively buy one that then belongs to you.

Our waste collection is kerbside- they don’t tip a wheely bin into the truck, we have to take the bin bags to the boundary. This means that when we delve into the wheely bin for our bin bags, the odd bag of cold, squelchy dog shit left by others is unwelcome.

I agree OP I had an issue with poo being thrown in my bin unfortunately a lock doesn't work for me. My bin is only out when it needs collecting and quite often if I do not collect it quick enough after it's been emptied people throw their dog poo in it. The issue is it's then at the bottom of the bin and is there for two weeks and gets squashed under two weeks worth of rubbish. One time DH hadn't noticed when he brought it in and the bag of poo popped under the weight and was all on the bottom of the bin.
Now we always try to bring the bin in as soon as it's emptied or it means us have to tip the bin to get it out and I really don't want to have to handle someone else dog poo.

crew2022 · 05/01/2024 23:12

In our area you can get fined for dog poo in domestic rubbish so this is more than annoying.

lilaclustre · 06/01/2024 00:08

Why does anyone think it's ok to put dog poo in another person's private bin?? Fair enough council/community ones but the personal wheelie bin I pay my council tax for, of course I don't want random dog shit in there! If it's at the end of my garden and your dog shits on the path, should I really be grateful for you bagging it up and putting it in my personal bin? Really?!

lilaclustre · 06/01/2024 00:13

PoopInYourBin · 05/01/2024 20:03

I admit I have put a bagged dog poo in a stranger’s wheelie bin and posted on here as the bin owner threatened to call the police. The majority of people didn’t agree with my actions. In the future if there wasn’t a council bin nearby and a wheelie bin was there I would knock on their door first and ask if they objected. If they told me that they didn’t want it in their bin then I would carry it until I did find a public bin.

Why wouldn't you just take it home to your own bin?? How entitled are you to think a non-dog owner would enjoy having animal excrement in their bin??

What the fuck is wrong with people?!

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 06/01/2024 00:45

Citrus peel is supposed to help as the dogs don't like the scent, so I cut up mandarin peel and scattered it around the tree where I kept finding dog poo, it did seem to help so worth a try?

fuckitybobbin · 06/01/2024 01:36

@Hatenewyear we have to pay for them if they go missing, so no - they are not local authority/public bins for dog shit.

I'd mind very much if someone out dog shit in ours, the only place to keep them is by the front door, not nice with ordinary bin smells in summer, dog shit would be even worse.

Georgeandzippyzoo · 06/01/2024 02:18

As a dog owner I think its disgusting someone would do this. Our dogs poop doesn't go in OUR bin. Regardless of how well bagged it's can smell and bags can split if other stuff placed on top.
I carry it to a public /dog poop bin. It's not hard.
If I knew someone was doing that I'd definitely get a lock.

I’m not going around knocking on everyone’s door, it’s happened once since my original post, no one answered so I went on my way and then put it in a council bin. I refer back to my previous responses adding how would I know whether a homeowner has a dog or not? We don’t all have one of those ‘I live here’ signs with a picture of the dog in the front window.

Why can’t I ask? If the bin owner doesn’t mind why should you?
Why can’t I use a council/public bin? Why do you take issue with a waste bin being used for its intended purpose?

No entitlement I just understand the concept of what a bin is for. The homeowner has the option to
a. Not answer
b. Say no
c. Tell me to go away and never darken their door again
d. Shout gerroff my laand
e. Reconsider after meeting me and succumbing to my charming demeanour and the reality that it’s going into a bin

Finally, may every cat in the area poo in your garden. Yes dog poo is disgusting, all faecal matter is but at least the vast majority of dog owners clean up after their pets.

MinnieMountain · 06/01/2024 06:43

I agree OP. I don’t want to smell dog shit when I open my bin.
We live on a busy road, so it happens occasionally.

Whilst I can appreciate that it is annoying I would much rather someone bag up their dogs poo and put it in my bin to save me walking into it or rolling a buggy or bike over it if you weren't aware it was there.

Is this what society has come to that these are the options? Take your dog shit with you, lazy dog owners!

Passingthethyme · 06/01/2024 07:40

Frabbits · 05/01/2024 15:04

It's a bin, rubbish goes in it and they get a bit smelly.

While people really should take it home, personally I couldn't care less if a bit of random poo/rubbish ends up in my bin. Better that than it just being left there.

Edited

I don't know what's in your bin, but most stuff isn't as disgusting or smelly as dog shit. I also can't believe the answers that it's better than it being left there. Raise your standards 🤯

Walkacrossthesand · 06/01/2024 08:24

I make a point of bringing my bin in off the roadside as soon as possible after it's been emptied - there's a lot of dog walkers here, and twice I've found full poo bags in the bottom of the bin after it's been emptied, obviously dropped in there by a passing dog walker. It will sit there for 2 weeks, and quite possibly get stuck to the bottom of the bin & not empty out on the next bin day. Gross.

dancinfeet · 06/01/2024 08:39

never used to bother me until I had someone put some in my just been emptied bin, and under the rubbish that I put in over the coming fortnight the bag split and I had dog shit all over the bottom of my bin. Absolutely disgusting and cleaning it was nasty. So now I object strongly to anyone using my bin for their bagged up shite, they should carry it and take it home.

If it was bin day, bin was full and waiting to be collected and someone put a bagged turd on top I wouldn't have a problem (still cheeky but not going to cause me an issue). However if bin has just been emptied and someone puts a bagged turd in the empty bin that's when it's absolutely not on. It's happened to us several times. Not noticed the bag, heavy rubbish has been put on top, bag split, shit in bin, stench, maggots for 2 weeks then I (well DH) has to clean the bin. How anyone can think this is OK is beyond me.

JanuaryBirthdays · 06/01/2024 09:21

Our old house's back garden backed onto a path to a park. Our bins were out the back. Needless to say they were targeted by dog owners with their dog shit in bags.

DH caught someone putting a bag of dog shit in our bin once and told him to take it back home with him. A few other dog walkers were walking by and were very affronted that we wouldn't accept their animals shit in our bin, where else were they supposed to put them?
DH told them it's their animal, their responsibility and not ours.

We took our bins in the garden after a month of living there.

You chose to get a dog, you can look after their shit too. It absolutely stinks.

WhatNoUsername · 06/01/2024 21:30

I don't mind people using my him for their small bits of rubbish. I'd rather that than littered on the street. If rather not dog poo though mainly in case the bag splits and it ends up smeared in my bin and I'd then have to clean the disgusting mess out. Take it home and put it in your own bin!
