Dog poo in my bin?

smoreOre · 05/01/2024 14:55

My driveway is small, I can fit one car one and that’s it and the bins are at the side. I live on a tree lined street and have numerous leaves piled up mush over the pavement.

I constantly spot owners allowing their dogs to sit on the leaves on my driveway next to the bins. I don’t know if all dogs shit in the same place but it fucks me right off - I once banged on the window and the woman just shrugged at me.

Numerous times I’ve had dog poo bagged up thrown in my big which i think is absolutely disgusting tbh. I’m going to buy a lock for the bin.

Aibu as a dog owner do you put their shit in other peoples bins?

But those bins are completely different as they are full of it. Literally. That is all that is in them.
Completely different from one sealed bag in an outside bin amongst the other rubbish.

The smell comes through the bag, and if split when in my bin then it would not be tipped out on collection. The smell is disgusting, when someone has put shit in my bin I know immediately when I open the lid to put a bag in. Even one shit is horrible.

chattyness · 05/01/2024 17:35

I wouldn't want other folks dog poo in my bin either & I'm a dog owner myself. As others have said once a heavy bag of household waste goes in on top , it will split the poop bag and it will leak out and stink especially in Summer. How would you like to clean smelly dog poop out of your bin every week especially when you don't have a dog ? Poop attracts flies, who will lay eggs and then you've got stinky maggots to deal with as well urgh!
I pick up after my dog and it goes into a lined compartment in my dog walking bag and then into the council dog poo bin when we get to it.
OP in you situation I would get a bin lock -as you've already thought about doing this yourself, clear the leaves regularly and spray the area where they poop with vinegar, do it every day if you have to. They don't like the smell of it,so should steer clear and poop elsewhere .

Because it could split open if something heavy is placed on it. I wash my bin out frequently and I don’t want to be dealing with dog poo.
Most LA require animal excrement to be double bagged. a dog poo bag put in there will not be..
People just don’t want your rubbish. Take it home.

Its not actually your bin, they belong to the Local Authority. HTH.

Mine is most definitely my bin, I bought it. Our council don't supply bins.

Legendairy · 05/01/2024 17:36

I'd never let my dog go to toilet on someone's drive but I wouldn't be bothered if someone put bagged up poo in my bin. It's not my bin,it's a council one and it's not inside my house ever.

That said, I haven't ever put a dog poo bag anywhere other than a public bin or my own as a friend of mine was screamed at and threatened for doing this once so I am guessing it does really upset people. It wouldn't have crossed my mind before that incident that people would be so bothered about it but they clearly are so I'd not do it myself.

VolvoFan · 05/01/2024 17:40

Whether you bought the bin that you have in your possession, or it was supplied to you by the damn council, is immaterial. If you own a dog, you pick the dog's mess up and you either find a public dog poo bin on your route or you take it home and put it in your bin.

It's the laziness, entitlement and arrogance of the public that is shining through here. There is no decency anymore.

anothernamechangeagainsndagain · 05/01/2024 17:40

I can't get worked up about bagged poo in my bin, I am however annoyed at the people putting large quantities of fast food rubbish in my bin, it's in a bank of bins by a cut through, could be a neighbour hiding their fast food habit or a passer by.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 05/01/2024 17:44

I couldn't get worked up about the odd illicit bit of dog poo rubbish in my bin.

We are on the way to a lovely park, my bins are accessible from the pavement... I don't bother to sniff or look to closly at the rubbish in my bin to check what others dump there. It's a disgusting unhealthy habit that you should drop immediately

Dog shit is not the equivalent of other rubbish, which is mostly just non recyclable food packaging. You don't need to 'sniff' or 'check' for shit, in warm weather the smell hits you as soon as you open the bin. In cooler weather it's a good habit to check as anything heavy could split a dog shit bag.

BirthdayRainbow · 05/01/2024 17:53

YANBU about people putting poo in your bin but you are about dogs pooing on the leaves

Well it’s pretty fucking obvious when you go to throw in the first bag in an empty bin and see the pop bag, I’m not Stevie Wonder.

And seeing as I don’t have dogs or babies then the smell of shit does hit your nostrils when you open the lid.

It’s just absolutely lazy and gross. And anyone saying it’s better than on the floor seems to think that’s the only option available.

Wellhellooooodear · 05/01/2024 17:56

YANBU on either count. The bin thing has happened to us on numerous occasions. Anyone saying it's OK is a fucking scrote.

ExtraOnions · 05/01/2024 17:57

Dog owners … it’s your dog, take the shit home with you, and put it in your own bin.
my bins are collected every two weeks, I don’t want dog shit in it, like I don’t want next door rubbish in it either.
We should all be grateful dog owners clean it up (apparently), no, you are legally obliged to clean it up.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 05/01/2024 17:57

No, I don't want dog shit bags either.
Can dog owners take their dog shit to their own house and get rid. The amount of money spent by councils on dog shit bins collection and disposal
is crazy too. 1000s of tons is lifted each month per area, it should be taxed.

Kalevala · 05/01/2024 17:58

Yes, if it's contained in a sealed bag and so unoffensive then put it in your bloody pocket or bag and take it home.

Idiot. So if someone rents their house is it OK for their landlord to let themselves in and make a cup of tea because they own the house? No it's not. HTH

Creatureofhabit87 · 05/01/2024 16:08

Haha another one of these!
I have put bagged up poo in others bins.. it’s a bin..it’s what bins are for!

I'd love to catch you putting it in mine. You'd be wearing it!

TheNoodlesIncident · 05/01/2024 18:05

Well. We don't have a dog but we have a cat, her litter tray offerings go bagged into our landfill bin and yeah, the smell does permeate through the bag. When you've got a few in your bin you do notice it when you open it to chuck rubbish in, it's... not nice. Having said that, I wouldn't put bagged poo in someone else's bin but I wouldn't care if someone did in ours, simply because of the bagged cat poo in there already. I imagine I would feel differently about it if there wasn't, so I can understand other people disliking that.

If I were you OP I'd clear the fallen leaves, spray the boundaries with a repellent spray and get bin locks for your bins.

And in our LA, you have to pay for any replacement bins so if some scummy troll pinches yours or sets it on fire or something that puts it out of action, you have to pay the council for another. It really stings, that. (Someone stole my recycling bin from the house I was selling and I had to fork out for another that I was never going to use. So annoying!)

Wellhellooooodear · 05/01/2024 18:11

Mrsttcno1 · 05/01/2024 16:04

I’m a dog owner and while I wouldn’t put a poo bag in anyone else’s bin, I really wouldn’t be bothered if someone put a poo bag in mine. It’s not as if my bin lives inside the house or I spend any amount of time around it, bins do tend to stink regardless.

I think if this is the biggest worry a person has then they are probably quite lucky🤣

Said by someone who has clearly never had to deal with a split poo bag in their bin which has gone unnoticed for 2 weeks and now teeming with maggots in the height of summer 🙄

AnneElliott · 05/01/2024 18:14

I wouldn't be annoyed as long as it's in the right bin! I've had it before put in the garden waste bin and the council wouldn't take it - that was annoying.

But I have cats and so have animal poo in my bin anyway. I can see why people without animals don't like it and I think it's cheeky to go onto someone's property and put your stuff in their bin.

Jifmicroliquid · 05/01/2024 18:15

I’d never use another persons bin. I bag it and take it home. Even we don’t put it in our wheelie bin, we have a separate bin for bagged dog poo.

magicstar1 · 05/01/2024 18:18

Never. I always pick it up and bring it home to put in my own bin.

SpringHexagon · 05/01/2024 18:24

I have a dog, I don't put my dogs poo in other people's bins, even if they are out to be emptied, because I know so many people are anal about it.
But no I wouldn't care if someone put there rubbish in my bin unless it was something big.

Tinkerbyebye · 05/01/2024 18:44

As a dog owner no I wouldn’t put it in someone else’s bin, but then I would not be bothered if someone put it in mine when I leave it out for the binmen next morning

its in a bag and not on the driveway
