Dog poo in my bin?

smoreOre · 05/01/2024 14:55

My driveway is small, I can fit one car one and that’s it and the bins are at the side. I live on a tree lined street and have numerous leaves piled up mush over the pavement.

I constantly spot owners allowing their dogs to sit on the leaves on my driveway next to the bins. I don’t know if all dogs shit in the same place but it fucks me right off - I once banged on the window and the woman just shrugged at me.

Numerous times I’ve had dog poo bagged up thrown in my big which i think is absolutely disgusting tbh. I’m going to buy a lock for the bin.

Aibu as a dog owner do you put their shit in other peoples bins?

I don't have a dog, but I honestly wouldn't care if someone put bagged dog shit in my bin. It's not like a bin is a fragrantly hygienic environment to start with.

Obviously you're perfectly entitled to feel differently, but I can't see the issue myself.

RM2013 · 05/01/2024 15:51

I have a puppy and sometimes they shit where they want to shit but I never let him go on anyone’s garden/grass/driveway and always pick up after him. I personally wouldn’t dream of dumping a bag of shite in someone else’s bin. I’d wait and find a dog poo bin and put it in there

redalex261 · 05/01/2024 15:52

I have two small dogs. I would NEVER do this. I don't put poop in my own bin never mind someone else’s bin. It should always be lifted and put in a dog bin. Like everyone I do not find it pleasant, but it’s the cost of having a dog. I absolutely fail to see the point of picking it up then chucking the bag into a hedge or whatever -why!! I do have open public grass next to my house and have glared, gestured, knocked window and ran out offering poo bags to local dog owners “busy looking at phone” while dog crapping. They don’t do it now on that grass - I’ve accosted/shamed all of them by now! 🤣

@Baffledandalarmed why thank you for explaining the mechanics of it.

It's the touching of the shit (through the bag) that's I can't get my head around!

It's one of the responsibilities that comes with owning a dog.
Not pleasant, but I would assume that those who have raised children never particularly enjoyed dealing with the shit element that comes with it!

Personally, I am a bagger and either walk home with it or put it in the specific dog poo bin on my route but id 100% prefer that someone put a bag of it in my bin than leave it on the pavement.

Dacadactyl · 05/01/2024 15:56

@Verv I just think it'd be easier to not have a dog than have to clean up after it!

I have kids too, but the poo/vomit aspect of parenting never bothered me.

Mrsttcno1 · 05/01/2024 16:04

I’m a dog owner and while I wouldn’t put a poo bag in anyone else’s bin, I really wouldn’t be bothered if someone put a poo bag in mine. It’s not as if my bin lives inside the house or I spend any amount of time around it, bins do tend to stink regardless.

I think if this is the biggest worry a person has then they are probably quite lucky🤣

Lol, I feel the same way you do about kids. We're all different.

Creatureofhabit87 · 05/01/2024 16:08

Haha another one of these!
I have put bagged up poo in others bins.. it’s a bin..it’s what bins are for!

Dacadactyl · 05/01/2024 16:08

@Creatureofhabit87 I'm wondering why you don't take it home to your own bin please?

sweetpickle23 · 05/01/2024 16:10

Unless you're routinely rifling through your bins to check what's in there I can't see how this would be a problem. Do you not put anything gross in your own bin?

Daisybuttercup12345 · 05/01/2024 16:11

It is a bin. You know, for rubbish 🗑.
Would you prefer it on the pavement outside or on your garden?
If it bothers you that much buy a bin lock 🔐

Fieldofbrokenpromises · 05/01/2024 16:17

I have a dog - I don't let him shit on other people's gardens and always bag his shit up and take it home - I don't even put it in the general public litter bins although I do use the dog ones if they are not full.
On holiday this year in Norfolk I visited a small village where some residents had a scheme to show which houses were happy for you to put bagged dogshit in their bins - seemed a good idea. Although I never do it, it wouldn't bother me if someone wanted to put some in our bin - would be a bit daft as there's always some from DDog in there already. As it happens our bin is round the back so it wouldn't arise.

TedMullins · 05/01/2024 16:18

Honestly if you spend this much time thinking about the contents of your bin you need to get a life.

I mean...if you're not clearing up the leaves on your driveway and your driveway is small it might actually be hard to tell where the driveway begins and the pavement ends tbh. Maybe clear your driveway of leaves?

Leaves attract dogs - they like to wade through them and the leaves contain all manner of nasties in them.

But TBH, you can't stop a dog shitting once it has started and if they're only just on your driveway and not half way up it (and likely don't know because you've not cleared the leaves and there's no clear distinction between where one ends and the other begins)...then there's not much to be done.

The bin thing is annoying, but it's not a hill I would die on and short of padlocking them, you won't be able to stop people being ignorant.

The dogs are literally shitting next to my car door. There is a hedge that lines my drive. It’s very obvious where the pavement ends and my drive begins.

I am a dog owner and I would never put dog poo bags in someone else's bin. I don't even put them in my own bin and dispose of them in a designated dog waste bin.

I was once enraged when someone put a bag in my newly emptied bin. Our bins only get emptied every 3 weeks too!

No, not really. It's mostly soft plastics and other things that can't go in the recycling. Nothing that really smells. Food waste goes in the compost.

I'd prefer it if the owner took it to a dog waste bin or home to their own bin. Or the stickers on bins for people who already put dog shit in their bin sound like an excellent idea.

PandaCwtch · 05/01/2024 16:33

It wouldn't bother me, and I would much rather people did than leave it in the street. BUT, my bin is already full of poo bags from my own dogs. Where I live a few people use stickers on their bins to indicate that poo bags can be placed in their bins. Personally, I wouldn't dream of putting bags in other people's bins. I don't particularly get the ick from dog poo, but I totally understand that other people do. My dog's poo shouldn't be your problem.

A bigger problem for me would be the owners are letting their dog walk onto your drive, and then have poo there. You can't really stop a dog mid-poo, but you can stop them walking onto other people's driveways and gardens. It drives my dogs utterly bonkers when other people let their dogs wee and poo in my garden

CookStrait · 05/01/2024 16:34

If you see anyone allowing their dogs to 💩by your bins, go out with your own bag or paper towel, pick it up & ram it in their pocket. Or get a small shovel to scoop it up & throw it at them, aim for the face if you feel brave. They are intentionally taking their dog by the bin to 💩, just so they can put it in your bin. The dirty bastards won’t carry it home & have it in their own bin.

SpacePotato · 05/01/2024 16:34

I'm with you op.

If you want a dog, take your dog shit home and put it in your own bin.

I don't want to have to clean up stinking dog shit out of my bin from a split bag.

Although, the bin lock probably won't work as the lazy fuckers will just leave the bags on top of the lid.

Summer15coming · 05/01/2024 16:36

I'm a dog owner, and would never, ever even consider putting a bag in someone else's bin.

That being said, if someone's thought process was literally that they can either a) pick up the poo and put it in my bin, or b) leave it on my drive for me or my dog to walk in, I'd be so glad if they chose a)! I'm not sure why option c) pick it up and carry it to the next council bin wouldn't occur to them, but I guess it takes all sorts.

WindTheMummyUpWindHerBackAgain · 05/01/2024 16:36

A woman walked down my driveway and put her dog shit in my just emptied garden waste bin!! And grimly, it then stuck to the bottom so couldn’t be retrieved and stuck there for months. Revolting. I’d never used someone’s bin for my own rubbish, let alone put poo in it. Especially having to walk on their property to do so!

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/01/2024 16:36

I wouldn't dare put my dog poo in someone's bin.
