Dog poo in my bin?

smoreOre · 05/01/2024 14:55

My driveway is small, I can fit one car one and that’s it and the bins are at the side. I live on a tree lined street and have numerous leaves piled up mush over the pavement.

I constantly spot owners allowing their dogs to sit on the leaves on my driveway next to the bins. I don’t know if all dogs shit in the same place but it fucks me right off - I once banged on the window and the woman just shrugged at me.

Numerous times I’ve had dog poo bagged up thrown in my big which i think is absolutely disgusting tbh. I’m going to buy a lock for the bin.

Aibu as a dog owner do you put their shit in other peoples bins?

I’m a dog owner, and no I don’t put poo bags in other people’s bins! I carry it until I can bin it in at home or a public bin.

witte · 05/01/2024 16:38

I read that some dog walkers love it when their dog has a shit as they can then use it as a hand warmer.

I've never forgotten it and think of it whenever I see someone scraping shit off the pavement.

VolvoFan · 05/01/2024 16:39

I suppose at least they're picking up after their dog. Although, if you can pick up after your dog, you can also take the dog poop home and put it in your own bin.

Flossflower · 05/01/2024 16:43

What do dog owners mean when they say they are taking their dog round the block. They mean they are taking it out to crap/piss on someone’s garden fence or gate. I have seen a growing trend of people letting their dogs on my front garden to toilet. I banged on the window once and a woman just waved her poo bag at me as if this was ok.
My sister saw someone put a poo bag in her just emptied bin as she was about to take it round the side. She tipped her bin upside down, picked up the bag and chased after the woman. The woman had an open bag and that is where the dog poo bag went.
Take your mess home. If heavy rubbish goes on top of the bag in the bin it will split open.

HappiestSleeping · 05/01/2024 16:43

@smoreOre I am a dog owner and have never put poo in anyone else's bin. Apart from anything else, it is supposed to be double bagged to go in a domestic bin, and I doubt whether anyone is double bagging to put poo in your bin.

That said, in your position, I would prefer poo in the bin to left on the drive / pavement. It's always the few who spoil it for the many, however I am beginning to think that the few are growing in number. 🤦‍♂️

UsingChangeofName · 05/01/2024 16:43

I couldn't get worked up about this - even if I noticed it, tbh.
Our bins just live on our drive where it touches the pavement, on a pretty busy road (for people walking as well as traffic). People put stuff in our bins sometimes, but I couldn't work up the energy to be bothered by it. Much of the time I don't notice it, but as long as my bin isn't too full for my own rubbish, I can't see why this would bother anyone.

cowonthecommon · 05/01/2024 16:44

I have a lock on my bin. When I get home from work on bin day, before I've had a chance to re-lock it, there is always, without fail, a bag of dog poo in there. I don't know whether it's a sense of entitlement, the idea that we live in a dog-centred society, or just ignorance and crass manners...

I've seen people throw dog poo into people's skips, I've seen it hanging from trees on nature walks and on the way up mountains. It's disgusting.

At heart, I like dogs (apart from the ugly ones who can't breathe, poor things) but their people certainly do a fantastic job of putting me right off them.

Poppysmom22 · 05/01/2024 16:47

If it was on the street full for bin day yes if it’s empty no that’s not ok

Hatenewyear · 05/01/2024 16:49

Its not actually your bin, they belong to the Local Authority. HTH.

Toooldtoworry · 05/01/2024 16:51

I own 3 dogs and I always either put their poo in the council litter and dog waste bin or I take it home and put it in our bin. I have never put it in someone else's bin. It has not really ever occurred to me to do so, and I don't intend on starting now either.

Says you who started the thread!

Says you who clicked on a thread which clearly stated what it was about, read it, then commented - twice.

Get a life as an insult is very embarrassing. It’s like a teeny tiny brain that can’t come up with anything original. I’ll await your third comment on this thread.

Cool well you wouldn’t mind if your neighbours filled your bin with their rubbish then as it’s not owned by you so they aren’t doing anything wrong.

If the bin is on your property, then no one else should be using it.

You are responsible for keeping it clean.

Womanofcustard · 05/01/2024 17:07

I’ve had dog poo bags put in my recycling bin and in my food bin. Now keep them out of the way when possible. Not an option for you op, so bin locks are the way to go.

Mindymomo · 05/01/2024 17:07

I would never put bagged dog 💩 in anybody’s bin, but I have been told by people/neighbours that it’s ok to put it in their bins, they don’t mind, but they also have dogs.

My bin is locked. It gives me immeasurable peace of mind

Flossflower · 05/01/2024 17:10

@Baffledandalarmed you can move a dog when it has decided to poo. My grandmother sprang into action as soon as her dog started to crouch and pulled it to the gutter. She picked up from there too.

Nope. Have to buy them here, £57 a pop. That’s my bin now Dave.
In fact the LA website makes it clear that you can’t get a refund if you move to another LA as if you paid for it, it remains your property.

WashItTomorrow · 05/01/2024 17:15

I would never do it, and I’d be furious if someone put dog poo in my bin. It’s antisocial and disgusting.

Thefaceofboe · 05/01/2024 17:18

Dog poo in a bin where it belongs? Who cares who’s bin it in. This is the reason why we all fucking hate each other, so much negativity about absolutely nothing.

And no I don’t have a dog or put their poo in someone else’s bin but ffs

Cas112 · 05/01/2024 17:20

They shouldn't be letting the dog shit on your drive but rather they put the poo in the bin than leave on the floor.

The bin is for rubbish, it's already unhygienic, you're not collecting nothing from the bin just depositing in it yourself, I couldn't be so bothered. You probably just want something to be annoyed about

UsingChangeofName · 05/01/2024 17:22

and I’d be furious if someone put dog poo in my bin. It’s antisocial and disgusting.

but why ?
This is what I don't get.
Keep in mind I don't have a dog, but I do have a bin other people use sometimes.

Why does this bother you ? In what way is rubbish in a bin "antisocial and disgusting" ? Confused
I don't go rummaging around in my bin when I put rubbish in it. I just lift the lid, bung my rubbish bag in there, and shut the lid. I genuinely can't understand what is so offensive about the fact a (volume wise) very small amount of the space in your bin has been used up by rubbish from someone else.

Cosyblankets · 05/01/2024 17:25

So they're actually pooing on your drive? Not on the pavement?

Mine is on my property. In summer I can smell dog shit bins just walking past them. I don't want that smell on my property.
