Good things about Jan-March?

They’re my worst months, I’m trying to find good points about them.
I am sort of glad for the end of the excess of Halloween-New year and plan on dialling things right down-doing simple family things with Dd, dog walks, beach trips, cooking, watching new films/series and basically hibernating/socialising mess and spending less! Happy to do that for a short time and revel in it, but possibly not until Easter!
What do you like about these months/how do you fill these months?

@RedVanYellowVan Whats your business, out of interest

I’m guessing divorce lawyer 😂

Every day is there for you. Each is unique and special. Each day, birds in our garden gather to sing in the sunrise. No matter what, they are happy

DillDanding · 05/01/2024 20:01

Cold weather is on the way, so hopefully bright sunshiny days and frost. Walking to a country pub and sitting by the fire.

The pots of bulbs all have shoots appearing.

Cosy nights with the wood burner lit and candles glowing.

I much prefer wearing winter clothes.

Whiskyfromsmallglasses · 05/01/2024 20:18

Lighter nights gradually coming but still being dark enough to light candles and have some of my fairy lights on around the house

Getting cosy with a good book or something on TV

Seeing the shoots coming through in the front garden

Starting a brand new calender always makes me smile

Tidying up the garden from all the storms

The Big Garden Bird Watch always fills me with joy in January. I love feeding the wild birds and continue it all year round

Hopefully in March/April time I'm hoping the hedgehogs will return to the garden they gave me so much pleasure last year I even bought a camera to film them at night

All this.

I stood outside in the garden tonight and the sky was so full of stars, it was beautiful. Long days means shorter nights so make the most of these long nights. They're magical and they will seep away soon enough.

I love hot water bottles and peace and silence and barely hearing neighbours, With El Dino and climate change, who knows how hot it will get this year? Fine if you're on holiday but I am in no hurry for the heat and sweating and the noise and the brightness which goes on and on.

This time is perfect. Don't hurry it away

I am a big Oscars fan, so this time for me is usually waiting for the Oscar noms in Jan to be out and then I do a cinema marathon to watch most nominations before the ceremony in March, fills the time nicely.

Noticing the lighter mornings and evenings.
The bulbs coming out. I look forward to going to some woodland where there are carpets of snowdrops.
The appearance of the hawthorn blossom.
Freak mild days
Occasional nights when the temp stays high enough for a spontaneous camping trip.

Echobelly · 05/01/2024 22:28

First signs of spring
It starts getting lighter really fast in February
Comfort food!

cardibach · 05/01/2024 22:30

There aren’t any. It’s cold and damp and miserable and horrible and I’ll be fed up about it and struggling not to overeat and rink too much all the way to proper warm weather.
Sorry that’s not what you want from this thread but it’s the truth and people banging on about reasons I should be cheerful at a time of year that makes me utterly fed up just make me angry and then more fed up.

OceanicBoundlessness · 05/01/2024 22:32

I think our calendar is out of sync with our bodies and minds. Instead of new year, new start we can recognise we're still in the depths of winter and take a little more time to keep things slow.
For me that's a part of why I've hated this time of year in the past. I've felt so out of sync with it. This year feels better because I feel I'm working with it a bit more.

Feb & March are my "free" months for council tax.
I pay it over 10 months so don't have to make a payment those two months, which via 'girl math' makes it free. I don't tend to do anything with the extra funds but its nice to know I could if I wanted!

I know this was said in jest but I'm challenging myself to be brave enough to call out casual sexism. Please don't suggest that girls can't do maths as well as boys.

toddlermam · 05/01/2024 22:42

I book a holiday in January to escape the cold and start the new year off on an exciting note. Helps my sanity!

Allfleshisgrass · 05/01/2024 22:42

It’s important to find joy in the smallest of things, and I hate the long, cold, dark nights. Although I do enjoy the wintry teas, guilt free evenings in front of the telly and watching the incremental changes in the lighter mornings. Feeling miserable about the weather and darkness for a quarter of the year doesn’t do anyone any favours! By 1st February things have sufficiently changed so I’ll cheer up then.

ODFOD. I work in finance; I can do maths just fine, ta.

'Girl math' is a phrase going around the last few months and a bit of a tik tok trend. The inverted commas that I put it in my original comment indicated it wasn't a sincere concept/opinion. Though maybe your comprehension isn't as strong as your misplaced feminism.

Dilli · 05/01/2024 22:50

Getting the seed catalogs and ordering vegetable and flower seeds, sowing some early stuff, waiting for the shoots to appear.

Mufflepuff · 05/01/2024 22:50

Yeah. Tiktok trend doesn't make it not sexist. Neither does inverted commas.

loafland · 05/01/2024 22:51

DH and DS's birthdays in January.
Possibility of snow (more likely than in December around here).
Working our way through indoor venues - every soft play and museum or historic house within travelling distance.
Booking up events like kids theatre shows and concerts.
Outdoor days out from Feb half term (but booked last minute in case of wet weather).
Walking home from school in daylight again.
Eating cheap picnics in the park for lunch instead of paying for cafes just to stay warm and dry.

AnyFucker · 05/01/2024 23:01

I really applaud this - calling out casual sexism - and so should every woman, imo.

You didn't deserve this crap reply. Some posters on MN instantly turn to this kind of chippy, defensive reaction instead of engaging or taking a perfectly reasonable comment on the chin - it's irritating and kills any kind of intelligent back and forth. I hope it doesn't dent your confidence in challenging yourself to call out sexism.

Dilli · 05/01/2024 23:04

Hibernate and spend nothing, save lots or pay down debt.

What a mega arsehole reply that really is.

This is a nice, positive thread. Let's show the op support instead of this kind of thing.
