Good things about Jan-March?

Inmecomfiesnow · 05/01/2024 12:43

They’re my worst months, I’m trying to find good points about them.
I am sort of glad for the end of the excess of Halloween-New year and plan on dialling things right down-doing simple family things with Dd, dog walks, beach trips, cooking, watching new films/series and basically hibernating/socialising mess and spending less! Happy to do that for a short time and revel in it, but possibly not until Easter!
What do you like about these months/how do you fill these months?

@ApplePippa Yes! Noticed the sky the other night ⭐️ Being a bit thick here, but why are the skies so clear in January?

Spring bulbs, daffodils, unexpected warm days in February, valentines? Quiet pubs (because everyone is skint?)

JaceLancs · 05/01/2024 18:32

DP birthday January
mini break in UK February
DS birthday March
planning holidays
getting back on diet and exercise plan
trying to build in more relaxation time after a busy festive period

I always have a weekend away or longer in January or February. I realise not everyone has the option to, but if you do, it helps a great deal.

A weekly sauna also helps.

That will be my positive too when the children are older.

OP though, it does get lighter as the months go on.

You could learn a new skill or craft.

(I am not a fan of Jan or Feb and would quite happily rent a house in the Caribbean and stay there - if we could afford it)

CharlotteRumpling · 05/01/2024 18:47

Just had a long bubbly soak with a face pack, after getting in from the cold. Small wins!

Leftoversgalore · 05/01/2024 18:58

Gorgeous sunset tonight here. Like watercolours.

Six nations.

Random warm days when you can sit in the garden in your anorak with a glass of Rose and pretend its spring. My birthday is February and I've spent many birthdays outside with my face pointed up to the sun.

I love the seed planting and roast dinners and red wine. I love that Xmas is over.

I love the dark mornings and walking my dogs when it's so cold.

evtheria · 05/01/2024 19:01

• Longer daylight
• Crocuses and snowdrops (sometimes...)
• More deals at restaurants, so can afford a nice meal out with a friend or family
• No more Christmas pop on radio/in supermarket/everywhere
• Fresh new diary
• Lunar New Year! 🧧 @TheTurn0fTheScrew

RhiWrites · 05/01/2024 19:06

My birthday’s in February. If I really work at it I can stretch it out all month.

BeyondImagining · 05/01/2024 19:07

Increasing daylight
Snowdrops, primroses and daffodils
Frosty mornings (hopefully)

RedVanYellowVan · 05/01/2024 19:10

It's at least 8 months until the obsession with Christmas begins again.

It's not going to be heatwave hot.

Snowdrops, hellebores, then a whole lot of other flowers.

Lighter evenings, it is already noticeable.

Lots of birthdays in my family and friends group.

It is one of the busiest times for my business so the weeks tend to go past in a blur anyway.

Inmecomfiesnow · 05/01/2024 19:12

@RedVanYellowVan Whats your business, out of interest

Once January is out of the way, everything feels better. February is a hop, skip and a jump to March. Everything starts to be lighter.

This 100%

My birthday in Feb, Ski Trip, it not being January anymore....

HollyJollyRobin · 05/01/2024 19:29

I really enjoy this time of year!

As much as I LOVE Christmas, I do like putting the decs away and the house being fresher and brighter! I also like the calm and quiet....so fewer expectations!

I like to plan my financial goals for the year, diet goals etc and generally get organised in my life!

Agree, not paying council tax in February and March is a nice bonus!

It is nice seeing the buds on the trees and bulbs starting to poke through!

Cold mornings and the possibility of snow!

I'm not really the biggest fan of summer....I'd happily skip July and August every year! However, I do try and make the most of each season - for example, my garden looks pretty great in the summer, so do enjoy that!

TheMotherSide · 05/01/2024 19:31

I love these months ‐the gradual lengthening the days, the birdsong in the evenings, pale spears of bulbs piercing the ground, pussy willow‐ early spring, before it really gets spring-like is my favourite time of year. It feels so fresh and full of promise. You know you've got 6 months of gorgeousness ahead!

elvislives2012 · 05/01/2024 19:34

It's a beautiful and quiet time of year. Everything is sleeping and resting and yet there is still life
In the next few weeks plants will begin to lay down roots underground and birds will begin making nests.
It's a lovely time

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 05/01/2024 19:39

No council tax in feb & march! Extra pennies are always nice!

Easter, Birthdays, Pancake Day, Valentines, Mothers Day, Bank Holidays, Daffodils.

Hopefully drier weather!

BookishBabe · 05/01/2024 19:48

I pay my council tax in 10 monthly installments.
So it feels like I have quite a bit of spare money in February and March!

43ontherocksporfavor · 05/01/2024 19:52

@MrsQTip any weather app.I have the met office one . Ont he full forecast it shows when sunset is .For me (central England it’s 4.05pm today) It’s 7 mins a week lighter .

MagpieCastle · 05/01/2024 19:53

Reading a good book on a rainy day.
Noticing days getting longer one teeny bit at a time.
Looking at the leftover Christmas chocs and thinking ‘it’s ages till Spring so might as well have one last one.’ (Insert Baileys/Cheese/Weird biscuit selections as appllcable)

Didimum · 05/01/2024 19:55

Every day gets measurably better – brighter, warmer. Whereas in September you’re in the darkening decent to depths of winter.

I don’t like this period either OP, but it’s something at least!
