Is it ok to drink wine every eve?? I have a glass , sometimes 2 every evening and I love it, it makes me happy. Dh says mental health more important so if it makes me happy I should just do it. I am a healthy 40 something with a professional career. I just love wine.

I think every night is too much

HCP recommend at least two consecutive days per week alcohol free

DustyLee123 · 04/01/2024 21:32

I think it’s a slippery slope.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 04/01/2024 21:33

Maybe half a glass and not every day? My friends mum is 90 and has a small glass of wine with lunch every day.

Zanatdy · 04/01/2024 21:34

I personally wouldn’t, but I’m not sure if it’s any worse than polishing off a whole bottle in one sitting. I guess how big is 1 glass? 125ml? Or one large glass, as there’s only 3 large glasses in a bottle

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 04/01/2024 21:35

Depends. If it genuinely is just one or two glasses of wine each night and no more, I'd say that was ok.
It's so easy for it to slip to more though and then it's not

Londonscallingme · 04/01/2024 21:35

How many bottles is that a week? A ‘glass’ is a pretty inexact term these days. Mine can be both very small or very large depending on the situation!

You’d definitely be advised to have a couple of days off but the total amount matters too so how big are the glasses??

Mamabear2424 · 04/01/2024 21:36

I make sure I don't exceed 2.5 bottles a week

If I get to 90 I'll be drinking a bottle a day, won't care by that point!

I think it's okay OP but as people have said it's a slippery slope, I know from experience. Try to have two days off a week at first and see how that goes? It sounds more like habit than anything else.

Dunnoburt · 04/01/2024 21:37

Ask an Italian! .....IMO a glass a night is fine as long as it stays at that....

ThePoshUns · 04/01/2024 21:38

I suppose it depends how big the glass is.
I drink 2/ 2.5 bottles a week but like at least 3 days AF a week.
I think daily drinking becomes a habit that's easier to creep up

Missingmyusername · 04/01/2024 21:38

Depends on the size of the glass!

Dh and I love it to OP, but it can sometimes sneak up on you and you have an extra glass. Every night is a bit much, try and have two nights off a week. You’ll probably feel much better, unless a bottle lasts you a week I guess.

SnufflyBunny · 04/01/2024 21:38

I do the same. My rationale is: if I can put down a glass after even only a sip and save it for the next night, I don't have an issue. (I have very little self control). If I had to finish all my wine every night, that would constitute a problem.

Mamabear2424 · 04/01/2024 21:39

yes dont exceed 2.5 bottles a week but maybe habit as i pour a glass as soon as its evening and im watching tv

SnufflyBunny · 04/01/2024 21:39

Oh, and I never feel better for having "time off" from drinking!

LapinR0se · 04/01/2024 21:39

I also have two glasses of wine every evening.

Mamabear2424 · 04/01/2024 21:40

I dont ! If i have a night off it doesnt change , i feel the same lol

Mamabear2424 · 04/01/2024 21:40

Absolutely fine. Don’t stress

Mamabear2424 · 04/01/2024 21:42

is it fine? dh says stop worrying its fine but i am always thinking ' is it ok???'!!

If you have to do it every night, it’s a habit. The fact you are asking on here shows you have been questioning it. Nobody needs to drink every day. You drink because it makes you happy. You are getting something from it that you crave otherwise you wouldn’t bother.

It really is a slippery slope. Been there.

GrazingSheep · 04/01/2024 21:43

The long standing medical advice is not to drink every night.

Same

Mamabear2424 · 04/01/2024 21:44

i dont think its a slippery slope as i have been like this for years and have not increased it, i am asking to get a general honest view out there!

OP posts:
gamerchick · 04/01/2024 21:45

Isnt there only like 2 1/2 glasses or something in a bottle anyway? How big are your glasses? Surely you know how many bottles you buy a week?

Drinking every night has a negative effect on your body, your sleep patterns. You just don't realise because it's your normal way of feeling.

But it's your liver. Do what you want to it if it makes you happy.

Well if you're not increasing it and aren't going to,
