Regarding his sandwich.

if looked so delicious on Instagram.

In actuality it was horrible. Prosciutto is like raw bacon. Mozzarella didn’t melt. Olive oil is tasteless grease. I like pesto with spaghetti but not, as it turns out, in a sandwich.

i was so looking forward to it. Went shopping on the way home specially 😕

What food have you had that didn’t live up to expectation?

Where exactly in your vows does it say that you must be present at the precise moment of a spouse’s death? There are a lot of people who aren’t there when their spouse dies, for a variety of reasons, and it doesn’t mean they’ve broken their marriage vows ffs.

Not commenting on the not being present when a spouse dies …… that seems to be entirely private and subjective and not a point for judgement by anyone else at all

however he did break his marriage vows to his first wife in that he had an affair whilst married. So sadly by the time she was dying those vows had in fact been broken

I made his courgette pasta once and was utterly underwhelmed. But then I went to a friend’s house and her foodie husband made it and it was DELICIOUS. Subtle, yes, but delicious. I assumed he’d done something different but nope, exactly the same recipe – but he shopped entirely at fancy delis and markets and and farm shops so I think the quality of ingredients made all the difference!

I tried to make this point earlier but it got lost in the Stanley hate.

I do think quality of ingredients makes a huge difference to the outcome of a sandwich like this.

Marmite spaghetti. I think it's Nigella but can't remember for sure. I didn't like it.

Monica Galetti used to have a marmite pasta on her menu at Mere, it was amazingly delicious. Not sure who did it first though.

I've been thinking about Ross' sandwich all the way through this thread. With a soundtrack of Paranoid Android.

I think it was Nigella in 2010, referencing Anna Del Conte's memoir that first brought it to public attention. I love it.

Whaaaat?? 😮😕

I did suspect he might be a wrongun. The way he says mozzarella is a giveaway. Even Italians don’t say it as italian-y as he does. Pretentious.

But he's "Italian on BOTH sides" don't you know!

NotAClueZ · 03/01/2024 18:51

I’m not keen on Stanley Tucci but the interview doesn’t say that he left his wife, it says he couldn’t be in the room with her the moment she died. That’s a very personal decision and it’s ok. Some people don’t want to see their loved one dead.#

I don't think its ok. I think its fucking selfish. and I say that who has been with someone when they died because I was there for them.

Death isn't all goodnight sweet prince. Plenty of people are scared of dying. It is literally the last goodbye and to not be there with your wife at the moment she dies BY CHOICE because you didn't want see it is pretty vile IMO. I get if it was a mutual agreement but that's not what he's saying. He said he wants to apologise to her for it.

The person you chose to make a life with, marry and had children with, isn't worth you risking additional emotional distress to make their last moments in the company of the person they chose to do all that with. It's just my opinion and it's coloured totally by my own experiences of witnessing death of loved ones but I think it is absolutely disgusting and it has totally, totally changed my view of him.

Mind you, I suppose he's an actor who aren't reknown as a class for putting others first.

I would rather my husband was with our children.

You are incredibly naive if you think that is what happened. This isn’t about you. This about a husband and wife. That’s it. Thry made vows. End of story. Oh, and I didn’t flounce off. I’m not afraid of any of you.

Were you there?

English women love to bully.

Nice bit of xenophobia there! Confused

@LittleBearPad

in the first place, so what? I wasn't talking either about your or a situation where it was agreed.

in the second place, you may say that now but you have no idea how you would feel if you were actually in the moment of death approaching especially if you were going to die at a younger age. It's like all things that are traumatic but you have no personal experience of - people react differently in the moment to how they think they will or how you might think they will if you know them well.

Charlize43 · 03/01/2024 19:19

Stanley Tucci is a lovely man. I've met him. His wife is lovely too.

Surprisedbuthappy · 03/01/2024 19:19

YABU for saying olive oil is tasteless grease! What cheap-ass olive oil are you buying?!

myairpods · 03/01/2024 19:21

Prosciutto 🤮🤮🤮

Lottapianos · 03/01/2024 19:22

'Haha, does Tucci do a moist-maker?!'

There are lots who would say that Tucci IS a moist-maker 😉 not me incidentally, although I do think he looks great

All the sniping about what he did or didn't do while his wife was dying is in extremely bad taste

If you are talking about Spaghetti alla Nerano you are exactly right that the ingredients are everything. I would always taste a bit of raw courgette to check it isn't bitter.
It's very important to have excellent (usually expensive sad to say) peccorino or provolone.
And you do need to make sure that the courgettes are deep fried not shallow fried and rest overnight once cooked. Its delicious if done properly but is a big faff to do the courgettes the day before.

BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh · 03/01/2024 16:06

A cafe near where I work used to do this as a pre-packed sandwich and it was insanely good. The bread was a quite chewy roll, and the oil seeped in beautifully.

Absolutely loved it until the day I was eating one and discovered an entirely CLUMP of eyelashes sitting on the cheese.

Still bitter.

Human or animal?!

MouseMinge · 03/01/2024 20:00

Did he actually leave her? My understanding was that he wasn't in the room with her when she died, not that he upped and left her to die alone long before the outcome.
