To be annoyed with Stanley Tucci?

Regarding his sandwich.

if looked so delicious on Instagram.

In actuality it was horrible. Prosciutto is like raw bacon. Mozzarella didn’t melt. Olive oil is tasteless grease. I like pesto with spaghetti but not, as it turns out, in a sandwich.

i was so looking forward to it. Went shopping on the way home specially 😕

What food have you had that didn’t live up to expectation?

My god this thread could not be more Mumsnet

😆😆😆

Mirabai · 03/01/2024 15:29

I quite like pesto on crackers.

I don’t like prosciutto or Parma ham, but mortadella with pesto is ace.
I could take or leave mozzarella but if you’re going to use it it’s on you to ensure it’s properly melted.

Hang on there is a difference between not being in the room when your spouse dies and totally fucking off when they are ill a la Thom Yorke.

I am not saying the former is ok but I don’t think he should be judged as if he did the latter.

Agreed and sorry for the derail OP. I knew TY had a new partner and that his wife died very young but did he really scarper like that? How do you know?

I'd be gutted and would struggle to enjoy his music again if so.

This grim phenomenon a deserves a thread of its own!!

FranticHare · 03/01/2024 15:31

Mozzarella, Pesto and Tomatoes. Parma Ham also a fantastic addition. Tomatoes need to be perfectly ripe, plucked straight off the plant at the height of a hot day from your garden and eaten within 30 mins.

noblegiraffe · 03/01/2024 15:31

Stanley Tucci isn’t gay?!

stayathomer · 03/01/2024 15:31

SoundTheSirens
Sorry, language thing- I’d use belonging as eg a member of family or close person. I don’t mean they have ownership!!! Sorry about that😅😅😅😅

SoundTheSirens · 03/01/2024 15:31

Anyway, on topic (ish)...I'm vegetarian so pass on the prosciutto but pesto and goats cheese makes an awesome sandwich.

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 15:31

I guess I don’t see it as okay because he took vows and he ultimately made her death about himself. But I appreciate the other opinions.

diddl · 03/01/2024 15:32

I love pesto, mozzarella tomatoes & basil in panini.

Tend to use a sandwich maker as that squashes it down & melts the cheese nicely.

Candleabra · 03/01/2024 15:33

I didn’t know that about Thom Yorke. How disappointing.

justteanbiscuits · 03/01/2024 15:35

He didn't leave his wife. He was wasn't in the room at the very final moments. her sister and mother were with her. He was with their children.

Somepeoplearesnippy · 03/01/2024 15:35

@FancyJapflack You need to buy better olive oil but I agree that prosciutto is horrible.

As for the not being with his wife as she died - people can only do what they can do. He said he did it to stay strong for their children. I don't know if I'd do the same thing but I respect his priorities.

My mum died yesterday. I wasn't with her. It doesn't mean I didn't love her.

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 15:38

Sorry I didn’t mean to upset anyone.

Ponoka7 · 03/01/2024 15:41

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 15:18

I’m not assassinating his character. He did what he did.

He stepped out at the end. She would have been out of it by then and was with her DD (his SD) and her friends. He went to their shared children. I'd want my children prioritised.
Lots of people make that decision, if it doesn't cause extra distress to the dying person, it's no-one's business. I chose not to hold my mother's hand while she died. My sister and one of my DD's did.

peachgreen · 03/01/2024 15:41

ffs. Caring for my young child after DH died was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, hugely exacerbated by the trauma of seeing him die. Personally I’m glad I was there but I wouldn’t for one moment judge someone for deciding that they couldn’t be because their priority had to be their children. Until you’ve lived it, you can’t possibly understand the experience.

Couchant · 03/01/2024 15:43

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 15:13

I mean he said he couldn’t be in the room when she died but that her sister was there. Maybe her mom as well.

I’ve seen literally dozens of Mners saying they chose not to be at their close family members’ deathbeds.

Josette77 · 03/01/2024 15:43

He was taking care of their children. Watching someone die is horrific. He knew his limits and that's ok.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 03/01/2024 15:43

I love pesto on a sandwich. I once had an absolutely delicious one with grated carrots and goat cheese.

prosciutto: I like most prosciutto. Rather nice but not something to get incredibly excited about in most circumstances. At least imo.

BMW6 · 03/01/2024 15:43

Excited101 · 03/01/2024 14:54

He can fuck off with his cougette spaghetti too. It was nice, but it took literallly hours to make and SO much oil!

Really? I make cougetti and it takes a few minutes!

  1. Spiralize 2. Dress with a little olive oil.

No cooking required.

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 15:43

I understand the experience of living my vows.

MsPavlichenko · 03/01/2024 15:43

He writes lovingly and movingly about her in Taste, saying he still misses her every day. He did not leave her when she was ill.

I haven’t made the sandwich but I have other recipes, and been good in the main.

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 15:31

He made a decision to protect himself so he could manage the aftermath. That isn't making her death about him. I took vows, I don't remember them saying that I had to be with my DH when he died.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 03/01/2024 15:44

And olive oil is amazing. Fresh bread, olive oil and salt is delicious. (Especially with fig jam 😋)

With a good Balsamic vinegar!!

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 15:46

Thanks for the pile on ladies. It won’t change my opinion.
