To be annoyed with Stanley Tucci?

Regarding his sandwich.

if looked so delicious on Instagram.

In actuality it was horrible. Prosciutto is like raw bacon. Mozzarella didn’t melt. Olive oil is tasteless grease. I like pesto with spaghetti but not, as it turns out, in a sandwich.

i was so looking forward to it. Went shopping on the way home specially 😕

What food have you had that didn’t live up to expectation?

Sorry to derail - where did you hear Thom Yorke left Rachel? They said it was amicable and rumours I read were that she left him. Willing (but not happy!) to read otherwise if you’ve a link?

There doesn't seem to be anything online which alludes to this. And it's the sort of thing the right wing press would pick up on to discredit a climate leftie

EdgarsTale · 03/01/2024 16:16

He did leave his wife. He had an affair, left her & then returned when she got cancer (due to guilt). His leaving the room at her death is a separate issue. Basically he’s not a nice man.

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 15:18

I’m not assassinating his character. He did what he did.

Have you ever been with someone very close to you, as they die? Have you ever seen how nightmarish it can get? I doubt it somehow.

It's a very personal decision. Frankly, you sound as though you are naive about the whole process of terminal illness and dying, piously banging on about your "vows" like you're in a fairytale.

If somebody supports their spouse lovingly through the duration of terminal illness and all that entails, it is massively shite of you to criticise them for not being there are their last moments, when there are other loved ones there.

Shame on you for your narrow-minded cruelty and ignorance.

CroccyWoccy · 03/01/2024 16:24

Blimey this thread is a wild ride!

ObliviousCoalmine · 03/01/2024 16:26

Get out of here with your trashing of prosciutto.

FancyJapflack · 03/01/2024 16:27

Collaborate · 03/01/2024 16:12

The only pile on in this thread is the one you started about Tucci. Just because most people seem to think he did nothing worthy of your criticism does not mean there has been a pile on directed at you.

Stresa22 didn’t start the thread. It was me. I thought it would be an interesting thread about expectation V reality regarding food, initiated by a tongue in cheek OP.

I thought it would sort of go without saying that the OP was about MY opinion. I didn’t realise that people would take my opinion about something they enjoy, quite so personally.

People have got more offended than if I’d directly compared one of their children to Jabba The Hutt.

Ive been told off several times for doing two threads even though I explained why and nobody is forced to reply at all let alone to both. It’s as if I deliberately set out to waste their valuable time… more of which they wasted themselves by making the effort to tell me off than if they’d simply seen multiple posts, gone 🙄, tutted and scrolled on by 😄😄

There are far fewer posts about food than Stanley and his wives.

It’s hilarious 😂😂😂

Nigella Lawson once made me waste a whole bottle of Bordeaux on an inedible lamb recipe.
A WHOLE BOTTLE OF GOOD RED WINE and a lovely leg of lamb. Binned.
i still dislike her for it.

yossell · 03/01/2024 16:32

Think she's talking about who started the pile on, not who started the thread

Jaq27 · 03/01/2024 16:33

Although I was sorry when her awful husband tried to throttle her in public.

VanityDiesHard · 03/01/2024 16:34

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 14:58

I can’t stand him after he left his wife to die without him because it would have been too much for him to take. 😡

That isn't what happened. In fact, it was the opposite. He had left her for Edie Falco, but returned to her because she was ill. I'm not excusing his leaving her in the first place, but he isn't quite as callous as you're making out.

DoYouAgree · 03/01/2024 16:35

This thread is making me laugh (probably shouldn't) but there's like 2 separate threads running intermixed.

One has a really serious element to it in regards to affairs/ cancer but the other has an almost equal amount of indignation and rage about sandwiches and Italian food.

VanityDiesHard · 03/01/2024 16:36

Duh · 03/01/2024 15:23

Hang on there is a difference between not being in the room when your spouse dies and totally fucking off when they are ill a la Thom Yorke.

I am not saying the former is ok but I don’t think he should be judged as if he did the latter.

I agree, but did Thom Yorke leave because his wife was ill? I thought they broke up and that she got ill afterwards.

Can't remember but want to say reddit tbh so may be bullshit.

Doggonames · 03/01/2024 16:03

Sorry about your disappointing sandwich.

my main takeaway from this thread is Stanley Tucci isn’t gay?! I honestly thought he was gay.

Why did you think that? Have you not seen him in anything except TDWP?

I'm intrigued now as to what went wrong?!

VanityDiesHard · 03/01/2024 16:41

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 15:46

Thanks for the pile on ladies. It won’t change my opinion.

You're wrong, though. On a matter of fact, not of opinion. You said that he left his wife when she was dying, when in fact he merely was not in the room with her (and she probably wouldn't have even been conscious)

I think @Collaborate isnt talking about the thread, they’re talking about the pile on started by @Stresa22 . Being annoyed by his sandwich hasn’t upset anyone I think - well maybe when you said olive oil was tasteless you were playing with fire.

TheSandHurtsMyFeelings · 03/01/2024 16:43

I've been on MN for 20 years and I think this may be my favourite ever thread.

I like both Stanley Tucci and prosciutto. I'm not sure I really have an opinion on Thom Yorke, although I do have a similarly wonky eye.

So, yeah. There we go.

79andnotout · 03/01/2024 16:47

Pretty sure Thom Yorke and his wife split up before she got ill, and they remained amicable post split. He doesn't really strike me as a shit husband or friend, he seems very loyal.

stomachameleon · 03/01/2024 16:48

@TheSandHurtsMyFeelings so do I. Dodgy eye that is.

Also have cancer and hope old man is not in the room If it ever gets that bad. Wouldn't hang him out to dry over it. Fuckin hell.

Verv · 03/01/2024 16:48

Prosciutto I could eat by the bucketload.
Pesto is a food of the goods.
Tucci isnt gay.
I didnt know he was with Edie Falco - this reminds me to watch Nurse Jackie again.
He did not leave his wife when she was dying, he was not in the room when she died. They are different things.
Thom Yorke sets my spider senses tingling - I like him less than anything else mentioned in this thread.

Think that covers everything.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 03/01/2024 16:48

Hate on him for his sandwich sure but show some fucking compassion for a man whose wife was dying whilst he supported their children.

If I die first, I’d be happy for DH to be with the children.

Jaq27 · 03/01/2024 16:49

@tobee to this day I don’t understand it. I followed every step of the recipe but the result was disgusting.
bloody Nigella.

JacketAndJumpet · 03/01/2024 16:49

Bad- people trying to use garbled bits of malicious gossip as a basis for opining on who should what when a loved one dies.

Good- I’ve been making this sandwich for years and it’s lush.

ChevyCamaro · 03/01/2024 16:51

I never would have thought Stanley Tucci was gay! Even though he's now far too old for me although I'm probably older than his wife#2 I still would, I'm all about stocky Mediterranean men. He can keep his horrible sandwich though.
