Regarding his sandwich.

if looked so delicious on Instagram.

In actuality it was horrible. Prosciutto is like raw bacon. Mozzarella didn’t melt. Olive oil is tasteless grease. I like pesto with spaghetti but not, as it turns out, in a sandwich.

i was so looking forward to it. Went shopping on the way home specially 😕

What food have you had that didn’t live up to expectation?

Bad- people trying to use garbled bits of malicious gossip as a basis for opining on who should what when a loved one dies.

Good- I’ve been making this sandwich for years and it’s lush.

I think I’d make it again but without the olive oil. Just butter. I’d keep the sourdough. That was nice. I’d swap the prosciutto for some nice streaky bacon and the pesto (which I can still taste!! I think I may have used a little too much) for perhaps some brown sauce. I may keep the Mort-za-RELL-ah because I like that whether it melts properly or not.

I was also disappointed in the courgette pasta. Spent an hour deep frying slices of courgette. left it 24 hours for the dreariest pasta I’ve ever eaten.

Flamango · 03/01/2024 16:58

I’ve never found Nigella very reliable, although love watching her on TV.

Malarandras · 03/01/2024 17:00

Prosciutto is definitely not like raw bacon. If it was you’re doing it wrong!

Stanley Tucci isn’t gay?!

That's what I was thinking. Gaydar still broken it seems 😂

BeaRF75 · 03/01/2024 17:04

Stanley Tucci is fab, and the stuff about his wife is irrelevant. We are all different - I wouldn't particularly want to be in the room when my husband dies, and I certainly don't want anyone hanging around me in my final days. I definitely want to die alone and in peace. So let's not judge someone else's choices, hey?

Thanks for the pile on ladies. It won’t change my opinion.

Completely derails a chat about mozerella with wildly misleading assertion and flaunts off

Why did you think that? Have you not seen him in anything except TDWP?

Honestly I don’t know why I thought that. I just did. I haven’t really seen him in much tbh.

a couple others thought he was too.

Agreed and sorry for the derail OP. I knew TY had a new partner and that his wife died very young but did he really scarper like that? How do you know?

I'd be gutted and would struggle to enjoy his music again if so.

This grim phenomenon a deserves a thread of its own!!

As far as I was aware Thom and Rachel had split before she became ill.

Changed18 · 03/01/2024 17:20

A thread in the style of Nora Ephron's Heartburn? Well, why not?

I've already told my wife I don't want her with me when (hopefully if) I die.

Personal.decision I wasn't with either of my parents when they passed and I know they would be happy with this.

Death isn't the pretty thing that you see on tv.

ObliviousCoalmine · 03/01/2024 17:25

WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE SANDWICHES.

'Oh god no, look it up, it’s hours of frying courgette in individual slices and then mixing with spaghetti the next day.'

I remember watching him make that, and thinking that it looked like the most enormous faff, and really not even that appetising

😂 at all the MNers who are faint with shock that he's not gay. 'Gaydar' is a bag of shite, and in this case seems to be based entirely on him enjoying fashion, being able to cook and clearly taking care of himself

Weefreetiffany · 03/01/2024 17:31

How about a sandwich with deep fried courgette, buffalo mozarella and pesto?

Love Tucci, always know it’s an enjoyable movie if he’s in the cast and whatever he put in his taste book about his wife resonated with my dad after DM died from cancer, so gonna take the above with a hearty pinch of salt (and add it to my sandwich instead)

Kimmeridge · 03/01/2024 17:32

Sandwich so bad it warrants starting 2 theads 🙄

Should be grateful she hadn't watched The Lovely Bones, I suppose.

Flamango · 03/01/2024 17:37

@Elvis1956 I’m afraid it’s definitely a when, not an if.

SaltedCaramelSlice · 03/01/2024 17:39

Without trying to add to the chaos of this thread, I thought ST had died a couple of years ago. And now I can’t figure out who I was thinking of that actually did die.

Totally want a cheese, tomato and pesto sandwich now though. Brie works very well in this combo too. Definitely with good crusty bread/roll, and toasted.

RicherThanYews · 03/01/2024 17:39

I've tried prosciutto a couple of times but it had an unpleasant and waxy texture like uncooked pepperoni. I don't like pesto anymore and my olive oil never ever tastes nice. So I ask, is it a brand thing? Do I need to dump ASDA for Sainsburys or something? Mozzarella is always glorious and I love it.

Dem lovely bones of his sadly crumbled. Luckily he replaced them with a hard parmigiano reggiano

This is going to be a mumsnet classic…

Are you thinking of Willie Garson, who played Stanford in Sex and the City? Just because I’ve got them confused in the past.

He can fuck off with his cougette spaghetti too. It was nice, but it took literallly hours to make and SO much oil!

I've not seen his recipe but if you want a simple way of making courgetti just spiralise a courgette then bung it in the microwave for a minute or two. Just long enough to heat it up but not so long is goes mushy. In total it takes about 5 minutes 😎
Edit: I don't even add oil to mine

Lottapianos · 03/01/2024 17:46

His courgette spaghetti had nothing to do with using a spiraliser to make a courgette into 'spaghetti'. It was literally a spaghetti recipe with TONS of sliced courgettes fried in oil 😬
