To be annoyed with Stanley Tucci?

Regarding his sandwich.

if looked so delicious on Instagram.

In actuality it was horrible. Prosciutto is like raw bacon. Mozzarella didn’t melt. Olive oil is tasteless grease. I like pesto with spaghetti but not, as it turns out, in a sandwich.

i was so looking forward to it. Went shopping on the way home specially 😕

What food have you had that didn’t live up to expectation?

I understand the experience of living my vows.

Bully for you. Come back when you’ve been through the agonising experiencing of your spouse’s illness and death, and the pain and horror of trying to parent your bereaved children, and I think you’ll find that you’ll be a lot less judgemental.

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 15:46

Thanks for the pile on ladies. It won’t change my opinion.

It should. Not being open to changing your mind in the face of lived experience is an indicator of extreme ignorance.

SaturdayGiraffe · 03/01/2024 15:51

Try shredding the prosciutto so you don’t take a bite and have the whole thing slide out like leather. Also worth everything coming up to room temp.

askmenow · 03/01/2024 15:51

He's a pretentious prick! Weak ,fey and ineffectual n gives himself airs above his station. Turns my stomach and not only his food....

Apparently its pretty standard practice that when a woman gets terminally ill thier partner leaves, so much so that doctors and nurses prepare the female by speaking about it.

Absolute garbage . I’m a retired doctor. Never once did I hear anyone say this. I met many husbands who were much better carers to their wives with dementia( which is a terminal illness) , than the wives were to their husbands .

Anyway i also dont like pesto on sandwiches, just pasta or salmon.

I read that and thought putting pasta in a sandwich sounded odd. Took a while to realise what you meant 🤦🏻‍♀️

Cheese and pesto toasties (in the Breville) are lush @FancyJapflack. Been eating them for years. Might have to try adding prosciutto.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 03/01/2024 15:54

Not sure why you'd make a sandwich out of things you know you don't like, even if it's a Stanley Tucci recipe. I think it sounds delicious. Hardly an original combo though.

All because of a sandwich??

Excited101 · 03/01/2024 15:56

Oh god no, look it up, it’s hours of frying courgette in individual slices and then mixing with spaghetti the next day.

Butchyrestingface · 03/01/2024 15:56

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 14:58

I can’t stand him after he left his wife to die without him because it would have been too much for him to take. 😡

Opened thread thinking THIS was what it was gonna be about.

SiobhanSharpe · 03/01/2024 15:56

YOU think prosciutto is horrible. Millions of Italians and as well as people of other nationalities would disagree vehemently. It's not in the least like raw bacon and you need to buy much better quality ingredients, especially olive oil, which should be extra-virgin.

(One of my favourite sandwiches is mozzarella, home grown tomatoes and prosciutto, with or without home-made pesto, on ciabatta or focaccia. The quality of each of the ingredients, especially the tomatoes, is hugely important. )
Sorry, but it doesn't sound like you made the sandwich very well at all.

(Stanley Tucci's personal life is not really relevant, his interest in and knowledge of Italian cuisine is what counts here.)

TippiHedrin · 03/01/2024 16:00

This thread about sandwich fillings escalated quickly

My god this thread could not be more Mumsnet

😆😆😆

I was just thinking exactly the same thing 😂

FancyJapflack · 03/01/2024 15:03

Whaaaat?? 😮😕

I did suspect he might be a wrongun. The way he says mozzarella is a giveaway. Even Italians don’t say it as italian-y as he does. Pretentious.

How pretentious is it for somebody Italian American (and lived in Italy for a short time as a kid) to speak Italian? I suspect he'd have a better grasp of the language than you do.

Doggonames · 03/01/2024 16:03

Sorry about your disappointing sandwich.

my main takeaway from this thread is Stanley Tucci isn’t gay?! I honestly thought he was gay.

nadine90 · 03/01/2024 16:03

ohdelay · 03/01/2024 15:05

??? I read that and thought Thom Yorke surely. It can't be that common that they both did it.

Sorry to derail - where did you hear Thom Yorke left Rachel? They said it was amicable and rumours I read were that she left him. Willing (but not happy!) to read otherwise if you’ve a link?

totalnamechanger · 03/01/2024 16:06

This thread is blowing my brain (and I’ve got add so usually happily operate like this) 😂

BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh · 03/01/2024 16:06

A cafe near where I work used to do this as a pre-packed sandwich and it was insanely good. The bread was a quite chewy roll, and the oil seeped in beautifully.

Absolutely loved it until the day I was eating one and discovered an entirely CLUMP of eyelashes sitting on the cheese.

Still bitter.

noblegiraffe · 03/01/2024 15:31

Stanley Tucci isn’t gay?!

Straight people think they have gaydar but they never do. And yes, Stanley Tucci is straight. Gasp, even though he’s sometimes played gay roles and even though he doesn’t belch in public and isn’t overweight. Shocker.

Is this thread going to consist of explaining to straight women that ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ was not real life.

tobee · 03/01/2024 16:10

Sorry to hear that about your mum @Somepeoplearesnippy.

And about your experience @peachgreen .

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 03/01/2024 16:11

Back to the sandwich, I suspect it is the quality of the ingredients you used OP as to why the sandwich was not better.

Collaborate · 03/01/2024 16:12

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 15:46

Thanks for the pile on ladies. It won’t change my opinion.

The only pile on in this thread is the one you started about Tucci. Just because most people seem to think he did nothing worthy of your criticism does not mean there has been a pile on directed at you.

justteanbiscuits · 03/01/2024 16:14

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 15:31

I guess I don’t see it as okay because he took vows and he ultimately made her death about himself. But I appreciate the other opinions.

You said something incredibly nasty about someone, but the ones correcting you are a pile on?!!

Putyourdamnshoeson · 03/01/2024 16:14

I'm in bed, with mystery horrible illness. Vomited this morning, I suspect due to high fever. Could barely sup a miso and now I want Herby focaccia with mozzarella, prosciutto, sundried tomato and basil with a good oil and balsamic and I want it now.

And @Stresa22 you are definitely in the wrong
