Regarding his sandwich.

if looked so delicious on Instagram.

In actuality it was horrible. Prosciutto is like raw bacon. Mozzarella didn’t melt. Olive oil is tasteless grease. I like pesto with spaghetti but not, as it turns out, in a sandwich.

i was so looking forward to it. Went shopping on the way home specially 😕

What food have you had that didn’t live up to expectation?

I've not seen his recipe but if you want a simple way of making courgetti just spiralise a courgette then bung it in the microwave for a minute or two. Just long enough to heat it up but not so long is goes mushy. In total it takes about 5 minutes 😎
Edit: I don't even add oil to mine

Edited

His recipe is courgettes in spaghetti, not spaghetti made of courgettes, though.

God, I remember courgetti from my low-carb days. Not fondly, tbh.

He’s married to Emily Blunt’s sister. He’s also extremely attractive and I could listen to him talk all night.

Yes he had an affair many years ago with Edie Falco. No, he didn’t ditch his wife while she was terminally ill, he just wasn’t in the room with her at the moment of her death.

He makes great cocktails.

laclochette · 03/01/2024 17:49

Olive oil should taste grassy and herby, prosciutto should be so delicate that it virtually melts on the tongue like a wafer. Pesto may be an acquired taste in a sandwich but great fresh pesto is really just basil, cheese and pine nuts, it's hard to come by in the UK tho (most of it is made with cheaper nuts, cheaper cheese and cheaper oils not olive oil). Mozzarella doesn't take much heat to melt... Where did you get the ingredients from?

diddl · 03/01/2024 17:51

I've tried prosciutto a couple of times but it had an unpleasant and waxy texture.

Was there paper between that you forgot to remove??😊

Oh you shouldn't melt wax into it and eat the wax.

LittleBearPad · 03/01/2024 17:57

Sounds like your ingredients weren’t great OP - proper olive oil isn’t tasteless.

peachgreen · 03/01/2024 17:57

I made his courgette pasta once and was utterly underwhelmed. But then I went to a friend’s house and her foodie husband made it and it was DELICIOUS. Subtle, yes, but delicious. I assumed he’d done something different but nope, exactly the same recipe – but he shopped entirely at fancy delis and markets and and farm shops so I think the quality of ingredients made all the difference!

Luminousnose · 03/01/2024 17:58

Pesto is dead easy to make and a million times better than the stuff in jars. I also love good olive oil, prosciutto, and quite like Stanley.

NaughtyBoyGeorgeMichaelJacksonBrown · 03/01/2024 18:04

Call me crazy, but I've never liked store bought pesto 😆😉

Apparently its pretty standard practice that when a woman gets terminally ill thier partner leaves, so much so that doctors and nurses prepare the female by speaking about it.

I worked in palliative care for 7 years and never did we feel the need to prepare women patients to be left by a partner. I doubt it’s a thing, that’s not how healthcare works, you don’t generically issue a warning to all women. What’s more being with someone till the end is hard, as an outsider to the situation it’s not on to judge someone for stepping out of a room. Lots of cheap man bashing on this thread, I say that as a feminist.

Well, if the sauce is only a matter of courgettes and pecorino and Parmesan, it stands to reason you need good, fresh courgettes, rather than something knackered and gnarled that’s been in transit from Brazil or somewhere before getting to the supermarket, and is an unexciting variety bred to stand up to long storage.

Stresa22 · 03/01/2024 18:11

You are incredibly naive if you think that is what happened. This isn’t about you. This about a husband and wife. That’s it. Thry made vows. End of story. Oh, and I didn’t flounce off. I’m not afraid of any of you.

Dustpantsandbush · 03/01/2024 18:12

we made Thomasina Miers guacamole once. It was vile.

Love a prosciutto, mozzarella and tomato sandwich.
Love Stanley Tucci
Loved his book Taste and the melancholic remembrance of all things family
Loved, adored, now make on repeat the courgette pasta and it's easy, the hard bit is waiting 24 hours for the fridge to do it's thing.

Where exactly in your vows does it say that you must be present at the precise moment of a spouse’s death? There are a lot of people who aren’t there when their spouse dies, for a variety of reasons, and it doesn’t mean they’ve broken their marriage vows ffs.

Well indeed, and I did make sure I bought a British-grown one, but alas that wasn’t enough!

SpongeBob2022 · 03/01/2024 18:23

Marmite spaghetti. I think it's Nigella but can't remember for sure. I didn't like it.

See, because I have young adults at home eating me out of house and home, I'm cool enough to get this reference.
