Name changed as regular poster.

Usually win between £100 and £250 per month in Premium Bonds with nearly full holdings.

Just checked January's numbers and we've won £1000!

Anyone else?

AIBU to think they're a good investment?!

Same! Won 1250 this month which is the most I’ve ever won!

Flavabobble · 03/01/2024 02:26

£50
Not quite enough to buy the apartment I'd had my eye on.

Flavabobble · 03/01/2024 02:29

AIBU to think they're a good investment?!
And they're a terrible investment!
I have them for the gambling aspect.

coxesorangepippin · 03/01/2024 02:37

Wow, that's great!

I never win anything

Hmm But I only have £10!
Happiestathome · 03/01/2024 02:40

Congratulations!

I’m a big fan of premium bonds but I don’t think they are a good investment as such. I choose to hold them because they offer the chance of a win that could change my life. That chance is worth more to me than making slightly more per month elsewhere

JacJac77 · 03/01/2024 02:41

Do they email you to say you've won or are you supposed to manually check?

Luckystreak · 03/01/2024 02:47

I checked the app to see the results. The million pound winners get a visit, apparently!

There is a lovely thread in Money Matters if anyone wants to join.
It's been a rubbish investment for me, 4th month of possible wins and nothing at all ever.

LonelynSad · 03/01/2024 04:33

My Mum has had premium bonds since 1967 and not won a penny! I've been checking monthly for years now. They're all there, all active.
Pisses me off. Makes no sense

Happiestathome · 03/01/2024 04:53

@LonelynSad how much does she hold? If she has a very small holding it may be correct statistically speaking, that she’s yet to win. The odds are 21000:1 currently

Why does it make no sense? It's a raffle not a reward for how long you've had them

Read Martin Lewis @Luckystreak , he explains well why they aren't a good investment, in fact I don't think they are classed as an investment at all due to the random nature of the prizes

SausageCasseroles · 03/01/2024 05:08

Rubbish investment in our case. Only won 25 quid in the last year....

I think mse said for the amount we had invested it was likely the same as a savings account (there was a sweet spot I think..?) But the odds haven't been in our favour!

BetteDavisChin · 03/01/2024 05:46

My df won £10,000 earlier this year.

RecycleMePlease · 03/01/2024 05:50

I win pretty much bang on for the odds over the past couple of years - so 200 this month on FH, a bit more last month, a bit less other months - across the year it works out.

I keep them because I view it as instant cash savings crossed with a lottery ticket, even if it's not necessarily the best return I could get on the money.

SausageCasseroles · 03/01/2024 06:04

Wow Bette!!!

Yes we dont have FH which I guess makes a difference. I like the idea of free money 😁

SentfromSamsung · 03/01/2024 06:09

2 x £50 for me! Nice start to the year.

newoldfluff · 03/01/2024 06:10

Not me :( gutted

Autumntimeagain · 03/01/2024 06:39

3 small wins for me this month, £100, £50 and £25. I haven't had a month yet (since June 2023) when I've not won at least £100 per month.

Aurea · 03/01/2024 06:42

£750 for me on a holding of £30K 😊. I've won nearly £2k over the past six months although I have held more bonds and sold some every month.

InMySpareTime · 03/01/2024 06:50

There's a long running thread where people post their PB winnings:

PREMIUM BONDS DEC INTO 2024 http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/money-matters/4954917-premium-bonds-dec-into-2024

SquatBetty · 03/01/2024 06:53

I haven't won anything since April 2023 ☹️, used to win quite small amounts quite regularly prior to that

JacketAndJumpet · 03/01/2024 07:03

£150 on full holdings this month.

The more you hold, the more likely you are to get the average return, which is pretty good given it’s tax free. If you have a small amount and average luck, you probably won’t win anything at all for years.

cringingatchristmas · 03/01/2024 07:04

I had full holdings. £50 for me.

isitme111 · 03/01/2024 08:12

Nothing for me this month. I did have a few £25 and £50 and one £100 win last year though.

lap90 · 03/01/2024 08:22

They aren't necessarily a good investment which is why you have some people complaining and saying they are going to withdraw their money and stick it in a high interest account.

But for many people it's the possibility of 'what if...'. I'm in a fb group where people discuss premium bond wins and someone won 100K this month.
