Do you wear underwear in bed?

glossypeach · 02/01/2024 23:12

I’m just curious to see what people do. I grew up with my mum telling us not to wear underwear in bed to let our bits and pieces ‘breathe’. I’m now a lot older and I still apply that to myself and my child, plus it’s so much comfier and I cannot think of anything worse than sleeping with underwear on.

So:
YABU: I do wear underwear in bed
YANBU: I don’t wear underwear in bed

I used to sleep naked but now I have two small children I like to wear pants.

tomatoontoast · 02/01/2024 23:14

Yes but I change into fresh ones. I don't wear the ones I was wearing all day.

EC22 · 02/01/2024 23:15

I don’t wear anything to bed.
only wear knickers to bed when I’m on my period and I hate it.

angelikacpickles · 02/01/2024 23:15

Why would your genitals need to breathe?

minipie · 02/01/2024 23:16

I wear (cotton) pants to bed. I don’t wear PJs or anything else.

Notimeforaname · 02/01/2024 23:17

No. Just pj bottoms or shorts. If it's too warm I may sleep in just a pair of knickers then

Income · 02/01/2024 23:18

No. Neither does my DH. Although he sleeps in PJs bottoms or loose boxers. I tend to wear a nightie or nothing.

tillyandmilly · 02/01/2024 23:19

I wear a jersey cotton nightie - never worn pants to bed !

SgtJuneAckland · 02/01/2024 23:19

If I'm wearing pyjamas no, in the summer sometimes I sleep in boyshort type pants (fresh on for bed) and a vest

lavenderlou · 02/01/2024 23:20

No, unless I've got my period. I find it feels uncomfortable but might just be because I'm not used to it. I wear pyjamas but they are much looser around the bottom than knickers.

BashfulClam · 02/01/2024 23:20

Why do your bits need to breathe? Also if they can’t breathe through pants then how do they manage through a duvet etc?

SomeCatFromJapan · 02/01/2024 23:20

I sleep in an old time shirt and no pants. I like to get air around my parts.

Doggymummar · 02/01/2024 23:20

Pants and PJ's and my bra sometimes too.

OhMehGoddess · 02/01/2024 23:20

Both of us only wear a shirt/tank top.

A few medical explanations:

Gynaecologist who wrote V for Vagina: "If [the area] is constantly covered—especially by a fabric that's not moisture-wicking or absorbent—moisture collects," Dr Dweck explained. "That's a perfect breeding ground for bacteria or yeast."

"In terms of vaginal health, there is no need to wear underwear to bed, according to Dr. Kim Langdon OB/GYN. In fact, it is good to let your vagina get some air after being confined to your underwear all day. "

LikeIDontExist · 02/01/2024 23:24

I’m in the ‘you need to let your bits breathe’ camp.

@BashfulClam my duvet isn’t pressed against my undercarriage, there is air all around me.

Cryingbutstilltrying · 02/01/2024 23:24

I do now as I’ve had a ridiculous amount of discharge during peri. So I need the pants and pad overnight. Otherwise we’re talking clothing and bedding changed daily, and it’s just not nice. Dd prefers to wear undies in bed, her choice to be comfy. Ds does not.

premiur · 02/01/2024 23:25

I hate the sensation of discharge on naked parts so I wear my pants to bed.

Why do they need to ‘breathe’ surely if it was essential then you’d have to air them 24 hours? I just don’t understand the need to breathe’

Knickers are generally absorbent though. Maybe if you are wearing polyester underwear, but even those usually have a cotton gusset.

Josette77 · 02/01/2024 23:31

Another one who wants to air it out. I never have discharge so that's not an issue. I feel fresher without.

I found when I was younger and wore underwear to bed there would be a slight odour in the morning. Not horrid but it was there.

Now I wake up fresh as a daisy as I shower every night.

HundredMilesAnHour · 02/01/2024 23:31

I usually sleep naked unless it's very cold and then I wear cotton knickers to bed. The foof equivalent of wearing a hat when it's cold to stop the heat escaping. 😂

2chocolateoranges · 02/01/2024 23:31

I don’t understand the letting your bits breathe!

I wear pants and pyjamas , shortie ones in the summer and long sleeved, long legged in the winter.

change my pjs every 2 nights, I’d feel I’d have to wash my bedding every other day if I slept naked!

Allinadayswork80 · 02/01/2024 23:33

I do as I’ve always had discharge which I hate. Also hate being cold sp I wear pj’s too. Plus if I need to get up in the night I’d rather have something on.
