Do you wear underwear in bed?

glossypeach · 02/01/2024 23:12

I’m just curious to see what people do. I grew up with my mum telling us not to wear underwear in bed to let our bits and pieces ‘breathe’. I’m now a lot older and I still apply that to myself and my child, plus it’s so much comfier and I cannot think of anything worse than sleeping with underwear on.

So:
YABU: I do wear underwear in bed
YANBU: I don’t wear underwear in bed

I sleep nude.

And if a burglar doesn't have the common decency to give us a heads up that he's popping round, any trauma received is entirely on him!

Thecatmaster · 03/01/2024 11:05

Big comfy cotton pants to bed under pyjamas. I consider it to be pretty revolting not to wear them if you are wearing PJs or if you sleep in the nude. I always wear clean pants to bed too.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/01/2024 11:06

Always wear knickers.

To the women who don't wear knickers, do you not ovulate? A pantyliner in some cotton knickers makes me feel fresh.

I ovulate but do not need to wear knickers during this time while in bed. That is me personally though, others will be different of course.

ganglion · 03/01/2024 11:28

I wear a long sleeved top for bed as co sleeping with breastfed baby so need to keep my arms warm.

I don't wear underwear, day or night. Not for any particular reason - I'll have to start to again once my periods return.

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/01/2024 11:29

Pants and t shirt

TwentyTwentyFourIsHere · 03/01/2024 11:30

Naked sleeper here.

I know it's illogical but I defo think it's better if my bits breathe Grin

Disturbia81 · 03/01/2024 11:31

Always, don't like the feeling of everything flopping everywhere, same with bra 😆

Knickers yes but a bra, I've whipped that off as soon I get home haha. Saying that all mine are wired. Do you have comfortable bras?

Disturbia81 · 03/01/2024 11:54

@oneflewoverthe Mine hurt if I don't wear one! For bed I wear non wired ones

I would have to change my sheets more too if I slept naked. I am a very clean person, wear 2 pairs knickers a day but stuff oozes and sweats like any human being 🙈

Lookingforbiscoff · 03/01/2024 11:58

It's never occurred to me before but next time there's a thread on how often you should change your sheets I think this should be included for context

That’s true, I also think people should factor in if they have pets lying/sleeping on their bed too.

Some people will mock others for not changing sheets enough or doing it too frequently, but there’s clearly such wide variations in what gets on each persons bedsheets which will impact how often they need to be changed.

WellWillWoll · 03/01/2024 12:25

I wear clean knickers to bed.

Would have to change my sheets every day if I slept with my bits out and I definitely cba with that!!

Can confirm after 50+ years, my vag has not died from lack of oxygen.

Grin ^^ this and I'm 55+

Char65 · 03/01/2024 18:59

Yes. I'm quite feminine and always wear a nice nightdress, I usually get undressed for bed and come down stairs in my nightie and dressing gown and watch TV for a while with DH. Its nice and cosy. DH is the same - PJs and a a quality dressing gown. Just needs a cigarette on a holder and he'd be Noel Coward!😂

43ontherocksporfavor · 03/01/2024 19:57

@WellWillWoll why would you have to change your sheets daily?

WellWillWoll · 03/01/2024 20:03

@43ontherocksporfavor

For the same reason that I wear clean underwear every day? 🤷‍♀️

43ontherocksporfavor · 03/01/2024 20:04

But covers aren’t wrapped around your genitals! They don’t have contact with the duvet or sheet.

Exactly lol. The sheets don’t even touch that part so why would they need to be washed daily?! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ultravox · 03/01/2024 22:35

I don’t - much prefer wearing looser things to sleep in or just being naked in the summer

I’m like a snail, I’d leave a literal trail on the bottom sheet. Duvet cover would
be ok.

It depends on people's sleeping habits. Some sleep with a pillow between their legs, some with the duvet, some sleep in a position similar to the recovery position but flatter (and open leg ) so contact is made and so on. Plus variety in discharge and other things.

Diamondcurtains · 03/01/2024 22:39

Yes. Clean underwear after my bath. Knickers and bra top and pj’s. I’m post menopause though and sweat buckets at night so usually wake up with no pj’s as I’ve taken them off in the night. My mum was the same and we never put underwear in under out pyjamas as kids but I’ve always put underwear in my kids and they wear underwear now they’re older.

Big comfy cotton pants to bed under pyjamas. I consider it to be pretty revolting not to wear them if you are wearing PJs or if you sleep in the nude. I always wear clean pants to bed too.

I think @Thecatmaster has reached the crux of the matter. There’s that bit where some other superhero tells the Incredible Hulk, “Now would be a good time to get angry,“ and he responds, “That’s my secret. I’m always angry.”

That’s my secret: I’m always wearing comfy granny pants. So I can easily wear pants to bed. I think if you’re wearing pants that are made out of some slick material so that you don’t have knicker lines through your trousers or if you’re wearing the kind of knickers that are micro thongs, or have decorative lace on them or… But if you’re already wearing enormous granny pants that could be mistaken for a duvet cover while hanging out the laundry and they’re made of 98% cotton and something like 2% elastene, then I suspect it doesn’t make much of a difference if you sleep with them on.

And obviously, it has the added bonus of being incredibly sexy. I mean, I practically have to bar the door to keep the women (I’ve given up on men) away when I’m wearing knickers that practically go from my knees to my belly button.

Grammarnut · 04/01/2024 19:58

I usually wear nothing, but lately because house has been cold (boiler issue) I have dug out some nightdresses (I used to wear Edwardian style cotton ones but they have all disappeared) to wear - I like lacy ones for preference. I used to wear pants and a night dress when I was a teenager but gave it up when I went off to uni. I can see no reason to wear pants to bed and I don't like anything tight either. Sexy, yes.

sleepysleepytired · 04/01/2024 20:08

@5YearsLeft I've been wearing giant granny pants since I had my son in 2020. The higher the better! I can't stand things or lacy underwear either. So comfortable for the day and sleeping in. I find it pretty gross to sleep with no knickers if you're not wearing anything else in bed. I'd be inclined to change the sheets daily if that was the case!
