Do you wear underwear in bed?

I’m just curious to see what people do. I grew up with my mum telling us not to wear underwear in bed to let our bits and pieces ‘breathe’. I’m now a lot older and I still apply that to myself and my child, plus it’s so much comfier and I cannot think of anything worse than sleeping with underwear on.

So:
YABU: I do wear underwear in bed
YANBU: I don’t wear underwear in bed

A few medical explanations:

Gynaecologist who wrote V for Vagina: "If [the area] is constantly covered—especially by a fabric that's not moisture-wicking or absorbent—moisture collects," Dr Dweck explained. "That's a perfect breeding ground for bacteria or yeast."

"In terms of vaginal health, there is no need to wear underwear to bed, according to Dr. Kim Langdon OB/GYN. In fact, it is good to let your vagina get some air after being confined to your underwear all day. "

And yet I’ve always worn underwear to bed and only ever had yeast infections shortly after giving birth. Odd.

I never wear underwear to bed but according to my ex (when we was together) that meant I “always wanted sex” so I thought it was unusual so interesting to see so many other people don’t 🤔 he made me seem like some weirdo

No I sleep naked unless I'm staying at someone's house or at an air BnB with friends or whatever, and that's more to remind me not to walk around naked if I get up in the night, I'm not expecting them in my room

Clean pair of cotton big pants after my evening bath with oversized cotton t shirt.
Ever since I had kids 30years ago

@sleepysleepytired Yes! And it’s funny because my grandmum (who raised me) told me the EXACT same thing as OP’s mum, that I shouldn’t wear pants to bed because “down there” needed to breathe. But I always felt more comfortable wearing pants, so I always did. But I’ve also always worn cotton pants. And as far as I know, my vulva and vagina don’t have their own set of lungs so I doubt they need to breathe. Now, they DO need to not be trapped in moisture, but I’ve never had that problem due to the cotton pants. I mean sure, I think everyone should wear what they’re comfortable wearing, and sleep how they’re comfortable sleeping. But I just can’t imagine being comfortable day or night in underwear that’s covered in lace which could be used to sand the finish off patio furniture. I’ll just stick to my giant cotton knicks that could double as a parachute.

Just knickers and t shirt/pyjama jumper for me. DH wears shorts and t-shirts PJs or normal PJs. If it's hot he just sleeps in briefs. Both think genitals and arse on the sheets is gross

NancyJoan · 04/01/2024 20:38

knickers and a sleep bra under my pyjamas.

I don’t wear anything to bed.
only wear knickers to bed when I’m on my period and I hate it.

Yeah same here. I said this on another post and got piled on. Saying I must have smelly bits as it was perfectly hygienic so sleep naked.

anythinginapinch · 04/01/2024 20:43

Fuck no

LangMayYerLumReek2024 · 04/01/2024 20:44

No. Cotton nightie that's all.

kitsuneghost · 04/01/2024 20:45

FedUpMumof10YO · 04/01/2024 20:46

Yeah but at least you're not rubbing your bare bits against the sheets.

Fitandfree · 04/01/2024 20:50

Slip nightie only. I only wear that because I have a DS, who likes to get in with me sometimes. Pre DS, and when he was little, I'd slept naked since age 18. For those questioning letting your bits breathe - letting the air circulate helps avoid thrush for those who are prone.

Mirrorballsocial · 04/01/2024 20:52

I don't. But I have very heavy periods so I have to use a pad and tampon during the night on my period. So then I have to wear knickers and I find it so annoying!

professionalnomad · 04/01/2024 20:53

Not under pyjamas
Fresh cotton pants under a nightie

VickyEadieofThigh · 04/01/2024 20:55

I sleep naked and have done for many years.

greenacrylicpaint · 04/01/2024 20:58

It's obviously not as loads of people say otherwise.

Bananaramram · 04/01/2024 21:00

Depends on where I am in my cycle. Period pants or cotton pants if I have to. Otherwise, let it breathe!

eatdrinkandbemerry · 04/01/2024 21:04

No unless I'm on my period

caringcarer · 04/01/2024 21:09

No nothing in bed.

Humbugg · 04/01/2024 21:38

I wear long old man style pjs with no knickers underneath. Like to have air flowing around a bit
