Do you wear underwear in bed?

glossypeach · 02/01/2024 23:12

I’m just curious to see what people do. I grew up with my mum telling us not to wear underwear in bed to let our bits and pieces ‘breathe’. I’m now a lot older and I still apply that to myself and my child, plus it’s so much comfier and I cannot think of anything worse than sleeping with underwear on.

So:
YABU: I do wear underwear in bed
YANBU: I don’t wear underwear in bed

Nope wear nothing in bed find it to restricting.

DustyLee123 · 03/01/2024 08:06

I can’t sleep without knickers on.

SpongeBob2022 · 03/01/2024 08:08

Vote looks evenly split so far despite most comments being skewed towards no underwear.

I wear underwear and PJs. Wouldn't feel comfortable any other way but it's just personal preference...I don't care what others do. Im really not worried about the 'airing' thing. Also regardless of underwear, I tend to sleep with my duvet tucked under my arms so without PJs I feel like my sheets would smell really quickly.

It's never occurred to me before but next time there's a thread on how often you should change your sheets I think this should be included for context!

Beautifulbonbon · 03/01/2024 08:10

I never wear underwear in bed- it feels so nice to feel free of it. I don't even like wearing it when awake

PurpleOrchid42 · 03/01/2024 08:12

I wear knickers and pyjamas. and sometimes socks too! 🤣 Then I wake up boiling and end up just in top and knickers.

EBearhug · 03/01/2024 08:12

No. Well, I am currently because period, but usually nothing. Silk PJs if away.

43ontherocksporfavor · 03/01/2024 08:13

Never. When I was having periods I wore them the first few days. It’s why I favour night shirts or nightdresses as I can’t be washing pjs every day.I shower before bed. Sheets changed once a fortnight.

I wear no underwear, Pj bottoms and a cami top/t shirt. I change sheets once a week. I shower daily. No need to change sheets more than once a week- my sheets never smell, ever.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 03/01/2024 08:14

I don’t (unless on my period). I just hate the feeling.

Perhapsanorhertimewouldbebetter · 03/01/2024 08:15

Our house is cold so I wear underwear and pyjamas to bed, sometimes thermals too. I put clean underwear and jammies on every night though.

IAmAnIdiot123 · 03/01/2024 08:18

Yes I wear cotton pants under pj's or nightie. I have a shower before bed then put fresh ones on

It's possible they do smell a bit sometimes, but you're just used to it so don't notice.

(A weekly change sounds more than enough imho, just find it hard to believe sheets have never ever had some sort of odour).

The amount of extra laundry going on for 14 pairs of pants a week and 7 pairs of pyjamas!
My sheets are due a change because they’ve been on 2 weeks. They don’t smell. Neither of us smell either!!We shower before bed and we don’t sleep naked. I change them more often in summer.

PaperDoIIs · 03/01/2024 08:24

Yes. I sleep in knickers and a tshirt.

If you don't wear pants or PJs to bed you're surely washing sheets more often though?

Also, I need PJs for warmth while sleeping and they don't feel clean for a second night, so they end up being washed.

43ontherocksporfavor · 03/01/2024 08:26

No I wear a nightshirt. I sleep on my side.

Beautifulbonbon · 03/01/2024 08:27

They honestly don't- even when I have been away from the house for several says and come back they don't! I change PJ bottoms daily and same with tops, I do use antibacterial washing powder so maybe that helps.

Gynaecologist who wrote V for Vagina: "If [the area] is constantly covered—especially by a fabric that's not moisture-wicking or absorbent—moisture collects," Dr Dweck explained. "That's a perfect breeding ground for bacteria or yeast."
While I’m not disputing the science, I never let my fanny “breathe” she’s under lock and key, never had a yeast infection 🤷‍♀️

HellsToilet · 03/01/2024 08:32

My genitals don't have lungs so I wear underpants to bed. It also means I can wear my pjs more than once.

Like I said, you might not smell it.
I'm not saying they smell all the time, but perhaps on ocassion.

43ontherocksporfavor · 03/01/2024 08:37

No they don’t. People are different. Some people smell of sweat despite showering. We never do.

KnittedCardi · 03/01/2024 08:41

I have only ever worn pants and nothing else!

I do now as I’ve had a ridiculous amount of discharge during peri. So I need the pants and pad overnight. Otherwise we’re talking clothing and bedding changed daily, and it’s just not nice. Dd prefers to wear undies in bed, her choice to be comfy. Ds does not.

Same here ☹ DP still sleeps naked lol

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 03/01/2024 08:46

If I'm wearing pyjamas then definitely. Otherwise I'd want clean pyjama bottoms every day. If I'm wearing a nightie, I suppose there's no real reason why I have to wear pants, but old habits die hard. I never sleep naked, have tried it once or twice and it just didn't feel comfortable (physically, not psychologically) - same as I like to have a thin layer of covers over me even when it's hot, just a sheet if necessary.

Sylver75 · 03/01/2024 08:58

In winter, I swear I wear as much in bed as during the day. Clean knickers for bed, long nightie down to my toes, fluffy socks and if it's very cold, a pair of leggings. My bedroom is the kind where you can see your breath on a frosty morning.

The nude sleepers - your choice but if I slept nude, I'd imagine the sheets would be absorbing the kind of discharge that knickers absorb. It would give me the ick.
