Do you wear underwear in bed?

glossypeach · 02/01/2024 23:12

I’m just curious to see what people do. I grew up with my mum telling us not to wear underwear in bed to let our bits and pieces ‘breathe’. I’m now a lot older and I still apply that to myself and my child, plus it’s so much comfier and I cannot think of anything worse than sleeping with underwear on.

So:
YABU: I do wear underwear in bed
YANBU: I don’t wear underwear in bed

I sleep in just underwear. I’m aware it’s nuts but I get an irrational worry about spiders crawling on my bits / bugs landing on them (also like sleeping with window open) if totally naked which freaks me out! 🙈

Lookingforbiscoff · 03/01/2024 00:12

Sometimes! Usually wear underwear and pyjamas. When I don’t wear underwear, I usually only feel comfortable if I’ve showered and then got straight into a clean pair of pjs. As I tend to shower in the mornings that usually doesn’t happen and therefore more often than not I wear underwear to bed. @2chocolateoranges yes I feel i’d need to change my bedding every night if I slept naked too unless I’ve got into it freshly showered.

A lot of women even wear bras to bed on a regular basis, that’s one thing I don’t usually do. A close friend of mine with a big chest swears by it, I have a big boobs too and I sometimes wonder if they’d have been more perkier if I had been a nighttime bra wearer 😂

TempleOfBloom · 03/01/2024 00:15

I sleep with nothing on.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 03/01/2024 00:18

Cotton undies all the way! I couldn’t sleep comfortably without them on.

Yes - fabric in to crevices that wearing pants prevents 😅

One small adjustment in sleeping position and you have a wedgie. Definitely not for me!

This is also why I dislike wearing PJs in general. I only started wearing them recently as I was given some as a gift, and the jury is still out. The fabric gets wound around your leg and it's really annoying 😆

burgerandoats · 03/01/2024 00:23

I was but then it got too warm so I took it off

blackpanth · 03/01/2024 00:25

Nope just wear jarmies

MrsToothyBitch · 03/01/2024 00:25

I sleep naked, much more comfy - have done since about 16. I get too hot and don't sleep properly otherwise. I only wear pants to bed on occasion on the heaviest parts of my period if I need a pad and I do feel grotty for it the next morning.

The only real exceptions to the nudity are if I'm away over night and feel it's polite or needed to cover up- eg room sharing on a girls trip. I have a couple of lightweight slips I use as nighties for this purpose, and staying in other peoples houses I usually suck it up and wear cotton knickers to bed.

HoHoHoliday · 03/01/2024 00:29

I would prefer to sleep with nothing on to feel free but I've always had a lot of discharge so I need pants on.

You have to try tucking the bottom of your PJ bottoms inside your socks! It works and you don't feel it!

Peckahminn11 · 03/01/2024 00:31

Nope. Just pjs

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 03/01/2024 00:54

Usually sleep naked but I'm 3 weeks post partum so still wearing pads! Hate it!

Crishell · 03/01/2024 02:52

Nah. I can't let it all loose. It feels like I've released a beast.

Pants in bed to contain it all!

MrsHughesPinny · 03/01/2024 02:57

Nothing, a nightie or loose shorts. No pants. I’d feel all hot and confined wearing pants in bed. I take both bra and knicks off as soon as I get home and into my comfies!

Saggypants · 03/01/2024 03:02

Cotton pants and a super soft bralette.

I absolutely can't stand PJs or nighties, I get tangled up in them. If it's freezing I'll wear a fitted vest.

Saggypants · 03/01/2024 03:02

Can confirm after 50+ years, my vag has not died from lack of oxygen.

DoAWheelie · 03/01/2024 03:06

I only wear them on my period as I use pads. I start getting yeast infections after a week or so of wearing knickers at night even though I only own cotton ones.

Everyone is different though, some will be healthier down there with them, some without. Do what works best for you.

kiwiaddict · 03/01/2024 03:11

I do the same as you OP, it's nice to be underwear free for a few hours - actually I can't sleep well with underwear on!

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 03/01/2024 03:24

My mom born in 1930, taught me born in 1950, who taught my children born in 1980, who taught their children born in 2010 that bits need to “breath”.
Fully understanding it’s about body heat and moisture not respiration.

liveforsummer · 03/01/2024 07:31

Apart from anything else, it's so much less washing to pop a pair of pants in the wash each morning than pj bottoms as hopefully people aren't re wearing them

LadyGeorginaSmythe · 03/01/2024 07:53

2chocolateoranges · 02/01/2024 23:31

I don’t understand the letting your bits breathe!

I wear pants and pyjamas , shortie ones in the summer and long sleeved, long legged in the winter.

change my pjs every 2 nights, I’d feel I’d have to wash my bedding every other day if I slept naked!

This is pretty much me word for word!

1 DS wears underwear under his pj's, one DS doesn't. DD does.
DH wears pj shorts no undies and doesn't understand why I do! I wear pj's 2 nights and would want fresh ones daily if I didn't wear pants. I already have insane volumes of washing!

Also, all the naked sleepers? What do you do when kids come in or call for you in the night? I assume naked sleepers aren't co-sleepers? As my 12yo is in bed with me now!

CatMadam · 03/01/2024 07:56

I do as I sleep with a pillow between my legs and like to have something between that and me lips 🤷‍♀️

LadyGeorginaSmythe · 03/01/2024 07:59

Jessforless · 03/01/2024 00:01

people always think I’m weird that I sleep in a bra… but I’ve never found it weird to sleep wearing underwear. I thought that was quite normal.

A special bed time bra? Or the one you've worn all day? I couldn't sleep in my underwired ones! I could in a soft crop top thing but also don't see the point.

HoneyBadger525 · 03/01/2024 08:03

Oh I’m like fully dressed. Always cotton pyjamas. My DH sleeps naked but I can’t imagine having no underwear on. I like the window open at night for the fresh air but to be all snuggled and dressed under the blanket. If there’s a fire or a burglar I want to be ready to go lol. I hate the feeling of my thighs touching in the night, they have to be covered or I can’t sleep. In the summer I wear pyjamas with shorts.

EarringsandLipstick · 03/01/2024 08:05

The 'bits need to breathe' idea has me perplexed. Why? Any more than any other body part.

Otherwise it's obviously personal preference. I have to wear pants & PJs, and socks, to bed.
