Car parked in my assigned spot, what else can I do?

A parking one???

I live in a compound with several blocks of flats and assigned parking, clearly displayed in white painted number corresponding to your flat on each spot. There are however no lines separating the spaces, it relies on common sense Confused to park in a way that allows you to exit with a car parked next to you and vice versa.

I live in a section of 6 blocks, with 3 flats on either side of the road and parking spaces along the front of the buildings in sets of 2 (with hedges between).

In case it matters, I am the only one with a car in my set of 2 spaces, and we have visitor's parking that can accommodate 6 cars.

Since arriving home from a trip abroad 3 days ago, there has been a car parked in my spot. Not only that, but it has been so badly parked with a huge gap between the passenger side and the hedge that another car cannot fit into the neighbour's space.

I left a note wedged under the rear tire of their car as it's been raining nonstop since I arrived, saying that they were parked in my spot and please can park elsewhere. Btw, I was able to park in the visitors just fine, there is always space.

The next morning I left for work to find that they re-parked the car closer to the hedge, but still sat in my spot. I went off to work and did an overnight so only returned tonight.

The car is still in my spot, and once again badly parked so I can't even park next to them if I wanted. I'm at my wits end. How can people be so selfish? I've had to park near the top of the compound and lug my bags back and forth in the rain, but it shouldn't even matter as I should be able to park in my own spot!

I've sent an email off to the property management company but don't have much faith in even receiving a response or if they can even do anything.

What else can I do?

  • I rang the buzzers on the building in front of the space (which is the building next to me) and my own building. Only 4 people answered and none of them know who the car belongs to.
  • I also tried the car doors in the hopes of setting off an alarm and getting the fucker outside Blush but they don't have one.

Any other ideas?

Maybe try typing the registration into the DVLA in case the car is registered to the address and then could drop note to the address to explain? Otherwise Bollards in your space?

You actually think you get any old randomers address from the DVLA website with just a number plate?!

I’m guessing Pamela Paris has a guilty conscience, been parking where you shouldn’t? 😂😂

Or renting out other people's spaces when she shouldn't

anyolddinosaur · 03/01/2024 22:08

DVLA will provide you with a name and address for the owner if you have a legitimate reason to ask for it. I dont know what counts as a legitimate reason but parking companies can get details. There is a fee.

Put up a large sign saying parking charge £100 a day. That will indicate it's not a space they have reserved. If you see them park there again you have a legitimate reason to ask DVLA for name and address details and you can then take them to the small claims court for £100 per day.

Jeannie88 · 03/01/2024 22:49

While doing all the contacting, put up a waterproof sign to say no parking other than for owned space for vehicle? When it comes down to it the old signpost way can help x

Thank you for your wise words. Happy new year.

I suspect @PamelaParis probably owns the offending car!!

DadBodAlready · 03/01/2024 23:12

You could always have the car towed, especially if you can prove the space is yours.

Which would cost OP money. The idiotic fantasies this thread’s producing are unbelievable.

Just claim another space. My sons have private parking with their flat and about half the spaces are empty so they just park wherever is free.

Maybe not that simple. Ours is numbered. If we parked elsewhere, the factors would be on to us immediately.

How? What recovery company would break the law like that?

This comes up on all of these threads, have you not read any before?

😁

LonelyAndLostToo · 04/01/2024 06:21

How about 100 postits across fhe windscreen, covering it in its entirety, each one saying “this is a private space”

will take a bit of time but will be as annoying af to take off and they must get the message in the end…. Repetition and all that

SinnerBoy · 04/01/2024 06:24

If she has a misbehaved child, she could get them to write:

Don't park in my spot, bastard!

on the 100 post it notes.

That only works if there are lots of free spaces (and then obv it's not an issue), otherwise then you're the ahole too!

As I stated in the OP, the space next to me is usually free as the owner doesn't have a car, but the badly parked car meant I couldn't fit.

Apart from that I don't know who has a car and who doesn't but that's beside the point; even someone without a car could have a guest that they want to use their spot or they could rent a car.

It's selfish to just assume that because a space is free, it's free to me to use.

Next time write in massive letters on the windscreen in lipstick

YOU’RE IN MY FUCKING SPACE

Ohhoho · 04/01/2024 10:01

Well they obviously aren’t in OP’s case
