Car parked in my assigned spot, what else can I do?

A parking one???

I live in a compound with several blocks of flats and assigned parking, clearly displayed in white painted number corresponding to your flat on each spot. There are however no lines separating the spaces, it relies on common sense Confused to park in a way that allows you to exit with a car parked next to you and vice versa.

I live in a section of 6 blocks, with 3 flats on either side of the road and parking spaces along the front of the buildings in sets of 2 (with hedges between).

In case it matters, I am the only one with a car in my set of 2 spaces, and we have visitor's parking that can accommodate 6 cars.

Since arriving home from a trip abroad 3 days ago, there has been a car parked in my spot. Not only that, but it has been so badly parked with a huge gap between the passenger side and the hedge that another car cannot fit into the neighbour's space.

I left a note wedged under the rear tire of their car as it's been raining nonstop since I arrived, saying that they were parked in my spot and please can park elsewhere. Btw, I was able to park in the visitors just fine, there is always space.

The next morning I left for work to find that they re-parked the car closer to the hedge, but still sat in my spot. I went off to work and did an overnight so only returned tonight.

The car is still in my spot, and once again badly parked so I can't even park next to them if I wanted. I'm at my wits end. How can people be so selfish? I've had to park near the top of the compound and lug my bags back and forth in the rain, but it shouldn't even matter as I should be able to park in my own spot!

I've sent an email off to the property management company but don't have much faith in even receiving a response or if they can even do anything.

What else can I do?

  • I rang the buzzers on the building in front of the space (which is the building next to me) and my own building. Only 4 people answered and none of them know who the car belongs to.
  • I also tried the car doors in the hopes of setting off an alarm and getting the fucker outside Blush but they don't have one.

Any other ideas?

You need to chill the fuck out. There are plenty other spaces available for you to park in and the car will move eventually.

Idiotic! I have plenty of money, that doesn't give anyone the right to it, though this being MN there'll be those who think they do!

ArcticBells · 02/01/2024 05:42

Look - just move your car now and that will end it.

Bottle of olive oil on the windscreen

<shocked gasp>. 😦

Olive oil costs a fortune! And it would be such a waste.

Have you got any old chip fat, OP?

Fraaahnces · 02/01/2024 07:03

Birdseed… lots of birdseed.

Datafan55 · 02/01/2024 07:04

Take photos of it in your spot/badly parked.

Passingthethyme · 02/01/2024 07:10

Can you get it towed. I'd actually go amd bang on the doors and find out who's car it is and make them move it. The cheek! If you can definitely block it in.

sashh · 02/01/2024 07:14

When I had this I called the police, they called the registered owner and he moved the car.

🍪

It’s you that’s parked there, isn’t it Pamela…?

HmmmIAmPondering · 02/01/2024 07:44

@LizzieFromTheForest
You must have been devastated for your neighbour 😁

Oppositioblue · 02/01/2024 08:05

Totally invested in this now. Hope you get some help getting it moved OP.

Why?

My property comes with a parking space. It's in the price.

Why should anyone have to park elsewhere when they pay for their own numbered spot.

LlynTegid · 02/01/2024 08:10

It won't get immediate action, but I'd let the DVLA know they have an eyesight issue, being unable to see a number on the road.

WrigglyDonCat · 02/01/2024 08:11

Whilst am fan of the fire option another poster has mentioned it just leads to too many questions. I mean, we all know how easy it is to pop to the local petrol station to get a couple of litres of unleaded for your lawn mower, forget to replace the cap on the can, repeatedly trip on your way back, sloshing said E10 all over the offending car, then in your shock the fag hanging out of your mouth drops to the floor... But for some reason the cops never seem to see these things as the honest accident they are.

So, lets get modern. Give the police a call and tell them the car owner has put some hurty words online about you, or perhaps used the wrong pronouns, or even better, they did both.

Before you've even got off the phone, at least 20 of His Majesty's finest helmets will be on the scene and will rapidly locate the owner. If you get lucky, they might be old school and drag the offender into an alley to give them a little bit of the old 'Sweeney' treatment.

Hopefully you will get the chance to tell the perp not to park in your space while all this is going on. At the very least you'll know who it is for next time.

😂😂😂

Sadly. most police buildings seem to be built on the same level as the pavement these days, and hardly anyone "trips and falls down the steps leading up to the station" any more.

When was that? 1980? The police here would laugh at you.

Noroomontheshelf · 02/01/2024 08:28

If it’s a numbered spot, the person can presumably work out where OP lives, so I wouldn’t be doing any of these revenge fantasies. Just sort it out civilly.

I didn't speak to an actual police officer (I don't think) and yes I was surprised, I'd called to ask what I could do.

Wolfpa · 02/01/2024 08:44

Are your flats looked after by a management company? I would talk to them first. I would also check the covenants as I wouldn’t be surprised if there was something in them saying you can’t sub let the spaces.

Yea exactly this was another concern of mine. The number corresponds to the flat.
