Car parked in my assigned spot, what else can I do?

A parking one???

I live in a compound with several blocks of flats and assigned parking, clearly displayed in white painted number corresponding to your flat on each spot. There are however no lines separating the spaces, it relies on common sense Confused to park in a way that allows you to exit with a car parked next to you and vice versa.

I live in a section of 6 blocks, with 3 flats on either side of the road and parking spaces along the front of the buildings in sets of 2 (with hedges between).

In case it matters, I am the only one with a car in my set of 2 spaces, and we have visitor's parking that can accommodate 6 cars.

Since arriving home from a trip abroad 3 days ago, there has been a car parked in my spot. Not only that, but it has been so badly parked with a huge gap between the passenger side and the hedge that another car cannot fit into the neighbour's space.

I left a note wedged under the rear tire of their car as it's been raining nonstop since I arrived, saying that they were parked in my spot and please can park elsewhere. Btw, I was able to park in the visitors just fine, there is always space.

The next morning I left for work to find that they re-parked the car closer to the hedge, but still sat in my spot. I went off to work and did an overnight so only returned tonight.

The car is still in my spot, and once again badly parked so I can't even park next to them if I wanted. I'm at my wits end. How can people be so selfish? I've had to park near the top of the compound and lug my bags back and forth in the rain, but it shouldn't even matter as I should be able to park in my own spot!

I've sent an email off to the property management company but don't have much faith in even receiving a response or if they can even do anything.

What else can I do?

  • I rang the buzzers on the building in front of the space (which is the building next to me) and my own building. Only 4 people answered and none of them know who the car belongs to.
  • I also tried the car doors in the hopes of setting off an alarm and getting the fucker outside Blush but they don't have one.

Any other ideas?

Let one of their tyres down

TinkerTiger · 02/01/2024 08:58

Update: When I left this morning, Pamela up above had moved the car! I'm hoping that's it for now. Still waiting on the response from the management company to see if they offer to do anything as it would be good in the future, especially as sometimes people do park inconsiderately and make it hard/impossible for me to park in my own spot.

Here is a photo of the offending vehicle which I took last night to include in my email to the property manager.

Well Pamela eventually saw sense then

NuriaES · 02/01/2024 09:12

For next time large stickers with your message on are great. I've watched a car owner have to scrape it off the screen before being able to drive away. Inconvenient.

The contact with the management company is the right one though, especially as there seemed to be a number of spaces on Just Park. Can owners do this in a managed block?
Or maybe it is the management company letting spaces…

SquashPenguin · 02/01/2024 09:15

If they like your space so much, let their tyres down. Then they can stay even longer 😆

User562377 · 02/01/2024 09:21

Can't you ask the management company to paint lines? Not having spaces properly marked out seems a bit mad. If there are 3 or 4 in a row how does the person in the middle know where to park so everyone else can fit in?

Glad you're sorted for now though. Not being able to park your car at the end of a long day is so annoying.

MinnieGirl · 02/01/2024 09:30

How do you know who moved the car? Did you see her?
So at least you now know who to talk to if they park there again.
Can you get a penguin bollard installed? And a private parking sign.
And speak to the management company, as you will be claiming a refund if it happens again so they need to take measures…

HowToSaveAWife · 02/01/2024 10:06

Glad it's sorted now but I would be tempted to send a bunch of flowers with a note saying:

Dear Pamela,

Thanks ever so much for finally moving your car from my space - it did take quite a while, but I can appreciate it's difficult to navigate with your head so far up your own arse. I must commend you on being so thoroughly inconsiderate, it's quite impressive.

Regards etc.,

Love this!

If no oil, Vaseline’s even better - and cheaper !!

We have parking permits which don't give us a space just the right to use the road.. Main bit was busy so dh parked on the side bit.. 2 spaces which those doors assume ownership of... Whole 5 litre tub of pva glue on dh's windscreen.. Wish we had returned the idea when the cf parked on 'our' bit during road closures...

DramaticBananas · 02/01/2024 10:18

Not having the parking spaces marked out can't help. We had this in my flats and my neighbour got a tin of white paint, measured out the spaces evenly and painted a small white line on the kerb part only to show where each space was. No one minded and it was a relief to have a small parking guide.

Please dont stick a large, hard to remove sticker over the windscreen as a PP suggested! I'd parked perfectly legally on a public road to visit the nearby Council offices and a local resident pissed off at having people park outside their house stuck one on my car. It took ages to remove and didn't fully come off and was distracting to drive with. I will get my revenge one day.

Maddy70 · 02/01/2024 10:22

Get a bollard or put a warning triangle in Your space

But there's a huge difference between somebody who would have liked to use the public space that you got to first (or just randomly has so little going on in their world that they have the available headspace to care about anybody parking there) and somebody who actually has exclusive rights to their own private space that has been taken by a trespasser.

Wow, you weren't kidding. Pamela really can't park!

They’ll be back……………….

Have you thought about a nude revenge wiggle? 🤣 If you know, you know 😉

Has there ever been a parking thread where the guilty party hasn't outed themselves by scolding the OP?

MarvellousMinnie · 02/01/2024 11:21

@PamelaParis yawn. Another poster who just has to have a go at the OP for the sake of it...even though everyone else says they're not unreasonable as it's SO obvious. It's getting tedious.

OP glad you're sorted. I have similar issues so know how irritating it can be!

WombatChocolate · 02/01/2024 11:39

If they park there again, the note to leave in a bag is;

’You have already been asked not to park in my private space. I have taken a photo of your vehicle and will be contacting the Police who will tow and impound your car, which will then cost you several hundred pounds to recover, if your vehicle is still here in the morning or is parked here again.’

Teledeluxe · 02/01/2024 11:40

PamelaParis is clearly the biggest Asshole is this thread. It had to be said!

Will that actually happen?

You must have been devastated for your neighbour 😁

NonPlayerCharacter · 02/01/2024 11:40

No, it probably won’t, but the concern it might would stop most people from parking in that spot again.

The Police generally don’t get involved in parking disputes in private car parks and compounds. They would get involved if you had a driveway and someone parked across it blocking you in. Council parking enforcement might also ticket someone who parked across a driveway stopping someone getting onto their own drive, esp if it was a related matter. Different councils have slightly different thresholds for what they will respond to.

Given this has happened in an area where there is plenty of visitor parking and other empty private spaces too, a firm note will ensure most people parking in the wrong spot will go and park elsewhere. It would be easy for them to park elsewhere.

Perhaps a note should include a map and indicate where visitor spots are. Sometimes people always arrive in the dark and if not familiar with a place can’t see easily where designated or visitor spaces are. I’m not excusing it, but sometimes people haven’t deliberately set out to cause problems and nick spaces, but due to errors.

Firm words in a note, plus saying a photograph has been taken and will be sent to the authorities such as Police, parking enforcement or management company is usually enough to stop most people doing it again, especially when other parking spaces are available.

Bloody annoying though!

Really? Google told me police wouldn't give a shit

It's an easy way for them to get their figures up.

When someone was trying to break in to 'effing twat' me they wouldn't come out.
