Car parked in my assigned spot, what else can I do?

A parking one???

I live in a compound with several blocks of flats and assigned parking, clearly displayed in white painted number corresponding to your flat on each spot. There are however no lines separating the spaces, it relies on common sense Confused to park in a way that allows you to exit with a car parked next to you and vice versa.

I live in a section of 6 blocks, with 3 flats on either side of the road and parking spaces along the front of the buildings in sets of 2 (with hedges between).

In case it matters, I am the only one with a car in my set of 2 spaces, and we have visitor's parking that can accommodate 6 cars.

Since arriving home from a trip abroad 3 days ago, there has been a car parked in my spot. Not only that, but it has been so badly parked with a huge gap between the passenger side and the hedge that another car cannot fit into the neighbour's space.

I left a note wedged under the rear tire of their car as it's been raining nonstop since I arrived, saying that they were parked in my spot and please can park elsewhere. Btw, I was able to park in the visitors just fine, there is always space.

The next morning I left for work to find that they re-parked the car closer to the hedge, but still sat in my spot. I went off to work and did an overnight so only returned tonight.

The car is still in my spot, and once again badly parked so I can't even park next to them if I wanted. I'm at my wits end. How can people be so selfish? I've had to park near the top of the compound and lug my bags back and forth in the rain, but it shouldn't even matter as I should be able to park in my own spot!

I've sent an email off to the property management company but don't have much faith in even receiving a response or if they can even do anything.

What else can I do?

  • I rang the buzzers on the building in front of the space (which is the building next to me) and my own building. Only 4 people answered and none of them know who the car belongs to.
  • I also tried the car doors in the hopes of setting off an alarm and getting the fucker outside Blush but they don't have one.

Any other ideas?

Update: When I left this morning, Pamela up above had moved the car! I'm hoping that's it for now. Still waiting on the response from the management company to see if they offer to do anything as it would be good in the future, especially as sometimes people do park inconsiderately and make it hard/impossible for me to park in my own spot.

Here is a photo of the offending vehicle which I took last night to include in my email to the property manager.

Why have you obscured the plate? Name and shame!

You need to chill the fuck out. There are plenty other spaces available for you to park in and the car will move eventually.

Aye right, putting someone else in the same situation. Very good (not) 🙄

The ignorance of some people beggars belief.

Whilst am fan of the fire option another poster has mentioned it just leads to too many questions. I mean, we all know how easy it is to pop to the local petrol station to get a couple of litres of unleaded for your lawn mower, forget to replace the cap on the can, repeatedly trip on your way back, sloshing said E10 all over the offending car, then in your shock the fag hanging out of your mouth drops to the floor... But for some reason the cops never seem to see these things as the honest accident they are.

So, lets get modern. Give the police a call and tell them the car owner has put some hurty words online about you, or perhaps used the wrong pronouns, or even better, they did both.

Before you've even got off the phone, at least 20 of His Majesty's finest helmets will be on the scene and will rapidly locate the owner. If you get lucky, they might be old school and drag the offender into an alley to give them a little bit of the old 'Sweeney' treatment.

Hopefully you will get the chance to tell the perp not to park in your space while all this is going on. At the very least you'll know who it is for next time.

Brilliant 😁

glad they’ve gone OP

How do you know who moved the car? Did you see her?
So at least you now know who to talk to if they park there again.
Can you get a penguin bollard installed? And a private parking sign.
And speak to the management company, as you will be claiming a refund if it happens again so they need to take measures…

I don't know who moved the car, the 'Pamela' is reference to a PP who was a tad rude in the comments.

I'm still waiting for a reply from the company, tbh I haven't chased with a phone call as seems a bit pointless now that no one's there. The nature of the reply will determine how I move forward, I definitely want to mention my suspicion that spaces are being rented out but I need to fish out the lease, it's been a busy day at work

Not having the parking spaces marked out can't help. We had this in my flats and my neighbour got a tin of white paint, measured out the spaces evenly and painted a small white line on the kerb part only to show where each space was. No one minded and it was a relief to have a small parking guide.

Please dont stick a large, hard to remove sticker over the windscreen as a PP suggested! I'd parked perfectly legally on a public road to visit the nearby Council offices and a local resident pissed off at having people park outside their house stuck one on my car. It took ages to remove and didn't fully come off and was distracting to drive with. I will get my revenge one day.

On going, repeated offender on a private road. Their employer contacted (leases the house for them), politely asked, agreements made.
But…
Repeatedly blocks my access off my drive.
Repeatedly parks between 3 and 6 cars, when the house has space for 1.
Repeatedly parks so that deliveries cannot be made and I and my neighbours have to arrange redelivery.

And scarily, blocks emergency service access, including when my neighbours child urgently needed an ambulance.

Dread to think what would happen if there were ever a fire in one of the 8 houses to which access is blocked .

A sticker would be nothing!

Have you parked in someone else's space then?

TTCbaby2023 · 02/01/2024 15:15

The same thing has happened to me, my spot was being used by office workers regularly as we share the car park with some offices. Every single time I have blocked them in and left my number. They were always very uncomfortable with the confrontation that followed that they never repeated it. I also have 3 cones on the space just to make it clear that the space is needed at all times.

Write another message and put it in abit of plastic and put it under the windscreen wiper maybe they didnt see it try again.

People are absolutely awful when it comes to parking.

Locutus2000 · 02/01/2024 15:55

I have to say I'm surprised it's a little Toyota.

Was expecting a German SUV. Parked across both spaces of course.

Where is the bay labelled as named resident only parking? I'd have thought it would be visible in the neighbouring space

ISewISee · 02/01/2024 18:03

Had something similar recently with a Cheeky effer parking in my allocated parking space (it's numbered with my house and for my own use) and they parked their van in my space and THEN knocked on my door and asked if they could use it, then told me they couldn't move the van until 7am the next morning because it had a tracker on it - then telling me my visitors would have to park elsewhere - MY PARKING SPACE 😂. I asked them to not park in it then if it's got a tracker on it and couldn't move it if it wasn't convenient. They got funny and tried to get my life timetable out of me and tell me they could park there when I wasn't expecting anyone, wouldn't mind don't see any of them unless they want something. Bonkers self entitlement. Had a word and they stopped doing it. Sign written van mind with their employer on it 😆. I don't mind letting people use it if I'm not - but not like that.

Hopefully Pam's learned her lesson OP

Namechange4448830938489 · 02/01/2024 18:15

Lived in a block before and parking was always an issue. eg people parking in others' spaces or not leaving enough room. The managing agent can advise on the lease requirements re renting out a space and if permissible (usually not) and they also have the ability to contact DVL and request a name and address although there is a small cost to this. I ended up buying some plastic cones online and putting them in my space.

Presterjohn71 · 02/01/2024 18:45

We found the thoughtless entitled a hole! Please move your car.

Justus6 · 02/01/2024 19:03

Block it in with a note on you own car of how to contact you when they do tell them not to park there again of you'll have them towed

Ridiculous. You are probably the type of cheeky fucker who does this. OP is paying for that space and is entitled to it.

BIossomtoes · 02/01/2024 19:05

WombatChocolate · 02/01/2024 11:39

If they park there again, the note to leave in a bag is;

’You have already been asked not to park in my private space. I have taken a photo of your vehicle and will be contacting the Police who will tow and impound your car, which will then cost you several hundred pounds to recover, if your vehicle is still here in the morning or is parked here again.’

They’ll laugh. Everyone knows the police don’t give a shit about crime. A civil parking offence stands no chance.

Geekylover · 02/01/2024 19:07

Block in then go on a four week holiday
